I know we're all supposed to be going, "WE DON'T TALK ABOUT 2016!!" but that means there's a lot to discuss. I'm trying to focus on the positive.

Feel free to copy this and answer the questions yourself.

What have you done in 2016 that you have never done before?
- Wore an engagement ring, got fitted for and wore real faire boots, got a manicure/pedicure, saw Gogol Bordello perform, rented a car in my name, drove through a redwood tree, took a bath in a clawfoot tub, got a membership for the Huntington, started wedding plans, assisted an off-duty cop with an accident (I was the first person to run up to the woman), worked at another center for a month, saw "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" with an orchestra playing the soundtrack live, hung out with wolves, climbed the tower of the Museum of Man, petted horned sharks, set up a tea party in Griffith Park with candelabras, had a brief light saber fencing lesson on the dancefloor of a wedding, ate a macaroon penis, visited lots of new places.

Did you keep your new years resolution from this year, and will you make one for next year?
- Pretty much. Going to continue with the trying/learning at least one new thing a day.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
- None yet, but I know so many pregnant women expecting early next year.

Did anyone close to you die?
- Zach, one of the guys from ConOps. My dad's sister, Jodi, also passed away. She'd long been suffering from cystic fibrosis, but she'd managed to long outlive the diagnosis, dying in her mid-50s when they said she'd probably never see 25.

Did anyone close to you get married?
- I went to Pat's wedding.

Did anyone close to you get divorced?
- Elara, and Sara's trying to. She's got a restraining order out for her husband.

Where did you travel to in 2016?
- Not to the extent of last year. We went to Northern California a few times and Arizona twice.

What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016?
- "I'm actually amazed I lived up to last year's hope of traveling more. 2015 was a very full year. Hm, perhaps 2016 could bring less stress and more peace of mind, but then where would the fun be?"

That's what I wrote last year, apparently. I feel like 2016 was FAR MORE stressing and had much, much less peace of mind. Shit, man. 2017 could use a lot more just learning to let shit go and relax.

What dates from 2016 will you have etched in your memory, and why?
- The year was such a blur. For obvious reasons, the night of Nov. 8 will stick in there, whether I like it or not, just like 9/11.

Anyway, for me personally, I'd say the day Bran and I got to be in the pit for Metallica earlier this week. It was pretty friggin' awesome.

Another one would be the day we set up a formal tea party in the Griffith Park Old Zoo area and watched a performance of "The Tempest." Not a major event, I know, but it was fun and I went all out for it.

A bit bigger, though, would probably have been my last day at my old center (before I ended up coming back a little more than a month later.) It was Hawaii Day at work, so I brought in some of my tiki mugs and filled them with plumeria from the yard and brought silk leis for the clients and some co-workers, and wore my Hawaiian shirts. My cooking club made spam musubi, and then I took the laundry club out. Several clients were upset I was leaving, one in particular who actually can't walk very well, kept insisting he was going to go walk with me to the laundromat, but my boss kept having to argue with him. He eventually looked to me and said, "I don't want to leave you like this," and was taken outside to get his bike and leave the center for the day. At the laundromat we danced to "Lilo and Stitch" music and then on our way back we witnessed a bad car accident. I ran up to the elderly woman who'd hit everyone, her face was bleeding and I asked her if she was OK. She had a laceration that completely flayed open her right arm. An off-duty officer ran up as I went to get some of the clean towels that we had JUST laundered (I instructed my aide to get the clients back to the center) and he needed gloves, which I HAD (I always have latex gloves while on the job because we never know when we'll need them.) I assisted where I could and when an ambulance just happened to wander over, I started walking back to the center and my boss met me halfway. That afternoon I was dropping clients off at their homes and when I got back most of everyone had already left, but a co-worker bought me a cake. At night I was do depressed and angry with myself for leaving, I insisted Bran and I go out and drink. It's the first time I ever really drank out of complete sadness. I had way too much rum and then walked around Downtown Disney, laughing like a jackass at everything.

There are other days, but most of them line up with questions that are sure to come.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
- Got my first credit card and currently have a FICO score of 786. Getting a credit card has been super-helpful. Actually I'm living off mine right now 'til I get paid next week. Sucks having much of my paycheck be owed to Wells Fargo, but it's been nice being able to continue to live and not just doing things when there's money in the bank.

