Don't know if everyone knows about this, but this is becoming a reality:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Writers_Guild_of_America_strike

In depth overview of the current status on some shows:
http://uk.tv.ign.com/articles/832/832730p1.html

Late Night Shows and the Colbert Report are screwed immedietaly. John Stewart is apparently paying the writers himself for the next two weeks, but that's it.

It just fucking sucks. Heroes, Lost, The Office, etc. Could be ruined.

Heroes will be fine.

Don't worry.

They already wrote an alternate ending to the season which will end it in 4 or 5 episodes from now. So instead of going on hiatus, the season will just end. The second season was being written in 3 arcs anyway, as opposed to one big one, this season finale will just be tying up this story that was already ending as it is.

The writers' strike did however force the cancellation of Heroes: Origins which would have run during the hiatus, but oh well.

Heroes is doing better than most of the shows out there.

I thoroughly support the writers guild in this strike. It's simply not fair that producers and networks are making all the post-production profits off of something that these people created. Writers really should get their fair share.

Many celebs are in full support of the writers as well, including Tim Kring, Heroes' creator. Rumor had it that NBC fired him for supporting his writers, but that's simply just sensationalized gossip.

I do support the writers in this, but this is really irritating me.

Lost is going to be doing an eight episode season, Heroes will only air a third of its season, 24 isn't airing at all...Jericho is really the only TV show that's not effected by this, and only because they were ALREADY going to do only half a season.

And I haven't even gotten to what's happening with all the movies...

And Rogue, Heroes: Origins is actually still probably going to air, just not until next season. Supposedly then about half of the scripts were written for it, though none of them have been turned in.

Yeah, I really was somewhat expecting them to just move it to next season, especially since they were getting people to guest-write it, like Kevin Smith.

They had approached Quentin Tarantino to write an episode, but then he threw a fit because he didn't know what Heroes was. Seriously, he's been quoted as shouting, "What the fuck is 'Heroes'?" which has caused him a lot of ridicule in Hollywood with people joking about him being just as clueless about pop culture as he is film-making (I do happen to like his movies, thank you very much, but yeah, what the hell?).

Yeah I like his movies, but he is such a prick.

I'm still annoyed with how people give him credit for foreign films that he didn't have any hand in making (Hero, Iron Monkey, Hostel). His name appears on them because he applied his name to them in order for them to make it in this country.

The guy still includes an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live as something he's directed, for crying out loud.

Good thing I don't watch much TV.

Shame to hear about the Colbert Report and The Daily Show, but I can easily manage.

The WGA supporters are posting all over the web to boycott reality shows, especially since that's what the networks are airing and producing during the strike.

I was boycotting them before it was trendy.

Someone over at the 9th Wonders forums created a way to illustrate that we, the fans, stand by the writers in this strike: the 1000 cranes for Heroes project.

http://boards.9thwonders.com/index.php?showtopic=61061&st=0

Fold a few cranes, send them to the address shown at the link above. It's a simple statement, but it shows our support.

Thank god Reality TV Shows like Kitchen Nightmares or American
Idol were unaffected.

Sometimes I love watching them, except America's most Top Model.

Reality TV doesn't have enough room to sky rocket, it's already too popular.

Oh how much I despise it!

It's a good job I've got many British TV shows to hold me over until Eureka is no longer affected and the third series can come out!

Then again, if the writers at BBC went on strike, so would everybody paying TV Licenses (Which is everyone in Britain who owns a TV), and the BBC would just collapse from lack of funding. They get there money from TV licenses, which is why they don't have any adverts. ^^ A half hour show actually lasts half an hour! :O

But yeah, DAMN IT! WHY DOES EUREKA HAVE TO BE AFFECTED!?!

I've so far folded 110 paper cranes to send in to the producers' guild along with the everyone else's.

Thus far I'm seeing a lot of mixed reactions. When I'd posted the link about the 1000 Cranes for Heroes project on another board, not only did I get people belittling the project, but also posters, without any information posted to back their claims, raving about the writers needing to be kicked in the balls for being so greedy.

Riiiiiight.

If you are a real fan of a show, you'd feel that those who created something you love should receive a more fair share of the profits.

It's day 18.. I think. 17 or 18.

Anyway, people are putting out more videos like this:

So yeah, Heroes is ending in a couple episodes, as will several other shows.

Looks like things like Deal or No Deal are coming back. Oh well. I don't watch much television these days anyway. More time for reading, I guess.
