At about -222 degrees Celsius, I don't think Pluto is not very livable. Personally, I don't care what it's classified as, seeing as it's too far away to be of any great import. More or less, only the people trying to get NASA funding to explore Pluto should care, seeing as it's not classified as a planet anymore. Pluto is still about the same as before anyone classified it. If they made Pluto a planet, then there would have to be more planets, or some odd(er?) definition of a planet. |

Poor Pluto  I don't see why they couldn't just leave Pluto classed as a planet, though it is interesting to know that we now have more planets, they just need to find one that is liveable, one we can go and inhabit. |

thanks DSM for not reading, or comprehending the article. and thanks venomouslobster for not adding anything. but to answer the first two, pluto is now not considered a planet soley because its rotation interupts that of neptune's. and also, only about what? less than 10% of those who attended the convention actually voted. so it's safe to say that this wont last too long. |

Pluto is a planet. It orbits the sun. It has moons. It has all the characteristics of a planet, so why in the hell did they decide it wasn't? According to the definition, it seems as though it would be considered a planet, but they're deciding to go into more detail and want to consider it a dwarf planet. These scientists are odd. |

Pluto must beb classified as a planet on the basis that it is a stellar body too large to be a comet or metor that is locked into orbit around the sun. While it's orbit may be more like that of a comet, it could be explained by a stellar collision with another body, possibly the infamous "Planet X" that we are always hearing about, yet has never (unless rather recently) been found. That and the fact that we have called it a planet for how many fucking years? |

That makes some more sense, yes.. still, I'm not sure I see why they couldn't just make an exception for Pluto since we've all gotten used to there being nine planets, but I suppose they were focused more on accuracy than anything else...
meh, maybe it'll make sense when I have more than three hours of sleep. I'll just stay out until then.  |

oh, well, did you even read anything about this?
it was pretty much because of that UB13 or w/e (XENA). this guy a year or so ago found an object almost twice the size of pluto. it caused an uproar when XENA wasnt classified as a planet, but pluto was. so they made a convention or whatever to discuss more on the matter. there were a couple changes to the definition. one which would have made XENA a planet, would've included hundreds of others as a planet by definition. so to make things fair, the current definition would exclude everyone, and also killed pluto. anyways, that's just what i understand from the top of my head. |

This is really one of those "why the fuck does it matter?" cases to me. Pluto still orbits the sun and is still orbited by Charon (IIRC). It's still a frozen chunk of rock. What's changed? Just a few words and nothing more.
I dunno, maybe I'm missing something, but it seems like there's so many more useful things they could be doing... |

So they did decide to demote Pluto. Wow. I heard they were thinking about it and calling all the other so-called planets that they found "Plutons."
Well, first they rehaul the food pyramid and now there are more planets, though less are considered such. Man... |

Gah, you beat me to makeing this thread, I only just read it on CNN.
Anyway, I have never been in favor of Pluto being a planet, it is merely a large rock off of an asteroid cluster near our system. It's too small, too little gravity, and is now a dwarf planet. |