What was your biggest failure?
- Oh boy, let's see. Not securing another job outside of this center, and the one that I do go for ends up being TERRIBLE, and realizing I'm succumbing to the work drama cultivated by the cliques trying to get different people fired. It's ridiculous. But again, this is all going back to how I need to learn to let shit go, respect those who have the balls to tell you that you're doing something wrong and NOT just see you fucking up and then telling the boss on you, and stop getting completely fucking stressed. Well, at least I haven't started any childish internet fights with people.

Did you suffer injury or illness?
- I got sick a few times; ended up in urgent care once with an IV in my hand. Not sure what's going on with me, but at least I've got health insurance. I've been having foot and ankle problems for most of the past year.

What was the best thing you bought?
- My Huntington membership is at the top. Next would be my custom-made boots, which I got fitted for at Arizona's faire. After that would be the merlot-colored faux leather jacket I got which has received a lot of compliments.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
- Sara's. She's finally leaving her husband whose been (literally) pissing away their money on drinking and not contributing to taking care of their kids.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
- Rather than keep the much more personal answer I had here I'm going to deflect to "the American people." This election was brutal and A LOT of people's behavior since Nov. 8 has been downright savage, especially regarding all the assaults on persons of color that seem to be carried out by hillbillies emboldened by the way things are going.

Wait. Just heard from Sara. It appears the judge who's handled her husband's restraining order case is a complete piece of shit and sided with her dirtbag louse of a husband. Fuck that guy.

Where did most of your money go?
- Other than food, gas, and clothes, the biggest splurges would be the trips we've taken to Northern California. The most expensive was the most recent trip for Pat's wedding. I spent over $100 on lunch at the oldest restaurant in San Francisco and then dropped like $60 at a tiki bar. THAT'S IT! Yeah, tiki mugs. I've been amassing quite a collection this year. I mean, my faire boots cost $600-something, but the tiki mugs are pretty much just for decoration, in the end. I've also been crazy addicted to the stationery store that's in the Japanese market between my work and Mom's. I've also been throwing money around for friends who need it, occasionally, sort of a penance for all the money they've blown on me over the years.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
- Getting to see "Raiders of the Lost Ark" with a live orchestra playing the soundtrack, seeing Gogol Bordello open for Flogging Molly, the trips we've gone on, the new season of "Game of Thrones," getting my new boots in the mail, going out for high tea, getting to see friends who don't live nearby, getting to be a model for the Hapa Project.

What song will always remind you of 2016?
- Eh, probably the songs from "Hamilton" since it was so over-hyped this year (rightfully so, for the most part) and I watched this special on it. There's so friggin' many memes with people parodying the songs now.

Compared to this time last year, you are:
a) Happier or Sadder?
- Compared with LAST year, sadder. But last year was one of the best years of my life. I'm not sad, but I'm definitely more frustrated.
b) Thinner or Fatter?
- Not entirely sure. About the same?
c) Richer or Poorer?
- Poorer.

What do you wish you would have done more of?
- I've tended to write, "Make new friends." It's true that I still wish I could better connect with people, but I put myself out there more and did make a few new ones. This year's answer is: "Let things go."

What do you wish you would have done less of?
- "Same answer as before: 'Worried less.' Yep."

What I wrote last year. It still applies. In fact, I originally wrote that I needed to worry less in answer to the last question, but read this one and changed that shit above.

How did you spend New Year's Eve? (December 31, 2015)
- Went to a party at Brandon's band's bassplayer's house. Right after midnight he announced our engagement to everyone.

How did you spend New Year's Day? (January 1)
- Hiked Temescal Canyon. A British couple asked if we wanted a picture from this bridge and took one of us.

How did you spend Valentine's Day? (February 14)
- Worked Gallifrey. Watched Patricia Quinn demand a dalek sing "Happy Birthday" to her. It was surreal.

How did you spend St. Patrick's Day? (March 17)
- We went to the FIDM movie exhibit and then hung out in a Japanese garden tea house. At night we saw Gogol Bordello and Flogging Molly perform.

How did you spend Easter? (March 27)
- Attended Wondercon.

