Congrats Van. It takes a little effort to not curse, especially for long years. Hey, maybe I'll stop.

Well I salute you Van, for going so long without swearing. I know that's something that I most definitely couldn't do. Like I said before. I'm a potty mouth. I'm from a big city and I live in a bad neighborhood, so cursing doesn't bother me in the least bit, so long as it's said in the right place and time. I don't even care if the Fuck word is mentioned in every other word. However, should someone talk like that in front of my nieces and nephews...then I have a problem.

People hate me for saying this, but I haven't said a swear word in at least 3 years. I can get through life without using profane words, excluding the extremely immature ones that are only 'bad words', those are hilarious. It bothers me inside every time when someone swears, and even when I expect it, like when Samuel Jackson speaks, it doesn't go over with me as being ok. Also, saying God without meaning it is also swearing maybe in the worst way, it's mockery of one's religion. It's amazing that people have no idea of this anymore. In music, swearing always takes away from lyrics, creating horrible unbalance in word strength. An example of this is System Of A Down: Toxicity has by far the least swear words, but is also widely looked at as the best album. Metallica also swore much less in Master of Puppets than in St. Anger. Making personal effort not to swear (half of it is controlling anger) is one of the best things anybody can do, unless you're immersed in corrupt language it's not that hard.

I don't care unless you say a cussword at least 5 times in one freaking sentence. If you know me, you know I cuss quite a bit. Not to the point where it becomes tasteless, but you'll hear "fuck" at least a couple of times in a conversation. It ain't wrong to say it, unless you becomed enamored with it. Then I find it irritating.

Sorry I'm a little late getting here. (that is, this is a bit of a bump. )

Whenever people complain about such language (in most situations), I keep asking myself what happened to 'words will never hurt me'? Does that only apply in certain limited situations? Because if it does, change the wording. I mean, yeah, I can understand not wanting little kids to say certain words, but I'm 17, I'm not a little kid, let me say what the fuck I want to say. I tend to keep it quiet around my mother and grandmother, not so much out of respect as out of not wanting to hear the lectures, but at least my dad doesn't usually care.

So yeah, it doesn't annoy me unless it's abused. Y'know what does annoy me? Word censors in online games. Damn those things piss me off.

World champion speed talker you are Kat. Heh heh. I'd be afraid to hear you pissed off... more because I wouldn't know what you were saying because of the speed of it.

You know what the most annoying thing to hear is? Kindergarteners cursing. I've heard a 5 year old call another one a bitch before, and it shocked me. I mean... they're just starting school and they're using words like "fuck" and "bitch" and all that. What is wrong with their parents?

I grew up with my dad and brother cursing up a storm all my life, but the first time I cussed was either 4th or 5th grade when I accidentally said "shit" after I dropped something at school. My friend heard me and no one else. In 6th grade I lost my temper at someone during an argument and told them to shut the fuck up. Everyone in my class line and the line next to me heard it, but no teachers... everyone was shocked and backed off until I cooled down. Took me until I was 13 to start doing it regularly... now I'm a lovely little foul mouthed girl, but I keep it to a minimum around the elders I encounter unless I know they are cool with it.

I am a potty mouth. Swearing does not phase me in the least bit. Though there is a time and a place for it, like Pockets said. I don't curse in front of adults. Well, sorta. I'll say it if it's part of a joke or something, but even then it's a bit limited. I only say it when I KNOW the adult don't mind and sees it as only part of the joke. And I'm anti-cursing in front of little kids, though I will admit that I cursed a bit in front of my nephew one time. But that was to prove a point. (He basically was trying to tell me that he's mature enough to do whatever he wants to now, I swore at him, it bothered him and that made him realize that he wasn't ready to handle everything)

Otherwise...take when I play hockey for instance, I cuss up a storm...video games? Feh...With friends? Depends on the place and time. When I'm pissed off? Heh...you won't hear anything else...then again, I talk so fast most of the time, you don't hear anything anyways.

I'm numb to the whole fucking thing and if and when I ever do it I am totally unaware that I'm doing it...

In general I tend to not curse, and I'll wind up saying "shoot" as a loud exclamation instead of shit or fuck or things of the like... but I say bitch and asshole quite a bit...

But it's never once bothered me to hear somebody say a harmful or obscene word... so whatever...

Mostly because I expect people to act like me, I find it odd when people get offended by anything.

I curse. I don't care. I don't say it around the adults, sheerly out of respect. However, this is a typical sentence between me and my friends:
"So, what the fuck's going on between you and that fuckin' bitch that's been loooking at you"
"Well, I'll probably fuck her; shit, she's hot enough"
"Dude, she's fuckin' crawling with STDs and shit; stay the fuck away from that little cunt"
"Yeah; probably. God, I feel so fucking burnt out, it's not even funny. Fuck, man."

