There have been ideas floating around. Basically staff would elect a member of the month. Rewards will be decided later, I guess.

I could honestly go either way. It is an interesting idea.

I've seen things similar to this on other boards, with members that were elected "Board President" and other things.

The Reward would probably be, either we'd keep track of the person who get's "Member of the Month" and they'd kind of be marked down as history, and or we'd give that member special privelages of some kind I guess.

I don't know, this is still a loose idea. So, suggestions and anything else are welcome.

Giving people a banner is a good idea. They could put it in there bio. We could even have a thread where the member of the month was announced.

I hate to be the negative one, but no.

On other forums, then it requires everyone to all be friends, and makes people feal bad if they aren't chosen and have been working hard.

It could also bring fellings of jealousy, and anger at the winner. Remember when Xeo tried the idea to allow each member to moderate for a month, starting with Gir, and remember how much flaming and anger happened with that? This could do the same thing.

I agree with Vulkar.

If someone post at their hardest and someone else get their credits, guess what? Hacking and flaming and spamming is motive here. Not to mentions everyone won't agree on the same point of views and many may felt betray because they thought they are totally friends and well...

Until "Vote For Me" crap come up and you would be forced to decide between friend A and friend B or friend C and guess what? You basically can't decide because they are going to attack you!

Vulkar, it was me about Gir. *nod*

Right now, I think choosing one side and letting a person who get be a member of the month seem more ridulous anyway... It might even say: "If you win the Member of the Month, you may get a chance to be a staff member as well!" and everyone would do their damnest to cheat their way out. Heck, how would you feel if Zabuza cheat with Elara posting back and forth in one thread (and it is real)? That = No equal and fair.

Plus, it give off the vibes as well. "Hi, I am the member of the month and I am very much superior to you. Bow down before me, you jackass." Not to mention it may other people feel more interior and feel disrespect because of what THEY did the responsible way and long way. Not picking out poster who eventually cheat because they only post few words and doesn't mean it.

My 2 cents.

Either way that you feel suits the board best.

Hmmm... might open up for competitive, yet higher activity.

I'm not going to vote yes or no until I see more feedback in this thread. As Ibegan reading, it sounded like a wonderful idea...and then I kept reading and I see the points of both sides. To be perfectly honest, nothing pisses me off more than flaming. Spamming is just off topic crap and all...but when you get down to it, flamming is something that is downright mean. So I wouldn't want to advocate flamming. Then again, if we get enough votes here...I mean there is a yes OR no option...so people wouldn't be able to say "Oh I didn't like the idea, but never got the chance to say so."

**shrugs** I agree with Rogue(?) too though...

I voted no. A few reasons, nothing major, but here is how I see things.

Firstly, I think the board is fine how it is, and this is just something else to add into it, and honestly, more isn't always better. I don't see how it will make the board any better really. But I do see potential for it to cause harm. Potential, not saying it has to, but it has the makings of something bad in it.

Change isn't always good, that's what it boils down to.

But if people all really want it, then don't let me stop them. I just don't see what good it will really have beyond another thing for people to strive for. Sure it's a bit of pride for them, but at what possible cost?

Food for thought.

Let's me be the first to describe the situation and reveal both side:

Pro: (Alway the first.)
- Award the poster
- Something new
- Get a free prize, a banner (but who is going to do it?)
- May increase activity
- Inspire the user
- ... I can't honestly think anymore... Would someone fill me in here?

Con:
- Promote flamming
- Promote spamming
- May began to disrespect people / poster
- May result in competitive (which will result as a Win/Lose, Lose/Win, or Lose/Lose, not good)
- May increase anger and may disagree with ideas
- Staff may hold a grudge toward to few poster, this would be pretty stupid because this would limited to people.
- If people take advantage and try to get someone to attack themselves, they want to get a chance for the member of the month award.
- Causing hard-work poster to feel less respected because s/he felt that s/he did their hardest. They could commit suicide over something stupid like this. (, that would I feel if I did my hardest and feel disrespect by everyone)
- May cause poster to feel interior to the member of the month

As you can see... There is more con then pro, and pro doesn't seem to have the highest priority as to con. I see that the con make a great huge risks factor toward to the pro and minimize the pro to work out smoothly and this may create a huge risk problem.

I know most of you probably hate me (Tamarin come mind) but sometime, you need to consider the both side opinion before you vote. Like the previous thread about member of the month, I view that the con is a great risk factor than the pro I am worrying about.

Plus... it could hurt most people's feeling too. People's feeling is my numbero uno concern... that's all...

I believe it's "inferior". Just had to point out your little mistake. [/smartass v.2]

I don't really care how this goes, it could be pretty good to have, though. Although it may have a few problems, it probably wouldn't be anything too big, and if anyone gets outta line, that's their ticket to Grey NameVille.

Could be a bit of an acitivity booster.

don't we already have that thing that counts who posts the most in a day/week or w/e it was? plus, what else besides posts can we use to decide who should be member of the month? plus, who'll get to choose, regular members or mods? and how do we know the rating system that will be used is fair? if mods, you can easily have friends who vote for friends, same goes for if everyone can vote. i think if we'll do this, there should be a lot of requirements. as... you can only win if you're at least 90 days old, or something like that, and only members 100 days old are allowed to vote, or something like that.... i dunno, i said no, but we should have strict guildlines for it, or perhaps prizes or something like that when the actual site goes back online =/ i dunno...

I think member of the month isn't that bad of an idea. It'd be a nice addition to the board, and another sign that Xeogaming is continually improving. The poll is a nice idea and all, but the results are inevitably going to be bias. No matter which way you split it.

If you leave it up to the members, then friends will vote for friends and so on. Then people will get people to sign up just to vote for them. I wouldn't put it past some of the people on this board.

The staff would probally make a tad bit more justified decisions when deciding. However, even the staff has their small biases, it's human nature.

I think it could be a good idea, I just can't think of a good way to implement it. I voted yes. (I think there should be an 'Indifferent' option)

hmm... well I was going to put my two cents in but ... I'm just seeing a lot of negativity towards it and when I really think about it, member of the month is just going to turn ugly, I don't know

There is going to have to be a lot of preparation into finding someone to nominate, yes it will most likely make people jealous and do we really need that here, or people may enjoy it, but from what certain people have said here so far and in the other thread it will turn ugly... I'm just getting a lot of negativity from this thread for some reason and it's upsetting me

Xeo ... I think the Voting’s you have up every year will do fine for the time being, I mean its something fun to do, it isn't popping up all the time and just feels a lot safer

You are all missing the point. Member of the month isn't about how many posts you have it's just to recognize someone for what they did. This person could have made a really cool thread..or done something really funny. It'd just be for anyone who stood out.

A good point. So, we could have 'both' the staff pick, and then possibly the members, and we could maybe average them out, or something?

I don't see how this could really be a 'bad' thing, but I can see where people are coming from saying it could lead to others feeling inferior, and possibly left out.

I think this is a good idea, but also it could cause some serious compitition on the board. But I really think this could be a good idea. It could also maybe get people to post more and be more active.

But maybe this is just the raving speech of a lunitic.

I will not give my opinion yet, but perhaps if you'd show exactly what you'd do to choose a Member of the Month it might calm the naysayers, since you said it's not about post count.

I can see both good and bad about it, though if post count has nothing to do with it really then it might work.

My opinion at least, I'd consider someone who's fairly active, and "involved" with the board that supports it or something, maybe someone who brings members, or runs a "Game Thread" or just something along the lines like that.

Then, I think we'd maybe consider some canidates, and make a poll about it.

Not sure if that all would work out though, that's just kind of what I've thought about on this so far.