How did you spend Cinco de Mayo? (May 5)
- Slept most of the day and watched the Al Pacino version of "Merchant of Venice."

How did you spend the 4th of July?
- I had the day off work. Bran and I drove around looking at fireworks.

How did you spend Patriot Day? (September 11)
- Watching Netflix, apparently. I was in the middle of binge-watching the second season of "Galavant."

How did you spend Talk Like a Pirate Day? (September 19)?
- It was Mom's 70th birthday, so we went to dinner.

How did you spend Halloween? (October 31)
- Went to work dressed in my Renaissance faire garb with a tricorn hat I borrowed from Christina, which for me was lazy since it's pretty much just wearing clothes for me and not a costume. People assumed I was a pirate, so I just went with it. Got a lot of compliments on my costume with people stalking me around Whole Foods for pictures (which I took with them) and asking me about different details in my costume. The cashier said I looked like I was a pirate queen and that I could be Jack Sparrow's daughter. When I went to get a coffee next door as I started to hand the guy my credit card he said, "You know, since you've had the best costume I've seen all day, don't worry about it. You're good."

That night we dropped off a six-pack for the guy in Paramount who goes all out decorating his house. He appreciated it.

How did you spend Thanksgiving? (November 24)
- Visiting Brandon's family in Arizona. On Thanksgiving Day we took a break from all the cooking to drive up South Mountain and then had dinner that night. Bran and I attempted to visit a tiki bar in Tucson that said they would be open 'til 1 a.m., but when we got there was closed. The next day we attended a family reunion, which was more of a family gathering since only like 12 people other than us showed up. Actually, that might even be an overestimate. We stayed and talked with a few people for a while. Tried out the new tiki bar. On Saturday went up to Sedona, which is more worth sharing pictures of. Sunday, we were supposed to just head out, but due to some ridiculous family drama we ended up going out with Bran's mom for a while (the family drama was NOT her or Bran's grandmother) getting breakfast and seeing the ghost town. When we finally left we made for San Diego, which was rather treacherous due to the rain and wind and our apparently less than functional wipers. We made it to the new tiki bar (yes, there's indeed a pattern) in SD, False Idol (which you have to have reservations for and then enter through a freezer), ate some sandwich's at Lestat's, and then went home.

How did you spend Christmas? (December 25)
- We opened presents. Brandon got me the leather bag I'd been really wanting from Duluth Trading. <3 I gave my parents a membership to the Huntington and a load of DVDs. We went out to breakfast and then just hung around the house all day, cooking and eating. Lee and his mom came over for dinner. I roasted a whole chicken for the first time. Lee later took his mom home and then came back to pick us up so we could look at Christmas lights in different neighborhoods.

Did you fall in love in 2016?
- Brandon and I celebrated our 12th year together. We decided to go "to the redwoods" and didn't plan for more than that. Booked a last minute stay at a Victorian inn in Mendocino. It was a great trip.

What was your favorite TV show?
- "Game of Thrones remained on top. Rick and Morty was a close second."

That was my answer last year and it's still true (holy crap, "The Battle of the Bastards" is one of the greatest television events EVER.) This year we also got into Silicon Valley, Westworld, Stranger Things, and Medici: Masters of Florence. This season of Orange is the New Black was also wonderful and heartbreaking. Just started watching Man in the High Castle. We're only halfway through the first season, and it's pretty good.

What was your least favorite show of 2016?
- Of the shows we watched, I'd say the worst was Vice Principals, which had so much potential. We've struggled to finish Twin Peaks season 2 and Luke Cage, but I wouldn't call them terrible shows or even something I'd consider a least favorite. I'd say The Walking Dead, but we gave up on that a while ago. We tried to start Preacher, which is based on one of my absolute favorite graphic novel series, and I just couldn't stop hating it. Years of anticipation.

Oh wait, this was the year I finally watched Outlander. The last two episodes of the first season are fucking traumatizing. Never picking it up again. THAT was my least favorite show of the year.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
- I always hate this question. I guess I'm more disappointed in several people than I was last year, sure.

What was the best book you read?
- Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything (by Stephen J. Dubner and Steven Levitt), Is Shakespeare Dead? (by Mark Twain <3 <3 <3), Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family (by Nicholas Pileggi), and Eaters of the Dead (by Michael Crichton) were all good reads. My favorite, though, was probably the first volume of the graphic novel, MeZolith. Goddamn beautiful.

