Apparently these people started this idea that you can find the name of your would-be indie band by combining the name of your first car with your high school mascot.

Considering the fact that the one car I did own, I never drove, here's the best that I can come up with:

Karmann Ghia Monsoons

The car I remember riding in with my mom all the time: Capri Monsoons.

Yeah, my high school had the stupidest mascot ever, a monsoon, drawn to look like a tornado. Guh.

This is one eerie coincidence.

These are select clips from the pilot episode of "The Lone Gunman," a spin-off from "The X-Files" featuring everyone's favorite computer-hacking conspiracy theorists: John Byers, Melvin Frohike, and Richard Langly.

Air date: March 2001

EDIT: Sorry, typo in the title.

This is off topic!

Sagin's line actually comes out of the song "Beelzeboss" from the Tenacious D movie; however, Clock's isn't from any song I know of and actually doesn't contribute to the song.

I just got back from seeing the midnight showing of this in the IMAX.

It's fucking beautiful.

I'll go more into detail after a bit of sleep, but I must say there's really something here for everyone. Yes, it's violent and yes, there's gratuitous chest shots (from both man and woman), but that's not the point.

It really captures the Spartan ethics for a modern audience who know virtually nothing about Greece.

Before leaving for the theater, I happened to catch Last Stand of the 300 on the History Channel at kittybob's house. It really goes in depth and was an excellent background guide to go along with the movie. It even details the unsung Spartan and Athenian heroes as well as the history of the Persians, not to mention a VERY detailed look at the weapons, armor, and fighting styles of both sides.

From what I've heard, the writer who had plotted out much of the future of Lost and much of the good material, left the show for Heroes. At least that's what's going around the Web.

Well Sin City was ALL studio, but you don't see me complaining. Matter of fact, that seems to be the best way to get a Frank Miller comic done in movie-form.

Really, while it doesn't do much for the gray matter, it's entertaining and very enjoyable. And if you've ever read the comic, or at least seen it, you'll see that Zack Snyder was brilliant in capturing the visuals exactly.

There are much better side-by-side comparisons I'm sure, but that's all I could find online right now of the exact same scenes.

Frank Miller doesn't let just anyone direct movies based on his work.

I have SO MUCH faith in Zack Snyder now. He'll be directing the Watchmen movie, which is one of my absolute favorite comics and I worried that Hollywood would ruin it.

Really, the chest shots just make it more like the classic art that's used to depict Greek life.

The above painting was done in the 1800s and depicts the Spartans featured in the movie, King Leonidas in the center.

There was an article in last Sunday's L.A. Times about Zack Snyder at the Louvre, where this painting is, on a tour of the museum and when they got to this painting, he said, "Awesome. I just made a movie of this." The tour guide turned to him saying, "Really? What does it look like?" And Snyder said, "It basically looks like this." Then the tour guide remarked, "Well those men are all naked," to which Snyder replied, "Yeah, that's kind of what the Spartans were all about."

Really, it's a very entertaining film. There are times when you just want to be entertained and 300 does the job.

Here's a 300-second preview of 300 (I didn't make the pun up. That's how it was billed when it was sent out):

It seems repetitive in the fighting because it's actually based on the historical battle of Thermopylae where a small group of Spartans actually held off the Persians enough for the villages to flee and the armies to build up enough force and influence to take out the Persians entirely.

The battle lasted three days and had the same occurrences as in the movie, minus the mythical creatures to fight.

Actually, after watching the History Channel special, I have an even greater respect for everyone involved in this movie. The fighting styles were on the ball, and yes, there was a Persian force called the Immortals. Named so because the wore black masks and didn't speak, so when one fell another would immediately take his place and it would seem like you were continuously fighting the same person over and over again.

Every movie does have its flaws, though, but I abso-fuckin'-lutely adore this film.

EDIT: Love the layout, FX. It's my favorite poster.

EDIT 2: Oh, and don't forget the ladies and transsexuals at Xerxes' sex party. I don't remember how many are actually topless, but many are damn near close or just wearing gold pasties.

Apparently, when it comes to status, the number of facial piercings you have says it all.

Just a reminder to the lot of you to turn your clocks forward now.

This was the first time I can ever remember being awake during the time change forward. Was at a bar with Zoso's band, after their set, and when it hit last call (2 a.m.), it was immediately 3.

Meh, that wasn't interesting, but I wanted to say more than the above.

Um... screw Flanders!

This weekend's been pretty busy too, but this one has been REALLY exhausting at the same time.

- Thursday: The Buddhist monks had a ceremony to destroy the very lovely and detailed sand mandala they had created. It illustrates that nothing is permanent and it purifies the environment. I'll have to post pictures.

That night, Zoso, kittybob, her boyfriend (her baby's daddy ), and I saw 300 in IMAX at midnight. It was awesome having 500 people there with you cheering and getting excited about everything. Some dressed up as Spartans with tin foil armor.

Didn't get home and go to sleep 'til 5 a.m.

- Friday: Zoso's band, Voidcrush, had another gig at a bar 50 miles from home. Didn't get home 'til 5 a.m. again.

- Saturday: Got up early and headed out to the big Native American Pow Wow at the university. Watched the grand entry, dancing competitions, and then went to the Smithsonian Week lecture on Native storytelling. More dancing and other festivities afterward.

Hopped on a bus to Zoso's work so we could immediately leave for his band's show, also nearly 50 miles from home. A fist fight broke out on the bus, making it run completely off schedule.

The gig went over well. Didn't get home until 5 again. Would have been out later if we actually partied on the Indian reservation with the other band both nights like they wanted us to do.

It isn't bragging when I say that I've been out this late several nights in a row. It's absolute exasperation. I naturally wake up really early and can't go back to sleep once I've opened my eyes in the morning.

I feel so fucking old.

I've also been chronically dehydrated these last couple days, although I didn't realize it 'til now. It's been unrelentingly hot and here I am drinking soda with everything.

Well, this past weekend was an 11:50PM showing of 300 at Long Beach Town Center (I envy Rogue so much for being able to see it in IMAX). Still awesome though.

The theater we were at sold out on IMAX and there was even a 3 a.m. showing which ALSO sold out. In fact, their IMAX tickets were sold out through Saturday afternoon. We had bought our tickets online last week.

Seriously, though, the other midnight four showings (all 35mm versions) along with the one IMAX also sold out (there were 5 theaters showing it at the one we went to), but people from those lines kept walking ours offering a trade of tickets and on top of that would give anyone who would trade $20 for every pair of tickets. No one succeeded. One girl even threw a fit that people were jerks for not giving up their tickets to her.

There was so much security on us too. They let our line in at 10 because they didn't want the 35mm people to harass us IMAX people so much.

It was a crazy night, I tell ya. Someone had brought a TV with an N64 and several games and the moment our line moved, they just got up and left it all there. Controllers and games sprawled all over and the TV still on.

Zoso's brother is watching "Frisky Dingo" and I keep looking over at it. I don't know much about the show, but right now two of the characters are discussing a major toy line they want to launch in their company, but they feel it's a rip-off of G.I. Joe or something.

Now the TV's on some sort of insect documentary show with this Australian guy who's fingering venomous insects and having mosquitoes bite him.
