This thread is designed to be the exact opposite of the "Fuck you" thread in that it's meant to specifically target others; however, this time it's for focusing on good things they've done.

The Happy Thread is a great place for positivity, but it tends to be more about situations that you are happy about in your life. This thread can address the faceless masses of people who've brought light into your world even in some small way.

Please refrain from sarcastic entries that are really just veiled Fuck yous (you know where those belong). Unlike the "Fuck you" thread, you can address anyone or anything you wish seeing as this thread is the antithesis of flaming.

If you're here to thank yourself, keep it to the Happy Thread.

So ... have at it!

----------------------------------------------------------

THANK YOU, lady who worked at McDonald's at least 7 years ago. After having a particularly bad situation with my then boyfriend that had quickly turned into verbal abuse, you comforted me, started to pray over me, and offered me a ride home. Unfortunately, the boyfriend came out and yelled at you to get away before he promptly grabbed me and drove me home, but you were there for a total stranger and even though I wasn't (and still am not) religious you were offering up to your god for me. I hope wherever you are, you're happy.

Thank you, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Ida. B. Wells, Alice Paul, and Lucy Burns. You know what you did. I wear my "I voted!" sticker because of you.

Thank you, Mrs. Smith (7th grade English and history teacher), for being the closest teacher to Miss Frizzle I've ever had, constantly taking us on field trips to museums, historic sites, and such and encouraging us to explore. When most students in our grade were stuck taking tests and sitting through lectures they slept through, we were running rampant in the streets of L.A. Even on days at school we were cooking ethnic food in the back of the room while learning about world cultures. Really makes me wish I was 12 again, honestly.

This is more fun that one would think.

Thank you Sister Maryanne. You were the best teacher I could ever hope for, and you helped me through the worst era of my life that I, to this day, still haven't trumped. I don't know what I would have done without you, and I miss you and 6th grade dearly for it. Thank you for being so wonderful that even DURING the terrible things, I would honestly say to you that I would miss being that age and the time I had with you. Thank you for teaching me to be strong and pretty damn awesome.

Thank you, all the businesses that were open on Thanksgiving day, including the T.G.I. Fridays we ended up eating dinner at 5 minutes before it closed that night because we were starving and they were cool about seating us and getting us food quickly.

Thank you, Arizona park rangers, for being really cool people even having to work Thanksgiving, especially the geeky one working the volcano crater park north of Flagstaff. You saying, "What the frak!" about the cold made me smile.

Thank you, Brandon's family, for taking me into your heart and always making me feel welcome at holiday celebrations. It means a lot to me since Thanksgiving with my dad's side always feels like my mom and I are ostracized for not being white, while Thanksgiving with my mom's side is usually an informal party with cigarette smoke-tasting processed food that all came out of boxes.

Thank you, Sara's new therapist, whom I hear is trying to take over the rape investigation and get this guy convicted. She's been helping Sara through her night terrors and sleep walking issues that really kicked up after the incident. Sara really likes this woman and I'm glad to hear it.

Hmm... let's see....

Thank you, Ms. Barboza, for helping me to discover my love of writing.

Thank you, Ms Baskin, for showing me that teachers could be nerdy and awesome and still be good teachers.

Thank you, Charlie Wuchner, for introducing me to Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering.

Thank you, Ms Magera, for being awesome and encouraging me to write novels.

Thank you, Lee, for getting me to finally like Star Trek

Thank you, Rosy, for being just as silly as I am and keeping me sane

Thank you, Ben, for putting up with my madness and loving me anyway.

Thank you, Ben's family, for being so awesome and making me feel so welcome. I could not have asked for better in-laws.

Thank you, George and Tom (my moving agents) for being so helpful and understanding.

Thank you, Barbara and Carol, for being the most flexible landladies ever... you are not perfect, but you always answer us and you have been so awesome about our moving delays.

Thank you, mom and dad, for helping get my car in good condition for the move and for being so helpful... even if you are a bit overbearing at times... I know you do it because you care.

Thank you, Joel Hodgson, Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbitt. I have been watching so much MST3K lately and it does a lot to reduce stress levels.

Thank you, random stranger (since you only signed the e-mail "TDA Unit") in the TDA office who's fucking with my degree audit ... in a good way. I e-mailed you about needing to count the geology class and subsequent lab I took at another school during the Summer '09 semester as it wasn't coming up as counting toward my science GE requirement.

Not only did you right this, you then took transferred classes from LBCC that were otherwise sitting and doing nothing and applied them toward the 15 unit non-comm requirement that I was working on with my American studies double major, rendering it useless toward that goal. I pretty much only have my internship left and don't actually need the other two classes I'm taking to finish up those 15 bullshit units you've now filled for me. Heh.

Well, I'm not just going to dump that other major, but THANK YOU for your intended help. Other than the American studies department, you're the only kind official that's helping me graduate. Cause you know, fuck the College of Communications' academic adviser. But that's for another thread.

Thank you, Tracy, Abel, Andrea, Caroline, and Gina for being excellent sources for a features story.

Thank you, mom and dad for being there for me every step of the way, for picking me up when I fall down, and kicking my ass in one direction or another to make sure I completed my journey.

Heh, I wish there had been people in the LBCC and CSULB offices that had been that helpful.

