Oregon and Washington I don't think care as much as the midwest and eastern states... at least not about the California part... Los Angeles, maybe. As for the middle east thing... well. unless they are going to check your passport you can always lie and say you are Canadian if you think it might be better to hide the truth.

Back from Vegas. Saw lots of cool stuff: Trekkies, Trekkers, mermaids, pinball hall of fame, casinos, and stuff. Good weekend thus far.

Saw a few meteorites while in the desert (right after the lightning storm), but here in California it's too overcast to watch the meteor shower.

Yeah, I think Ben got to see one meteor as well. Sky had been clear nearly every night, but on the nights with the meteor shows it was foggy and/or overcast. So not fair!

Yeah, WHAT THE FUCK? It's been overcast in SoCal during almost every meteor shower for the past 3 years. Same thing happened with the Super Moon (thankfully we got a picture just before the clouds rolled in) and a couple lunar eclipses.

The only reason we were able to get a clear view of the Quadratids was because we were in the middle of the desert in Arizona in the middle of the night.

The thing about Washington and Oregon in regards to California is they're sort of like San Francisco's opinion of Los Angeles. The opinion of the south continues to get lower as you go higher. San Francisco thinks its better than L.A. The areas above San Francisco (Humboldt, Redding, Eureka, Santa Rosa, etc) think they're better than them. Oregon (specifically Portland) is of the mind that they're better than that group, and Washington (Seattle, etc) believes it's better than the whole lot.

A lot of people feel this is a hipster thing since the rank of hipster increases as you go north on the westcoast, it's been like this is far as I can remember. Every now and then a list will go out that will piss everyone off about L.A. being the most unlivable city and Seattle being the best.

It's all rather stupid if you ask me. Each place has stuff that makes it awesome and stuff that makes it suck. People that try to say otherwise are just fucking delusional.

Yeah, the whole thing came up as a joke when Stephen Colbert said he wasn't sure if he's called Oregon "California's Canada" or "Washington's Mexico."

Funny thing, apparently this friend of mine, who lives in Cerritos, is yet again bitching about San Francisco being better than L.A. on Facebook. A week ago she was at my house throwing a fit about this mutual acquaintance from the Bay Area who always goes on about it being better than here. It's funny how serious the topic becomes.

I wonder what would happen if these wing-nut conservatives actually manage to break SoCal away from NorCal and create their own state, like they've been trying to do lately. I could see it being financially stronger, but it would definitely be redder and would need to figure out what to do for water since I'm certain the north would cut off the L.A. aqueduct and any other water sources the Southland pulls from just to survive. No telling what would happen to the undocumented immigrants.

From what I remembered seeing of the proposed split, Los Angeles would be left in "the north" and it would be basically everything south and east of the LA County lines. They think Los Angeles is too liberal to be included apparently.

It would be amusing to see how fast they would fail, but it would suck for a lot of people that I know who live in Orange County and work in places like Long Beach, San Pedro, Lakewood, Cerritos, etc.

I've been hearing the "San Francisco is so much better" crap from my uncle since I was a kid... yet he will still drop everything to come down and run around Hollywood for a week. I honestly have never gotten to do much when I have been up there visiting him... I have vague memories and photographs of a park, the zoo, Chinatown, and the Wharf. Normally it is "get him, come home" or "drop him off, go home"... and the one "visit, dinner, home" that we did on our way back from Oregon when my leg was in a cast (my only trip to Oregon).

Despite the "outsider" vibe I get from being from California, people seem really interested when I tell them it is where I am from. A lot of them have asked why the hell I left sunny SoCal and the beaches to move here... though they all do quickly understand the "it's cheaper here" response I get. They also all think I am some kind of alien for loving the winter here.

Ha, didn't realize they would place the border there, but then again I'm not surprised having spent a chunk of my college years in the O.C., covering events in Fullerton and Santa Ana for the paper. Like just before an event, this speaker actually introduced a student speaker as being a "South County native," which was greeted with "oohs" and loud applause. South County is where the wealthier communities of Orange County are. I felt like I was in the South for a second. The O.C. is also notoriously RED and HATES Los Angeles.

Funny thing, Santa Ana has the largest Latino community in the state, supposedly. But I could swear San Diego's was larger.

In all honesty, I love the Bay Area, BUT I will not argue that one end of the state is better than the other. I WILL however defend Los Angeles to the death if someone wants to play that stupid game.

So, working at a grocery store is interesting. I'm kinda intimidated and impressed by the coupon ladies. There are some that come into the store with folders of coupons in sleeve like nerds use for collectible cards. Fucking folders!

Went to a friend's birthday dinner a couple nights ago. Turns out Brandon and I were the only people who showed up despite there being many people invited and several who said they'd come on Facebook.

Worse than that, his girlfriend had miscarried that morning.

What the fuck, world?

Oh wow that fucking blows. Send my condolences? That is just s shitty fucking day normally, but on your birthday? That is just wrong!

You know what sucks? Staying up all night because you have the next day off, then getting called into work the next morning.

So some time back, Elara asked in the answer-ask thread what would be my ideal pizza and I decided to put it into practice. Got some rosemary focaccia bread, garlic alfredo sauce, and capicola, and just grated a lot of mozzarella off the brick we have, chopped up some onion and mushrooms, and threw on some turkey and salami and baked it all in a Pyrex dish (since I don't have a deep dish).

Not long after pulling it out of the oven, it was GONE. At least I got a slice.

Looking forward to going to the museum tomorrow. Been dying to see the new Dinosaur Hall. Had fun running around the Griffith Observatory with steampunks.

Allllll right, Hell's Kitchen tonight. I'm not leaving the house.

Doooooo it. It's awesome.

Had a great day hanging around Exposition Park, running between museums.

So no doing anything big until the trip in a month and a half. REALLY need to save money.

Watching the new episode of The Guild. It's been a good day, well, except for the thing that'll be mentioned in "Fuck You."

It's a webseries about a group of people who play an MMORPG together and decide to meet in person, and thus begins the comedy of their offline lives together.

The main character is Codex (played by Felicia Day), a self-conscious, former child prodigy with so many mental hang-ups even her therapist "fired" her. Every episode starts out with her talking to her Webcam, ala LonelyGirl15.

The other characters all have different quirks and things that annoy the others. Don't want to give too much away on that.

Each episode is like 2-9 minutes long, and they're up to season 5 now. My boyfriend and I got to be extras for a few episodes since they filmed the majority of the fifth season at a comic convention in Long Beach (tons of secret, special guests).

The entire series is watchable on their website: WatchTheGuild.com (you can seriously power through several seasons in a day)

I do warn ya. Since it all started as Felicia Day starting her own thing, the quality of the first season pales in comparison to the latter seasons. It just goes to show when you start small, you can still achieve greatness. It gets better as you watch.

A while back they also put out a music video to advertise their third season and it went viral. It shows them dressed as their in-game personalities (which you never see until the fourth season since the series is almost entirely just about their offline lives):
