My philosophy isn't much of a quote...

Live like there's no tomorrow, remembering that even in death, you are alive. You become alive each and every time you are remembered. When someone tells a story about you, you are alive and kicking in the confines of one's memory.

Spoken apart like those are, I bet they make sense more when they are put in context.

Funny indeed, however. ^-^

I feel kind of sociopathic after watching that... I don't have much feeling at all towards the action of hanging such a terrible ruler. Not anger, hate, or relief, I'm just kind of indifferent. So another person dies. Like Saddam didn't order a genocide. He deserved worse than what he got.

What if they accidently listened in when you were talking to a friend about going to smoke some weed? Would they arrest you?

You're over 18, aren't you? Then you have the right to know your birth father. And/or his story. Talk to your mom about it, though it may be an uncomfortable conversation. I didn't get know my dad's past much at all, just his personality, before he died, and I try to ask questions to his siblings and whatever, but the more I find out, the less I want to know.

But, ask questions. If what you find is ineteresting, meet him.

Hell yeah it's illegal. They could get monster fines for not cleaning up after their pet. If I was in that position, I would not be afraid to confront them and yell at them to stop being so lazy and clean up their dog's mess.

My grandpa once got angry in a similar situation and picked the poo up and threw it at someone.

since there was already a wage increase in California, I'm not too worried about it. Minimum wage here was raised 75 cents. Although I was not making minimum wage, I still got a pay raise to $8 an hour. woo.

I make $6.25/hour and my last paycheck was less than $100.00, so there's no way anyone can live off of that. I'm trying to save up what little I make because eventually, I'm going to have to start paying back student loans and it's just not cutting it right now. So I'm all for the increase, I need money since my parents aren't helping me with college.

Living in Arkansas, assuming that's where you're living according to your profile, you can live off of 6.25/hour. If you got less than $100 on a paycheck, it means you worked a whopping 16 or so hours. I made $300 on my last paycheck, for one week, at 7.50 an hour (last week was before I got my pay raise). I've got rent, electricity bill, phone bill, student loan bills, car insurance, gas for my car AND trying to save money, and I live in freakin California. You try that on less than $1200/month. But I concur, I'm all for the minimum wage increase as well.

Just the other day I cut off all my hair (it's raelly short and I look way different). First day back at work since then, I was reading, so my head was down, and what is left of my hair was covering my face. One of the more intimidating managers at my work walks past me and says hello to a coworker then says in a near mean voice, "Are you new?" I look up at him and he's clearly embarrassed, then says hi to me then leaves. Everyone else in the break room started laughing.

*shrugs* It was pretty funny when it happened.

I'm not going to school this semester. I'm trying to save up money so that I can move to Spokane, WA. There's a community college there where I can get an AA in interior design, then transfer to Washington State University for a bachelor's degree, then possibly a masters degree. There's not a decent school in southern California where I can get a high degree, and I have family up there anyhow. Those are my goals, I just need to work my ass off and save all the money I can.

Has anyone else seen this movie? It's in "select theatres" because it's subtitled (it's in Spanish).

Personally I don't mind subtitles and it did absolutely NOTHING to take away from the story itself.

It was amazing. At some points you just cringed, knowing that what was happening HAD to hurt... but you just couldn't move your eyes away.

It may be an awesome fantasy movie, but trust me, it's rated R for a reason... *shudders*

Spain in 1944, a 12-year-old girl, Ofelia (Ivana Baquero), moves with her pregnant mother and stepfather into a new home in the countryside. Her stepfather, Captain Vidal (Sergi López) has been sent to this remote area to rid it of a small Republican militia. Disliked by the sadistic and abusive Vidal, Ofelia, who revels in ancient stories and fairy tales, walks into an immense and ancient labyrinth, where she meets a faun (Doug Jones) named Pan. He tells her she is the long-lost daughter of the king of the Underworld and to regain entry to her kingdom she must carry out three tasks. From then on, Ofelia has an access to a strange and dangerous world of fairies and extraordinary creatures such as the terrifying Pale Man.

It's a very mythical and original story, and caught my attention more than most movies do.

lol, I totally agree. A lot of people didn't like it because it wasn't an obviously black and white kind of movie. You had to really think about how two worlds connected.... and the so called "unnecessary gore." Can't forget that.

I suppose it can be compared to that. It wasn't so much as a stylistic element as it was a realistic element. I'm sure gorier things have happened in times of war.

Call me a dork, but I've been lurking around a Pan's Labyrinth message board... and here are some things that link both the fantasy element and the realistic elements

***SPOILERS***

...a possible interpretation is that the Pale Man is Ofelia's fantasy's representation of Vidal. I think it's the Ortiz dude, below, who compares Ofelia and Mercedes, and that can carry over to the scene with the Pale Man. A great feast is before the Pale Man (Vidal and the storehouse) which is all sitting there just for himself. Ofelia and her fairies (Mercedes and the guerrillas) come along and steal some of the food (the attack on the storehouse). As a result, the beast awakens with a vengeance (his attack on the rebs), is no longer blind (eventually figures out both the doctor and Mercedes' roles), and chases Ofelia (Mercedes) who narrowly escapes, though not without the loss of two of her companions (several of Mercedes' comrades).

Also, do you think that the fantasy was real or Ofelia's imagination due to her dire situation?
