| So my entire life has been living in the shadows of those who I have grown to admire. Now originally this wasn't the worst thing ever but since then becoming my own person is getting difficult. I hate to be disliked so I usually just give up on arguements that will lead to anger, and i'm a pacifist to the point where i don't step on goomba's while playing mario. I say ow when other people get hurt all the time. But recently I've been stepping out of the shadows but it's a difficult process. I have also noted that my life is becoming a wrenching hole of boring. Help? | |||

| Ah, the joys of growing up. First off, I want to say good job on stepping out of the shadows and becoming your own person! It can be a bit scary but in the end it feels so good to be an individual. Secondly, while I am also not a fan of confrontation, there is a point where you just have to argue to defend what you believe... like your arguments with your family mentioned in the big bang thread. Honestly what helped me was posting on boards like these and doing lots of reading. Once you develope opinions you tend to defend them, and the debates on boards ease that development because you can't hear the yelling of the other person. Soon you find the debates happening in real life and you are doing fine.
As for the boring thing... well, could you explain a bit more as to why it is happening? Just the summer blahs, did you just have a big change (I know Phoenix just graduated, what about you?). Stuff like that leads to boredom easily. It could also be that what was fine for vince the shadow is not for vince the person. If that is the case I recomend finding a new hobby or something that fits the new you. My thing was writing and gaming, in addition to academics, but maybe yours is art or sports or something else. Try new things and see if anything calls to you. |

| Okay well I have recently graduated, in fact i would have been in Phoenix's graduating class but i moved my senior year so i didn't get to graduate with any of my older friends, granted i still did but it was kind of lacking. I've been trying extremely hard to write anything recently the closest is what i have in the muse's sancutary, even that isn't that good. also i have a stack of home grown comics that i want to finish but its irksome. | |||

But seriously. It's great that you are trying to become your own person. And as Elara said, you need to step up and say things to people. Hiding your true emotions gains you nothing. Speak your mind, Vince. I know you hold back on conversations when we talk. I understand you dislike confrontation, and so do I. However, I know how to confront without being, well, an asshole. You need to say exactly how you feel, and it is possible to do it in a polite manner. The PM I sent to you, for example. Sure, you could have taken it angrily. For all I know, you did. But I said it as politely as I could. As for the writing. I know you love to write, and sometimes you have great ideas. Stick to them. You've had somethings in the past that you never wrote because you were too scared of the outcome. Do it. Rewriting is always an option, and it may open ideas to new stories for you. Well i have been writing a lot more, not really finishing but i'm on my way thank you guys it's just nice to have some backup |