Oh, and thank you to the employees at Carl's Jr who kept their cool while being berated by a guy that was high on acid or something. The guy was really, really annoying and they kept their faces neutral, didn't let him get too out of control, and one calmly slipped away to call the cops. We left before they got there, but I was super impressed with how the employees remained professional and even had a sense of humor about it.

Thank you, university library, for being an unending source for papers this semester. Whenever a teacher has given me a paper saying I need at least 4-7 outside academic sources, you've come through and had books on even the most inane topics.

On top of that, THANK YOU for having access to many up-to-date databases that have also been an infinite buffet of knowledge. Even when I wasn't doing a project, it was fun reading scanned news clippings from the 1700 and 1800s.

Thank you, camera store worker, for pulling down everything top-of-the-line and letting us play with them to figure out what we might like. Turns out we were wrong about wanting the Canon, as the Nikon you showed us was better and came with an instant $100 rebate knocking the price down to $300. Best camera we've ever had, and it takes amazing pictures even through a dirty window of a car that's in motion.

Thank you, graphic novels class professor, for introducing me to some titles I haven't picked up yet and putting some that I've already read in a new light. Seriously, this is the only class I've ever had with 14 textbooks and I'm NOT selling back ANY OF THEM.

Thank you, stupid Facebook app, for reminding me I had a pretty good year full of new experiences and good friends.

Thank you, sister, for the nice dinner free of mention of all the drama going on right now.

Ha, that facebook app pointed out I spent most of the year exhausted.

Thank you to all the kind people we met on the drive out, and especially to Ben's aunt for dinner and my mom's best friend for letting us crash at her place the second night.

Thank you, Brandon's grandma, for being so fucking awesome. The CSU raised our fees 5% and demanded payment the day the fees showed up on our accounts. For some reason CSUF does NOT accept Visa credit cards or check cards with Visa's logo on it (what I have... FUCK!), and she paid off my fee with her Master Card. When I offered to pay her back in cash right away she just waved me off saying it was an early graduation present.

I love this woman. Truly. Truly. Truly.

Rogue: CSUF hates Visa... the fuck? Brandon's grandma is super-awesome.

Anywho, thank you to Giant Eagle (supermarket chain out here). My prescription costs as much without insurance as it does with my copay thanks to your rewards card, and your pharmacy workers are so nice. Also, thank you for carrying my Sapporo Ichiban ramen, I thought I would have to have mom send me them in packages... now if only you sold spicy curry instead of just mild. Then you would be perfect.

Thanks, Dad, for once again coming through and giving us an advance so we could still go on our trip as planned.

Thank you, cool people who own the Museum of Death, for singing the Cerritos Auto Square song to me on my birthday and then showing me their Siamese turtle they keep in a tank in an area not open to the public.

Thank you, Brandon's dad, for offering to take us out to dinner and getting the greatest cheese fries in the world.

Thank you, bartender at Black Magic Voodoo Lounge, for understanding that when we asked if your kitchen was still open to which you giggled that all you have to eat is peanuts, you then started pulling out menus for nearby places to eat, saying it's cool if we bring it there after taking it out. Your bar was awesome, by the way. And oh my god, freezing Magners and a cold Pepsi while eating my take out? Swoon.

Thank you, random San Francisco residents (some of you cooks and waitresses), who noticed us pouring over print-outs of things to do and stepped up to suggest things you love to do in this fair city.

Thank you, hippies who ran our hostel, you guys really add to the ambiance.

Thank you, San Francisco, for being a city of great contrast, offering many interesting things to see and do (granted at a high price sometimes). You house many of my favorite things in the world and it's no wonder you were the first American city my family lived in upon coming to this country several decades ago.

Thank you, donut shop worker, for offering us bubble-wrap while we decided on what we wanted to eat.

Thank you, maze owner, for putting together a pretty damn awesome mirror maze in the middle of Pier 39.

Thank you, homeless lady, who saved me $15 on BART tickets (who then started begging me for money after she wouldn't leave us alone while Pat tried to buy tickets).

Thank you, friends who showed up to Voidcrush's gig last night. It was great seeing you all out of the blue.

Thank you, Discovery Channel, for making videos about how awesome the world is, because we often forget how many wonderous things happen on this glorious planet.

And I refer to these things:

Yeah, I know they're ads for the Discovery Channel, but damn it, this planet is awesome. Forget about Pandora and all the other fictitious places you wish you lived on. All that does is make you depressed and lose sight of the possibilities here.

Thank you to Heather Sweesy, the coworker of Ben's mom that sold us two tickets to see the Penguins game tonight. It was epic! I love the arena, I loved the view even from all the way up top, I loved the 3-0 shut-out victory against the Islanders, and I loved seeing Brent Johnson beat the shit out of the other goalie for tripping Max Talbot. Goalie fights are awesome! Plus, it meant that I got to see Fleury in the net for the last 16 seconds of the game.

Best surprise adventure ever!

Thankyou...

1. Thank you Matt for keeping me going when I feel I can't push myself on everything, I really am stronger than I think I am. However... I gotta be stronger.

2. Thank you SGT Lanier for running with me on the APFT today if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have pushed myself after injuring my ankl yesterday.

Thank you, Cora, for bringing a huge smile to my face for almost two weeks straight! I definitely needed it, and while I admit I crashed hard after you went back home, I know I'll be able to feel better soon and smile on my own!
