I know this is a difficult question to answer but break it down into subtopics like genres. And it isn't against the rules to have more than one favorite band lol.
Me personally i really like a semi-local band called "Robots & Racecars" also i enjoy "Forever the Sickest Kids" and "Four Year Strong"

Weezer. The Killers. Phantom Planet.

In that order. If you haven't heard of phantom planet, give them a listen, people. They're pretty sweet.

A few years back, Marilyn Manson would have topped my list... but the last two albums cost him this coveted top spot. Emo is not suited for him.

I will have to say that my favorite bands at the moment are Nightwish, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody of Fire, Scorpions, Disturbed, old Manson, ELO, and Apocalyptica.

My taste in music is rather obvious I would say.

Yeah, can't beat good old classical.

I don't mind Disturbed, or old Manson (his new stuff does suck), but I don't know those other bands. I've always been more of an alternative guy. I listen to some heavier stuff, like Avenged Sevenfold and Killswitch, but only rarely.

Scorpions = Rock You Like A Hurricane
ELO = Evil Woman, Roll Over Beethoven and countless others

The rest of them are metal bands from Europe... Finland, Germany and Italy in order. Apocalyptica I am unsure of origin wise, but you've heard them on the radio ("I Don't Care" with vocals by the lead singer of Three Days Grace). Check them all out on youtube, they are awesome.

I used to like Avenged Sevenfold and Killswitch, but I've lost the taste for screamy metal. Gives me migraines.

One of my friends loves ELO. I've never really listened to a lot of their stuff, but I've heard they're good. I can't pick a favorite band so I'm just going to list off the stuff on my Ipod. The Beatles and solo careers, Beck, Bob Marley, David Bowie, Daft Punk, Bob Dylan, The Killers, MGMT, Pink Floyd, The Who, and Wolfmother. I know I'm forgetting a couple, but can't think of them right now. I really need to start listening to more bands.

Apocalyptica pretty much formed over a love of playing Metallica covers.

Speaking of which, Metallica has found their way onto my list of favorite bands. There's something remarkably comforting about James Hetfield's voice these days. And I don't care what anyone says, he's still damn hot.

I've seen them four times in concert, once with perhaps my top favorite band opening for them: Flogging Molly. Seen them five times. I've left every concert tired and sweaty from jumping around a lot, shouting lyrics along to the songs.

I've got a few more favorites, but yeah, the thread asked for one.

Well I meant more of where they come from, but yeah Metallica covers ftw.

I also really like Metallica, they are in my extensive list of second favorites.

So I recently just discovered a new local band. They are called Valencia, and they are awesome. Probably not my favorite, but they're up there.

Plus, their drummer is epic.

Manowar, Children of Bodom, Blind Guardian, Type O Negative, Malice Mizer, Sonata Arctica and The 69 Eyes are really up there on my list. I'm pretty open to anything else that sounds awesome, though.

Oh. Well, they're Finnish.

I got to see them at the Roxy a few years ago with Marty and Becky. Awesome performance, lots of energy. I was just bummed they didn't play "The Path."

So much metal.

I have to say that I was very into Metallica and even listened to my family friend's metallica cover band acillatem (yeah they were original)
But i've become almost exclusively pop punk recently.

I could not help but laugh at that.

Yeah, I'm not a huge metal fan, either, but some is good. Definitely not on my favorites list, though. No offense to you avid listeners

And there he saw hope! Haha now I enjoy the occasional psych up metal song but four year strong and a day to remember can get intense especially the latter

Thank you Valhalla, that made me laugh so hard!

Scorpions and ELO aren't metal, just rock.

I like non-metal bands as well, but they are not my favorites.

Yeah, Flogging Molly's not metal either. They've been labeled Celtic rock or even Irish punk. Most of my favorite bands are different genres -- folk, cabaret, ska, metal, blues, different kinds of punk, bluegrass, big band, etc. My iPod would drive anyone crazy who found it.

Yeah, I enjoy Flogging Molly. I love the Irish

I've been listening to music without words when I write. i find it helps (at times), and I'm not influenced by the words because there aren't any. I just get the mood of the music.

I still need silence when I write, so i mainly play it when I already have the whole idea figured out in my head.

If I had to choose a favorite genre, it would be alternative or punk. I couldn't stand country before, but I've heard some good songs, lately. I just couldn't stand it before. At all.
