If you didn't know, TV Links was shut down yesterday. They were shut down for LINKING to videos hosted on other sites. TV Links doesn't/didn't host pirated videos.

So by this logic all of us can be arrested just for posting YouTube videos.

Xeo, quick! Shut down, Video Hut before they catch us!!!

I never thought they could actually prosecute him, but what annoys me is how because TV Links was "a thorn in the sides of production companies" it's OK to take legal action if only to make an example of him.

Reminds me of the guy at the Kerry forum who was tazered for asking controversial questions. It was his right to do it and he wasn't violent, but because they didn't like what he was asking or insinuating arresting him was an acceptable thing to do.

It's absurd.

I'm so bored. There's nothing but baseball play-offs on the tube, there's nothing fascinating online, and I've just watched Seven Brides for Seven Brothers for the 12th time in the past two days.

Zoso's at band practice. Christina's at work. Pat's probably sleeping. Lee's living several hundred miles away now. Everyone else is either at band practice, out somewhere, or working Shipwreck.

I should probably do homework.

TV Links was shut down. YouTube doesn't have entire seasons of Star Trek: Voyager on it.

I can't believe I let some chick at the paper talk down to me and then set up an appointment to introduce her to Bob.

I need to clean my room. I need to pick out a ceiling fan. I need to submit my application for university.

Wait... new text message.

Christina wants me to come visit.

Talk to you later.

I suppose this sort of makes me cringe with how painful it's been to watch--a couple College Humor writers/contributors started a prank war with each other that began to grow ridiculous in the things they were pulling on each other: http://www.collegehumor.com/tag:prank-war

It started out with Streeter pranking Amir by inserting an audio clip of a couple having sex in Amir's mp3 of "Stacy's Mom," escalated to Amir calling in a fake date with Streeter and standing him up and it just goes on from there until it almost becomes more of a "How Can I Traumatize Him?" as opposed to just playing harmless little tricks.

This is the latest installment:

So sayeth Bad Religion, but seriously--They really are.

For the past few days the Santa Ana winds have been blowing fiercely through Southern California (the surf was AMAZING this weekend) and we've been having some massive brush fires.

As far as I know everyone in the area who posts on the board is fine and not in the danger zone; however, it's been occasionally raining ash that drifts from the fires and the skies in our area are filled with a thick haze (and no it isn't just the usual smog layer).

Whatever you might be hearing about the fire may also be exaggerated by the media. Several homes in the hills have been evacuated and many have been displaced. What you have to take into consideration is that brush fires are a very natural thing here in So Cal and though it might seem like the wilderness and such are forever destroyed, it's really just the chaparral (small plants that dry up during certain seasons. They're indigenous to California and MEANT TO BURN, hence why it burns and spreads so quickly).

California brush fires are a typical thing that's dealt with along with the occasional earthquakes. The problem is many people don't take the chaparral into consideration when they build homes (i.e. clearing it, or hiring a team of goats to graze it all down from time to time). Thus many homes, particularly very expensive ones, go up really quickly when a brush fire occurs.

If you don't believe that these things are meant to happen, check the area about a month after a major fire. The hillside's completely covered with flowers and other sorts of plants that only bloom after a burn. Their seeds are constantly "hibernating," if you will, in the soil and fires awaken them.

While these fires are spreading pretty wildly and three of the major ones in the area are linking together into one giant burn, this isn't near the crisis that it might be. The Drudge Report has been billing it as "Hell Comes to Malibu."

Malibu has been on fire many times before. It'll be fine.

From what I hear, though, San Diego has been suffering a few losses. Part of the San Diego Zoo was affected in that they lost a condor breeding facility.

More details as they arrive. In short, we're OK over here.

I'm hearing reports that "millions have been forced to flee," which sounds rather vague and with nothing really backing it up.

If I sound like I'm completely downplaying what's going on, my apologies to those who might have been affected. But seriously it's nothing horribly out of the ordinary here.

At this point, for the safety of residents whose homes are under threat, many houses have been evacuated in the past couple days (according to several news outlets, at least 500,000). Problem is when you get things like this in incident reports: http://old.rimoftheworld.net/incidents/3623&p=19

If the link changes, seeing as it's constantly listing what's going on in that area, posted 10/22:

15 to 20 hispanic males in the back of a truck appears to be getting ready to loot; SO en route

Thankfully of the people I know of who've been evacuated, their homes were spared from the fires and saved by the firefighters.

The state and federal government are bringing in firefighters from around the country to fight the 16 wildfires going on right now. Supposedly they started around the Mexican border and leaped all the way up here.

The death toll as of today: 6.

While the fires are still not contained, aside from property damage there hasn't been anything too severe.

EDIT: I should also add that while I was in L.A. yesterday, the sun shone red in the sky through all the haze. Pretty surreal.

EDIT 2 (10/26 5:17 p.m.): I just got out of class and checked the news online to discover they've arrested one arson suspect and another one was shot dead.

Also, this isn't my town or my neighborhood, but on occasion, for the past couple days this is what the sky looks like over my house: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-fires-users22oct22-pg,0,4637161.photogallery?coll=la-home-center&index=29

Here's a current map of the fires and their locations: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-102407-me-fire-g,0,1346215.graphic?coll=la-home-center (Most of us who post on the board are in the Long Beach area and are spread out between there are Los Angeles--they're well within 30 miles of each other. As you can see those areas are relatively safe from the fires as they tend to be). The map also shows that a few of the fires have been contained and things are getting better.

I gotta agree with True. I'm quite proud of you doing the right thing. If you like her that much, you want to see her happy. Hell, someday she might realize how awesome you were about all of this.

You're young, so don't stress not getting the girl you've been wanting too badly. Eventually when you get older and look back at the feelings you have now, you'd be greatly amused.

A friend once told me never to put too much stock in shoulds (like "I should be going to college," "I should be practicing my art," "I should have been famous by now," etc). Shoulds create guilt and guilt is bad for the soul.

Now whether you believe in a soul or not, that's your theological belief. Replace it with mental health if you must; either way, guilt can destroy a person.

If you want to go into the military so badly, look into why your family is against you enlisting. You said yourself that there is a chance of death and many people do make the mistake of joining the military thinking they'll find glory in it. The marines are often the ones who go into battle after all.

But look at the positives, you get paid pretty well, you're serving your country, and there are a lot of military benefits.

Just read into it more. Talk to other who've been in the military. If it's really what you want to do then "Semper fi," jarhead. You have to consider if it's what feels right for you and seeing how bad you're feeling about it, it seems it's what your heart wants.

Now which is more important to you, your dreams or what your parents think of you? You want them to be proud and not drop loads of guilt on you, obviously, but is that little voice inside of you that's screaming to be heard more painful than the guilt?

MANY parents out there don't want their children to enlist for the same reasons your parents can give. I'm sure most of the people in active duty have folks who insisted they shouldn't have joined up, but when you talk to their families practically all of them boast about their child in the service, of how proud they are and so on.

You're not lying to your parents, you're lying to yourself. Tell your parents about your ache to serve. Like I said, look into it more and try to educate your parents on how the pros outweigh the cons. You have to take control of your life sooner or later.

Supposedly more people are born in November than in any other month. 9 months before that was Valentine's Day.

My dad made the comment a couple months back about accountants having babies in January because they're so relieved by tax season ending in April. My dad's an accountant. I was born January 14. Tax season usually ends around April 15. I shuddered to myself when I made the connection (Don't know why I did. We all had to come from somewhere. )

EDIT: I just remembered that Zoso's mom is an accountant and he was born near the end of January. He was 2 weeks late.
