Terraria. Many tout it as a 2d Minecraft ripoff and yes, it pretty much is for the first few hours. You'll spend a while mindlessly picking away at the walls with a crappy pickaxe, barely getting enough materials to make a sturdy house. You start off small and you die a lot, but eventually you upgrade your gear a little bit...

...and then this huge asshole shows up, tearing through your home for one purpose - to completely wreck your fucking day!

This is when the game starts to really get interesting. By about this point (if you manage to win the fight), you'll have enough ore to make one or maybe even two demonite weapons/armor! You go from looking like a generic 16-bit sprite to a full-on badass! The fun doesn't stop there, however!

If you're like me and exude manliness from every pore, the Eye of Cthulhu was a complete pushover. You're looking for a bigger fight! Well, you've no doubt come across cursed ground along your travels. Well, in this ground lay these glowing orbs that drop various useful items, but if you break three of them...

This huge terrifying fucker shows up! The guy in the video was more well prepared for this fight, using the worm bait instead of stumbling upon the boss by accident, in a near inescapable pit instead the flat surface that he fought it on.

This is the beginning of the REAL game. No longer is it Minecraft, it begins to feel more like Castlevania! There are a bunch of craftable items already, and the developers are adding new stuff every couple of weeks!

Only $10 on Steam and I'm playing it as much as Minecraft. The best part? It's only a few megabytes in size. There's also multiplayer with PvP support and the last patch made the servers rather stable!

If you can stomach a rather slow and boring start, the game becomes pretty damned awesome. After a few more updates, I'm sure they'll add enough content (hopefully a few more bosses) to keep myself and every other Terraria player entertained for months to come! With that, I leave you with the official trailer.

This looks better than Minecraft. Yeah... I went there.

The guys initial reaction in the second video is priceless.

That was basically my reaction too, except I was trapped down in a dark, cramped chasm and I lasted probably 30 seconds! The second time I took that thing on, however, went much smoother.

Yeah the first two hours i played I was just messing around and I didnt know you can build your own houses for NPC's to move in. Now that I am a little more experienced I'm gonna make a new file and start from scratch.

Looking at wikis for tips and so far this game is pretty dope.

Ok, this game is seriously addicting. And difficult.

I mean you can spend hours on this game and get nowhere in terms of annoying mobs that come out at night and completely dominate you. Or you could wander too far off and just get slaughtered by some of the harder areas of the game. Like the Jungle area or maybe even the dungeon (Both places offer a high chest rate. But we'll get to that here in a minute)

I've taken the liberty and there is a very popular and huge thread on SA about this game (Even the creator posts there from time to time) and most of the fans in the thread there has some amazing applications that can help you on your journey.

Thread here.

But here is a helpful Tool you can use . It's basically a map viewer and it turns it into a simple to see image file and also shows locations of chests and whatnot. VERY helpful program. Some might call this cheating due to the exploration of the game but hey, if you need to find those damn hearts you gotta find them. Heh.

Also don't everyone jump out all at once on Multiplayer. I would love to play with you guys.

Yeah dont mind me I'm discovering just about everything and i'm in my "OHHH I WANT THAT" phase of the game.

At least I got my hands on a flaming boomerang to fight zombies at night. Ya jerks!

I'm actually going to wait another patch or two before I jump back into this one, mostly so I don't get bored too quickly. I still love playing it, I just don't wanna get burned out.

I beat the Eye of Cthulhu and I am currently beefing up for the fight against the Eater of Worlds.

Man, that is helpful. The map viewer and Terraria Wiki have helped me out so much.

Well, I managed to get the Dark Lance (as of the moment, strongest spear in the game) and the Demon Scythe spell book.

I think it's due time to put the game down since I now have -everything- there is in this update.

Sure, you could do that.

Or you could check out Terraria Online's Maps subforum and look into some of the adventure and challenge maps.

Keep in mind a fair number of them have rules stating you can only use items found on that map.

Most of them are too hard for me, but I have finished Legend of Gaia and Mage's Quest.

Well, I just whored that site out, and slaughtered most of those maps. Only one I stopped on was Tower of Cthulu, since it really seemed poorly put together.

Then again, maybe it's just me, but having to jump pixle perfect jumps over -lava- while getting attacked by a swarm of Soul Eaters just doesn't.... sit right.

So has anyone managed to get the Super Metroid map, or has ALL the downloads been removed? I just can't seem to find one.