Bran and I also listened to The Martian audiobook together. That was really good.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
- Hm. I actually didn't listen to a lot of new music this year. Favorite songs of this year were The Killers' Christmas song from last year, "Dirt Sledding" and most of Oddwood's latest album, Lawful Evil.

What did you want and get?
- I had rather simple desires this year. I wanted that bag Bran got me, new faire boots, tea at the Huntington with Elara and Kaleb, a trip to the redwoods and to take a bath in a clawfoot tub.

What did you want and not get?
- A new job, I guess. I tried transferring to another center, but that was disastrous.

What was your favorite film of this year?
- We didn't go to the movies much this year. We saw Hail, Caesar!, Deadpool, The Magnificent Seven, Star Trek Beyond, Warcraft, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (yeah, I know it's technically a 2015 movie.) Outside of that I watched Zootopia on Netflix, and that movie is actually REALLY good. As was The Big Short. Favorite of the bunch is probably Zootopia.

I also watched a lot of old movies this year, particularly ones that have been banned for one reason or another. The Devils was definitely one that'll stick in my mind. Otherwise, I've been almost obsessively been watching Akira Kurosawa/Toshiro Mifune movies.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
- I turned 31 and gave myself a five-day weekend. On my birthday, Bran and I went to the mummy exhibit at the Natural History Museum, which we got to wander through alone. We went to the newly opened Broad Museum in downtown and then walked around on the Walt Disney Concert Hall, had lunch at a pirate bar, then visited the Hammer Museum. Went to Trader Vic's for the first time (had a Mai Tai) and then went to dinner at Tam O'Shanter and had haggis for the first time. Went for tiki drinks and rocked out to The Hula Girls. A couple days later, Bran and I went down to San Diego to visit the zoo. Afterward, he proposed again with the ring while we were by the Museum of Man in Balboa Park. We celebrated with sangria at The Prado.

What is one thing that would have made your year more satisfying?
- If every morning my feet didn't hurt so bad that I have to grab onto every surface on my way to the bathroom.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept of 2016?
- Not much difference. I wore dresses from time to time. I've definitely tried to tone down the graphic T-shirts more, specifically when I feel a dress makes a better impact, like at Brandon's family reunion. I bought a pair of knee-high boots, which I started wearing this week. Easily my favorite shoes at the moment, especially paired with the scarf my parents brought for me from South America and more form-fitting pants. I mostly stopped wearing flip flops since they're doing nothing for my feet. Looking back through pictures of myself from the year, I'm usually either wearing a dress or a plain shirt. Depending on the season, I'm either wearing my Hawaiian shirt (spring and summer), a hoodie (earlier months of this year), or my military-ish jackets and flannels (this fall and winter.)

Snapshot a client took of me a couple weeks ago:

Still, I've definitely spent more on clothes than I think I ever have at any other time in my life.

What kept you sane?
- "Getting ramen, trying new things, and remembering to keep something positive on the horizon. Brandon and I started doing date nights, which made long weeks much bearable knowing there'd be something good to look forward to Friday night after work."

My answer for last year is still just as true as ever. We haven't really done date night much this year, but Brandon was still a great anchor for me and talking things out with him usually helped a situation. Usually reminding myself that I had something great coming up was enough to take my mind off some of the bullshit 2016 was apt to throw at all of us.

What celebrity/Public figure did you fancy the most?
- I'd say Chris Pratt, but he still wasn't enough to make me even the slightest bit interested in Passengers. Still, he was one of the good parts of the new Magnificent Seven. Oooh, Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Then again I've already liked Pratt for a while, but not so much as a crush as just a general, "Hey, that dude's all right. He's the only thing good in this movie."

I'll admit a guilty pleasure here, though: 'Shipping Rey and Kylo Ren. Shhhh....

What political issue stirred you the most?

What news story was the most overblown?
- While I understand that celebrities can mean a lot to people, I was very tired of the mass-outcry over every single celebrity death with the words, "Fuck you, 2016." I get it when you are and have been a fan, but it's been too much. Believe it or not, that person didn't even know you exist.