Ive been veering away from "Shit" and "Fuck"...mainly because when I play games around my mother, she laughes when I get mad and growl "Damn you stupid monkey"....

Cussing is fine, as long as one takes it in moderation and takes into consideration
where they are and how appropriate the language would or would not be. Like
the kids at the internet cafe having a Counter Strike LAN party saying they're
gonna fuck up their friends at the top of their voices.

There is a time and place for everything and a place for everything in its time.

????????? Okay I'm not sure that made total sense but the point is there is a time
and situation where cussing is not appropriate, there are other times when it's
just casual with your buddies doesn't mean a lot, and then there are times when
it's said in anger or out of fear or frustration or pain.

Everything has a time and a place and as long as people keep it to that and
doesn't go overboard with things I say it's all cool.

True, big mouthed people are annoying, but I was conceringing more when little kids are that way. I've seen some that gave off that vibe of "we rock, fuck yeah". 11 year olds in the uniform of a Gangsta. Damn, are there alot gangstas around here.

I don't really care that they are super intop rap or whatever, but the way they act is just...annoying. Not too mention how silly most look.

Rap is popular in Canada? I'm assuming so ... since rap seems to generate "gangsta's".

When the cursing is over the microphone, then it becomes annoying, text, I don't care.

Politician its not grade 6-11 people who swear annoyingly, its anyone with a big mouth, no manners, and doesn't know when to shut the hell up.

You mean those people who sit in front of the computer screen screaming "F**K YOU MOTHER F**KER, IM GONNA PWN YOUR C**TLESS MOTHER!!!"

yeah...I hate those types as well...ESPECIALLY when theyre...

1: on the microphone and you hear them while playing CS or something...thats always annoying...

2: they are in public...theres a place down here where people play LAN games...alot of little kids yell at each other doing that retarded crap...

or 3: THose types like you mentioned while sitting in front of theyre own room cussing non-stop...

I dont cuss as much as I used to, its loosing its meaning...

I don't mind cussing, but like some have said, little kids doing it is annoying (although...I'm one Grade higher than the kid Xeo used in his example ). But I've heard kids that are from 6-11 do it, and it's just stupid. You can tell they're just saying the word for the sake of saying it. Like my (kinda sorta annoying) step-sister. I was babysitting my kid brother, and he was doing usual silly baby stuff and she'd go "what the hell?" when he did something ... whatever.

'course, I don't take 'hell' as much of a swear word, it's a location. () But she was saying it when no adults were around and the tone when she said 'hell' was just...out of place and seperate from the rest. Obviously said...for the sake of bieng said.

I hardly ever curse in person, only if I'm cracking a joke or telling a story, or just extremely pissed off (then I'll sound like a pirate), but yeah I hardly cuss most times.

But, working a Jiffy Lube, I've gotten pretty used to it. It honestly doesn't bother me when I'm talking and listening to people I know, but I do think it would be offensive as a customer to hear some words (on accident probably, which happens because some of our employee's are extreme loud mouths).

So yeah, if you're just casually hanging out with friends or something, I don't think it's a big deal, but if you're out in public, trying to be polite, etc, it can just ruin the whole situation in my opinion.

Edit: @Elara - Nice point. I absolutely cannot stand kids (usually in Junior High) who'll cuss ... just for the heck of it, for no reason. They probably think they're being tough, or cool or whatever, but it's just retarded (my friend has a brother in 8th grade who always does this. He'll come down when we're playing an RPG, or watching anime, and since he thinks that stuff is goofy being the tough skater punk that he is, he'll say stuff like "Oh my god David what is this stupid shit? What the fuck that's stupid. Turn that shit off".

It really annoys me.

I'm sorta used to people that talk like that (my brother and dad have done that my whole life). It just gets to the point where you don't really notice it anymore.

In the case of kids doing it, yeah it's really annoying and I just ridicule them.

I am going to have to strongly agree with you. Cussing has little point other than to degrade other peoples opinion of you. If you're mad, control yourself or use a more minor word. If you want to insult, don't use cursewords, espicially if they don't apply.

The fuck you talkin' 'bout?

OK, OK. I personally curse, swear, cuss, use profanities, say the f-word, whatever you want to call it often in casual conversation, but I've reached a point where listening to kids swear is annoying.

I'm sorry.. you're 11. Just because your parents aren't around doesn't make you mature when you say "fuck" or what have you. It's like alcohol. It's something that older people get to do freely, that younger people can't therefore, when it's available and no one's around to care, people go nuts on it.

Cussing in moderation is fine by me, but when the word has completely been killed of any and all meaning, it's not even useful any more and just depletes the quality of the language.
