I remember your rant, and I think that they gave you good reason to complain. You know how you feel about that? That is how most non-Christians feel about Christmas to some degree.

If no candidates had worn them, no one would notice. If all but one wear them, people notice. It's a cheap attempt at faux-patriotism and trying to trap your opponents, nothing more.

Can't tell if that's a sarcastic all-caps or if you're really freaking out because I don't get it it had nothing to do with what he said.

**facepalm.**

I know I didn't go on a long rant like I usually do. Let's face it. I go off like an old man with random bouts of dementia.

But yeah, I think that's the inherent point about this whole advertisement (and the fact that the Brokeback Mountain reference is hilarious.) What he is saying can at least be sympathized with...understood, even if not agreed upon. BUT, the way it was said...

Ever since I saw the ad, it has not been tugging at my inner politician, but rather my knowledge and experience of the arts. This ad has garnered much confusion on my part. I have watched the ad over and over...and something about the WAY he paused after mention gays serving in the military, my mind has been racing. Did he pause like that on purpose? Did he WANT to incite the emotions this ad has already unleashed? Or was it all an accident? Did they have one too many attempts at this ad, and he's just a shitty actor; doesn't know how to add the proper emphasis to convey the right emotion. Because if that is the case, then was his real intention just to be like "Look, part A was considered shocking...and we fought for it and allowed it. Why can't we do the same with part B?"

And on the other angle...he came off as too pompous. Like he was disgusted with the fact that part A was allowed, but part B is not.

I could go on, but just...watch the ad again guys. Not even the whole thing. Just the part in the beginning. There is just something...unnatural about the whole thing. It's really difficult to tell what exactly he meant, or what happened. Some people are flat out idiots, and others are just...terrible, and I mean TERRIBLE at conducting themselves publicly. And sure, one can ask how someone like that can hold public office...but one can also combat that with "How can someone truly that dumb hold public office?" And I guess the answer is, some people are just dumb....and others are crippled by being in public. **shrugs**

(I have a lot of other points but I'd rather leave them for the debate shrine.)

Edit: Damn ninja posts. Hahaha.

Yeah, it's a horse race between him and Santorum, who stole Iowa from Romney by ONE TENTH of a percent. Ron Paul is not far behind, and Newt Gingrich is bringing up the rear.

I wish he would've stuck around longer. Getting the Republicans tearing each other apart for a longer time has obvious benefits.

I know the porn agencies that were against Santorum were hoping he'd get the GOP ticket because they're all certain Obama would cream him at the polls.

Besides, the last Pennsylvanian President didn't work out so well...

Also, I'm willing to bet money that Rick Santorum thinks he's got a good chance at being asked to fill the vice-presidency seat/candidacy.

Mild side note, but just a "dreamy" notion of what I wish politics COULD be...

My boyfriend and his family are hardcore Republicans and I bump heads with his mom a lot about it. My boyfriend just shuts down and refuses to talk about what's going on. But his dad is super cool. He's one of the few Republicans I have ever met who is able to concretely support his views and even though I don't exactly agree. He doesn't just say what he think SHOULD be, he offers potential plans to achieve those goals, and lives his own life accordingly. He also commands this sort of respect and dishes that same respect back even if he doesn't agree with you.

That's the way we all can only hope it'd be. I'm quite a fan of the Lincoln quote "You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”. I'm proud to know someone who will hear me out even though he thinks right from the get-go that I'm probably wrong, admits to me when I surprise him and make him see things differently, or still disagrees but does so without being a complete and utter jackoff about it.

Partisan is good. If Obama wins again, I hope he REALLY learned his lesson and stops trying to be everyone's friend, who sits to have a beer with you over a disagreement. That shit disgraces the office, and while at the time may be "cool" it diminishes the respectability of the office to the opponents.

It's actually kind of funny, because that's exactly how a lot of shit in Congress used to be worked out. Beer included, sometimes. Sadly, current leaders refuse to even consider it, and it shows in the rampant hostility on both sides.

I'm not so sure it's a bad idea. It just needs to be done more universally.

Republicans and Democrats should see each other exaclty as your boyfriend's dad does - as people they disagree with, not as The Enemy. But how many do?

Your second sentence there being key. The power of perception is a...well, powerful thing, whether one likes it or not. This is going to sound wrong, but there's a big difference between having interaction like that with your fellow "Washington people", I'll refer to them as, than having a beer trying to be "Yo. Cool it man." and...it just...to me, looked weak.

Kennedy's time? Dude, he'd go toe to toe during the day with his opponents, and then have a beer and play cards with them at the end of the day, and then they'd start all over again the next day.

But since it's not a universal thing anymore, I think the attempt was made in the wrong circumstance, and it just looked weak to me. I voted for the guy, and I intend to vote for him again. That's why I'm so hard on him, I guess.

But you're right. Not many people see things as disagreeances rather than enemies. And if there is a change, it's not going to happen overnight. And I'm okay with that, as long as I know I'm making an effort that'll hopefully be in that direction, and I hope others feel the same.
