Welcome to my personal little review of this game. I went out and bought this game yesterday, and thought I would share, just incase any of you thought about picking this 'game' up.
Remember, this entire review is based on my personal opinion. Every gamer is different and have different experiences. Don't post in here if it's just to nuke me for my opinion, however, user input is greatly appreciated to apply a wider view range to fellow gamers who are interested in said game.

Scoring scale:
A simple 1-10 scale
1 (would rather play barbie's dream house adventure)
5 (completely average)
10 (The heavens broke open and handed this shit to you, it's that awesome)

anything in between can be based on your imagination, aha.

GRAPHICS
Lets get down to the nitty gritty of this game. This was one of two giant selling points of this game, and quite frankly, I'm impressed. I'm a big hater of Cell Shading, but my god, they managed to crank this up to amazing results.
The graphics used in this game have blown all the others out of the water, and make watching the anime almost unbearable.
Score: 9.0

SOUND
If your looking for amazing music, then go back to the anime. This game hasn't done much different then anything else. The biggest change I've noticed, from game to game, was that the intro uses the old school Japanese song.
Don't get me wrong, that's fine and all, but I'd have liked to have seen some remixed stuff.
That's not what drove me insane though, it was the horrible English lip syncing involved. It's like they didn't even try anymore. More times then I could count in fights, or cut scenes, word's would fly out of their closed mouths, or just standing there like idiots with their jaw flapping, or hanging, when they were meant to talk/scream, with no audio involved.
Score: 4.0

GAME PLAY
This is where this game truly hurts.
This game's idea was to take the anime, and make it playable. Well, they kind have succeeded. You see, instead of taking Tenkaichi 3's system, where you have full active use of the fight-from fighting, to blocking, to counters, to spam moves-to full on, button timing, mini-games.

And the mini-games are even more horrid then that. You no longer can truly "Dodge" attacks. You can block, which causes your character to move into a matrix dodging bullet maneuver, then if you get a hit in, you must press the button two or three times to activate a cut-scene. During this cut-scene, you must press square or triangle. If you press a different button then your enemy, you go into an automatic cut-scene of punches, only to input the occasional Square/Triangle+direction to launch the enemy, for more auto moves.
If you fail that original press, the enemy hits you hard.

Forget about dashing toward the enemy. Doing this causes you to do a chase/advance auto cut-scene, where you must press left or right. If you get the opposite direction then your enemy, you hit them and move to Melee/blast range.

While on that note, the fights are broken up into two stages: Melee and Blast. When in melee, you are stuck in an invisible ring around your enemy, and cannot leave the proximity unless you double-tap X to go into your auto cut-scene to have a 50/50 button press chance to get away.

When in blast range, your square melee now becomes blast shots. From here, if your blasts connect, you -teleport to your enemey- to continue the old ass auto cut-scene fight you were trying to avoid.

Now, the super attacks.

You ask, what is so wrong with the super attacks? Well... aha.

When you activate it by flicking the right stick up/down, you go into an auto cut-scene. You don't get to manually dodge, no (which makes me wonder why they bothered giving you the ability to sidestep at all, let allow "boost" sidestep) you get to - if you have energy press circle for block, square for evade (which becomes a rytheme mini-game, failure means getting tagged) or triangle for intervening (which becomes 'who can press triangle faster' to win moment).

But wait, they promised destructible environments!

For the cut-scene only. All the destruction is scripted to land in the same spot, and only a quarter of the real damage stays active -in the background-. They kinda lacked at all in that category.

Just incase I forget, the cut-scene scripted boss battles weren't much better. Fighting Giant Ape Vegeta was painful in general, clumsy combo punches to barely hurt him, which causes the right of the fight to become a 5 minute long button pressing sequence. Riiiight.
Score: 2.5

BONUS CONTENT
I decided to put there here since I put enough stuff in game-play.

The bonus content is the stuff you unlock, right? This also involves Character Creation/Hero Mode.

So far, there isn't much to unlock. You get dragohballs so you can wish for a piece of costume for a cannon character, or a battle map.

That's about it for Story unlocks.

Hero Mode unlockables are about the same in content. You start off with a Goku lookalike (with a blue undershirt) Goku lookalike (without an undershirt) and a Brolly look alike.

You start off with changing your hair from Goku, to sholderlength Vegeta, to Bald.
Then you change from Goku w/sleeve, Goku w/o sleeve, and Brolly.
Then you get 4 different sections you can custom color. (At least the color selection is nice)
Then you get to add a logo symbol and/or a scouter.

And no, you can't make a female.

And yes, there ARE unlockables that you can get in Hero Mode, but their so few and far between, your just basically recoloring cannon characters.

Score: 3.0

Total score: 4.62

So far, not too terribly please with my $60 non-refundable gamestop purchase, but I'll push on to finish said game to see if there is anything really redeemable.
If not, then it's back to Tenkaichi 3, while I cry myself to sleep that DBZ online wont leave Japan/Korea.

Haha, a lot of this stuff I've heard from my friends... the game sounds terribly repetitive and kind of a step backwards from the previous games, despite packing a lot of content and some new things.

But man they need to cool it on the DBZ games. Also I know DB wasn't very popular here in the States, but I'd love to see a fighting game that actually covers the DB story as well. That would be great...

I didn't care for Tenkaichi 2 and stopped there, but from what you're saying 3 is worth checking out sometime. The first game was really good, but since then it's just been like Dynasty Warriors to me, play one and you've played them all, while other companies keep releasing 50 other crap DBZ games on the side.

So far as I've seen, Ultimate Tenkaichi is the -worst- in the series. It just has the best graphics, and a buttload of outfits to pick from in your custom hero mode.

Tenkaichi 3 was the best, in terms of controls, over 200 characters, and flexability on your character play style.

Indeed, that or blowing up a mountain/castle in the actual series, heh. So I take it Roshi isn't in any of the newer games still or something?