Anyway, it's only going to get worse. More and more people whose names you know will eventually pass away. It's just we've hit this critical mass of people who have access to the internet who are at least minimally aware of some work the person passing away has done. Millennials be like, "Holy crap, Willy Wonka just died!" but didn't know Gene Wilder's other work, let alone his most recent. I don't know, I'm weird when it comes to parasocial relationship grief.

Who do you miss?
- There's too many people to really itemize this answer. The top of the list is one of my clients who's since changed centers. I got to say goodbye at least, though he's non-verbal. I slipped a burned CD of Kirby's Dream Band songs into his backpack since he so loved listening to them.

Did you reconnect with anyone?
- Yes and no. I hadn't really spoken to a lot of the LBCC crowd in years, though I got to hang out and talk with some here and there.

Tell us a life lesson you learned in 2016.
- As former astronaut Michael J. Massimino put it in an NPR interview, talking about his spacewalk to repair the Hubble Telescope, "No matter how bad things may appear, you can always make them worse."

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
- Seems like every year I quote "The Parting Glass." I feel the second half of the song is more applicable.

"So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all
Oh, all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be with you all.
"

What plans do you have for 2017?
- Really not sure. My plans are a muddle, especially with all this wedding planning that needs to get done. Been at this a year and all we've got is a band and a make-up/hair person.

What are your resolutions for 2017?
- I really should get on losing weight and jump-start this wedding planning. We've got a venue in mind, but our date is too far ahead for them to book. And yes, I'll still do my "One New Thing a Day," because I've already been at that for years.

What will you be doing for New Year's Eve?
- Honestly, I'm still not sure. My co-workers want to do something and invited me. Supposedly we're doing something tonight. I don't know, I'm just going with it.

Heh, honestly I think that 2016 might become another iconic historic year like 1968... famous for many things, not all of them good.

What have you done in 2016 that you have never done before?
- Buy a car on my own, got divorced, got allergy shots, had a roommate I wasn't dating (for a bit), watched a cat be put to sleep, have three cats, watch a cat die from grief (sister of the one that was put down) have a stair break under me, sold a car on my own, interviewed in person for a teaching job, see Nightwish in concert, break out in hives, have my own computer chair, spend most of a day walking around downtown Butler hunting pokemon, cook with stoneware, go to the Huntington Library, drink Rose tea, have a layover in Phoenix and Dallas, have tea at a bonfire (still can't believe that worked), ate a Tim Tam slam, ate spam, when to a restaurant in Little Tokyo, had cold brew coffee, went to a haunted house in Pittsburgh, went to Waldameer in Erie, had windows open during winter, dealt with a phone recall, assembled a cat tree, got hand foot and mouth disease.

Did you keep your new years resolution from this year, and will you make one for next year?
- Yes, I left. Next year, yeah... I am going to try to cut down on soda consumption and go to gym more.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
- No one super close, no... most were last year.

Did anyone close to you die?
- My aunt... same morning as Carrie Fisher.

Did anyone close to you get married?
- Pat did, and I wish I could have made it to the ceremony, it looked great.

Did anyone close to you get divorced?
- Just me

Where did you travel to in 2016?
- Erie for an afternoon, and southern California for a week.

What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016?
- Celebrities that I like not dropping dead left and right? Seriously though, less big expenses would be good (divorce, moving, and car are not cheap things). A job that I don't utterly hate would be nice as well.

What dates from 2016 will you have etched in your memory, and why?
- Feb 7 (day I said I wanted to leave), Feb 10 (day Kaleb and Bret helped me move out), Feb 24 (Nightwish concert), Aug 19 (day divorced finalized), Sept 20 (day we came back from California and Kaleb and I agreed we were openly dating since most people knew... still not sure Ben does), Nov 8 (day the world completely lost it's mind)

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
- Qualifying for a good car loan, all on my own. Super proud of that. Also getting out of an increasingly toxic relationship and managing to save the underlying friendship that was still good.

What was your biggest failure?
- Not getting a new job

Did you suffer injury or illness?
- When don't I injure myself somehow? But besides my general klutziness, I got a childhood illness that now has me taking steroids to get rid of the rash. Great.

