www.behindthename.com

Naming your character was a large portion in the Character Creation guide made by Cyro, and of course a vital part in making that specific character you want to create. This site gives you a plethora of names - each one with their derived meanings. You can choose from multiple different cultures - even hit a randomizer button that will give you a name based on a simple choice of gender and nationality. There are even mythological names, and in the randomizer you can get Witch, Fairy, and even Transformer names if you so wish. Its really a great site if you're stuck on a name for a new character. Its easy to navigate too; you can search a name you already know to see what the backgrounds and origins of it are. You can also search for namesakes, meanings to the name, and the popularity of the name.

Just go check it out - I'm sure it'll help someone who can't think of a name.

Something seems to be wrong with the link. Did you properly link it?

[edit]Ah, I know. You still had xeogaming's url in the link. Try this one:

Speaking of which i just went to that. I did a very quick scan in the "C" section to find "Cyro", but never got down that far because of a name I came across-

CAELESTIS m Late Roman
From a Late Latin name which meant "of the sky, heavenly".

Yeah, thats what happened to me. I was looking for a name for an RP I wanted to join, but I kept getting sidetracked by looking at other ones that were there. Most of the names, I found, were derived from Latin names.

CAELESTIS
- from the word caelum, caeli (being a neuter noun) meaning sky, heaven.

Yeah, it helps when you actually know the Latin. ^_~

So anyway, before I checked the site, i already had a good idea of what I would find for Sparda. I wasn't all too surprised when there wasn't a SPARDA in the listing since Sparda is a corruption of the name Sparta (being the name of one of the Greek cities, known for their strong military academies and campaigns) or even Sparatcus (which means 'from Sparta').

So yeah. fun stuff. I should look up other names I have.

Wow, Jade is an English name derived (most likely) from a Spanish word.

Simply means "jade" from the name of the precious stone that is often used in carvings. It is probably derived from the Spanish (piedra de la) ijada meaning "(stone of the) colic", relating to the belief that jade could cure colic.

And of course, Elara couldn't be found. However, I already know where it is from. Greek mythology lists Elara as the mother of the giant Tityus by Zeus. All I did is change the pronounciation from "E-lair-ah" to "E-lahr-ah"

... oh, and I fixed the link in the first post. I find using the longer < a href="http://www.blah.something">link name< /a>