What was the best thing you bought?
- New car. It is nice having piece of mind that it won't fail on me in cold weather, and that new parts won't need to be special ordered because they don't stock them... side note, though, apparently my old car still lives and is serving it's new family well.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
- Kaleb. His maturity and determination is incredibly admirable. My mother as well, for getting a decade old family feud to finally start healing.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
- The American people. This election cycle was nasty! People on both sides pissed me off with their ignorance and unwillingness to listen to each other... and it's like it just keeps going. I've never seen this country so easily divided and I've never felt so uncomfortable about where we are going.

Where did most of your money go?
- Rent, car, insurance, trip to California, lawyer, food, gifts.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
- Going to LA to visit everyone and seeing how Kaleb would react his first time there.

What song will always remind you of 2016?
- "Sad Statue" by SOAD and "You're Mine" by Disturbed.

Compared to this time last year, you are:
a) Happier or Sadder?
- Despite all the shit that has gone down this year, I am much, much happier.
b) Thinner or Fatter?
- Fatter
c) Richer or Poorer?
- I think about the same or a little richer, actually. I have more expenses, but I am not the only one paying them now. It helps SO much!

What do you wish you would have done more of?
- Making my own lunches

What do you wish you would have done less of?
- Being so hard on myself

How did you spend New Year's Eve? (December 31, 2015)
- Playing boardgames and drinking with Ben and Kaleb

How did you spend New Year's Day? (January 1)
- Making fun of Kaleb for getting so drunk, watching the Winter Classic

How did you spend Valentine's Day? (February 14)
- Working, still dealing with panic attacks from my decision to leave, feeling guilty for leaving a week before even if Ben hated the holiday... I know Kaleb did something to chear me up but I can't for the life of me remember what.

How did you spend St. Patrick's Day? (March 17)
- Working. I think I got to have a beer, but I don't remember.

How did you spend Easter? (March 27)
- Don't remember

How did you spend Cinco de Mayo? (May 5)
- Working. Had taco bell since I couldn't get real Mexican food.

How did you spend the 4th of July?
- Working, and I honestly don't remember what after

How did you spend Patriot Day? (September 11)
- Working and still refusing to call it that. Packing for the trip

How did you spend Talk Like a Pirate Day? (September 19)?
- Forgetting to talk like a pirate, getting ready to fly home, and going to my friend Amanda's pirate day tiara party... it was quite fun.

How did you spend Halloween? (October 31)
- Went to my friend Tabby's Halloween party. This year it was Harry Potter theme so I got to bring my wand and kick ass at trivia. Fun times... and she made the most gorgeous banners for the houses out of cardboard.

How did you spend Thanksgiving? (November 24)
- Lazed about in the morning and then had a small feast for just me, Kaleb, and the kitties (they got wet food). It was really simple but fun.

How did you spend Christmas? (December 25)
- Went to Kaleb's aunt's house, which was fun until I started coming down with what turned out to be hand, foot, and mouth disease... nothing kills you day faster than the chills. Still fun overall, but I felt bad for spoiling the day.

Did you fall in love in 2016?
- Yeah. He made it hard not to by being so sweet.

What was your favorite TV show?
- Game of Thrones remains king, especially this last season... Last Week Tonight with John Oliver comes in close second.

What was your least favorite show of 2016?
- Marvel Agents of SHIELD... just not liking this season. I can't even get into it.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
- Kinda... more like intensely annoyed by moreso than hate. It's hard to like incompetent newbies that make more than you do or managers that fuck you over without even blinking.

What was the best book you read?
- That I haven't read before... I would say "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" just because it was nice to have that little bit of story about how it all turned out, even if it is far from perfect. Plus it through the group out here into a Harry Potter themed year it would seem... and I greatly enjoyed that.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
- Delain, saw them open for Nightwish and Sonata Arctica... nice band, and the lead singer has a really good voice.

What did you want and get?
- A divorce and retaining the friendship. To keep my cats. To see so many of my friends on the California trip, to have tea at the Huntington with Lee and Rogue, and for my friends and family to like Kaleb while also not thinking I left Ben for him.

What did you want and not get?
- A new job, and a less pissy Ben.

What was your favorite film of this year?
- That is a hard call... but probably going to have to go with Deadpool. It was just too funny.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
- I turned 32. I had to work on my actual birthday, but the Sunday before that my friends and I were able to go to Smokey Bones and have a nice dinner to celebrate. I got some lovely presents and had awesome cake. The sucky thing about having my birthday when I do and working retail is I am pretty much unable to get time off so I don't get to do anything super fun. But after I got off work, Kaleb and I did go down to the Butler Brew Works for a beer, and they put mine on the house when they saw it was my birthday. Ended up having a fun chat with our bartender about Harry Potter, sparked by her Deathly Hallows tattoo and in general having a nice evening.

What is one thing that would have made your year more satisfying?
- IIf my body would stop hurting... back could stay in alignment for one thing. Other than that... I think it would have been nicer if Ben had taken my leaving as a wake-up call to get his shit together like I had hoped.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept of 2016?
- Not much difference, really. Still jeans and t-shirts. Tried a few shorter sleeves, but not happy with them.

What kept you sane?
- Not even going to try and downplay it... Kaleb. He became my best friend by being the person I could talk to that didn't judge, would just let me vent, and then would try to help instead of tearing me down. He became my boyfriend by doing much the same... helping me calm down when I was panicking, making me laugh to snap me out of depression... just caring. Helping me hunt for new jobs when I was about to snap and giving me encouragement whenever he could. This year was so hard, and he helped me so much while asking for nothing in return. It made all the difference.

What celebrity/Public figure did you fancy the most?
- Eh... for the sake of putting something, I will say Ryan Reynolds... because, again, Deadpool was awesome.

What political issue stirred you the most?
- The whole damn election... just too much shit to list.

What news story was the most overblown?
- The Comey letter right before the election... there was no reason for it, no reason to blow it up like they did... and I really do think it was designed specifically to bait the media and hurt Clinton in the election.

Who do you miss?
- So many of my friends who are back in California. My family. And my aunt who just passed a few days ago. I kept putting off calling her in the hospital because I didn't want to bother her, and now I am hating myself because I didn't.

Did you reconnect with anyone?
- Yes, sorta. I reconnected with my friend from high school last year, which I think was my answer last year actually... but I got to hang out and visit with her on my trip in September. We both did a good job of only tearing up a little bit... but it had been over ten years since we'd seen each other face to face so it was great to hang out again.

Tell us a life lesson you learned in 2016.
- Change is terrifying, and there is no control over what will happen; but sometimes it really is the best thing for you, even if you are scared.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
-I really can't come up with one for me personally... so I turn to the one that I joked was the song for 2016 in general....

"Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you, too
Another one bites the dust"

What plans do you have for 2017?
- Saving for the move in 2018, possibly trying to get to Gettysburg for a quick trip in April... beyond that, nothing is certain.

What are your resolutions for 2017?
- Cut down on soda, go to gym, try and be nicer to myself

What will you be doing for New Year's Eve?
- Since Tabby hasn't invited anyone over, looks like Kaleb and I will be going to Butler Brew Works for their little New Year's party... hello unlimited nacho bar!

What have you done in 2016 that you have never done before?
I got a job that I actually really like, and want to go to every day!

Did you keep your new years resolution from this year, and will you make one for next year?
Didn't make one, don't plan on making one for this year.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
My sister did, although "close" might be saying a bit much.

Did anyone close to you die?
Not this year.

Did anyone close to you get married?
Haha, no. My friends are too smart for that.

Did anyone close to you get divorced?
See above.

Where did you travel to in 2016?
I visited my parents in October. That was... an experience. I haven't seen them since 2013 I think? My second daughter was born in 2015 so we thought it was time to go.

What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016?
Money.

What dates from 2016 will you have etched in your memory, and why?
Oh jeez I don't think I'll specifically remember any single thing from this year. Except Harambe, of course.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Oh see number one! Great job in a great industry.

What was your biggest failure?
Oh man... I fail a lot but I don't think anything is big. I guess I, once again, failed to take care of my body?

Did you suffer injury or illness?
Nope! Fit as a fiddle! (Albeit a lethargic fiddle with a dad-bod)

What was the best thing you bought?
Hrm... I don't think I made any major purchases this year. Should have done this last year, I'd have a lot of much more interesting stuff, especially for this category! Oh wait, I got a brand new washer and dryer set! My clothes have never been cleaner!

Whose behavior merited celebration?
A close friend of mine has been stuck in crappy minimum wage jobs since he got out of high school, but starting in 2014 he really turned his life around. He's done very well for himself and is on track to having a nice life.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Ooh... Let's not go there just yet.

Where did most of your money go?
Food. Food and daycare. Two kids drain money like no other.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Finding Xeogaming, of course!

What song will always remind you of 2016?
Haha, in a few weeks I won't even think of 2016 ever again.

Compared to this time last year, you are:
a) Happier or Sadder?
This time last year? Sadder, but don't read too much into it, over all 2016 was better for me.

b) Thinner or Fatter?
Fatter.

c) Richer or Poorer?
Probably about the same...

What do you wish you would have done more of?
Everything. I have so many things I want to do but just no time to do them in.

What do you wish you would have done less of?
Watching TV

How did you spend New Year's Eve? (December 31, 2015)
Oh I think I got blasted downtown.

How did you spend New Year's Day? (January 1)
Is this about 2016 or 2017? Either way, I just stayed at home and played with my children.

How did you spend Valentine's Day? (February 14)
A nice dinner, nothing fancy, and some stuff that may be uncouth to talk about.

How did you spend St. Patrick's Day? (March 17)
Working, i'm sure.

How did you spend Easter? (March 27)
Easter was cold this year, we just painted eggs.

How did you spend Cinco de Mayo? (May 5)
Finished watching Star Wars.

How did you spend the 4th of July?
Lit fireworks at my father-in-laws.

How did you spend Patriot Day? (September 11)
That was a Sunday... So I probably spent it resenting my wife for not getting the day off.

How did you spend Talk Like a Pirate Day? (September 19)?
I think I forgot about it...

How did you spend Halloween? (October 31)
Heh, lots of face paint. It was fun putting it on but it took longer to get it all off. Never doing a full job again! Anyway, went trick-or-treating with the little ones, then drank heavily. Okay, it sounds like I do this a lot but I swear it's only two or three times a year!

How did you spend Thanksgiving? (November 24)
With my wife's cousin. It was nice.

How did you spend Christmas? (December 25)
Oh god Christmas was awful. We hosted and everybody had something to say about it. I don't think that will ever happen again.

Did you fall in love in 2016?
Nope.

What was your favorite TV show?
Well I think I was still on Ash vs Evil Dead at the beginning of the year. Or maybe I should just say Steven Universe since I missed AvED's season 2.

What was your least favorite show of 2016?
idk

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate is a waste of energy. I try to stay positive.

What was the best book you read?
Heh... This clearly wasn't designed for parents.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
Not really a "discovery" but for some reason I got really into Pearl Jam this year.

What did you want and get?
I got a really great job!

What did you want and not get?
A saxophone.

What was your favorite film of this year?
Hrm.... Saying Captain America seems a bit trite but let's face it, it was damn good!

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Spent a good while with the family, and started a brand new D&D group. We still meet most weeks!

What is one thing that would have made your year more satisfying?
Paying off my student loans.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept of 2016?
It was kind of late in the year (in fact, I'd consider this more of a 2017 because I just got them in December), but boots. I got a pair of boots that I love and I'm not taking them off. I just got so damn tired of not being able to find a decent leather plain-toe oxford shoe for under $150, so I bought some leather plain-toe boots instead and they're great.

What kept you sane?
My mantra

What celebrity/Public figure did you fancy the most?
Hrm... I feel like I was really digging on someone this year but i can't remember who.

What political issue stirred you the most?
Well, the Cincinnati Zoo asked people to stop using Harambe in their memes, and out of respect for them I had to oblige, but man... Oh man.

What news story was the most overblown?
Email.

Who do you miss?
I live very far away from all of my family, so them.

Did you reconnect with anyone?
Not this year.

Tell us a life lesson you learned in 2016.
You can check your car's radiator as much as you want, but in the end, it can still fail out of nowhere.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Oh, I'm losing sight
I'm losing touch
All these little things seem to matter so much
That they confuse me
That I might lose me

What plans do you have for 2017?
Just be better.

What are your resolutions for 2017?
I don't really do resolutions.

What will you be doing for New Year's Eve?
I went to bed early.
