I suppose I have. Seems to happen with a lot of my blog posts, and I have written several things in the past for an ex who never read anything I wrote.

Have you ever found phone numbers in your room, purse, wallet, etc, that don't have names (or have a name but you have no recollection of who they are), and called them just to see who it is and why you have their number?

Seems like some aging hipsters really should with how badly they try to act like they're still in their 20s. Don't really know, though.

What would you be doing with your life if both of your parents were killed in an accident shortly after you were born? (My apologies if this is a sensitive topic to you).

Usually this would go in my Crazy little blackhole, where memes like this go to die, but hey, it's new year's. It's a current event. May as well talk about your 2008 here.

Happy new year, y'all.

2008 AWARDS

LIFETIME SERVICE AWARD (LONGEST FRIEND)
- Based on people I've still been in contact with, looks like Patrick. Haven't hung out with anyone from high school this year, although I did run into James at a church carnival. <3.

NEWCOMER AWARD - NEWEST FRIEND?
- I guess the absolute newest is Michael (from American Studies), or perhaps Rob (my history prof).

LOW POINT OF THE YEAR?
- There were only a couple low points and both were temporary--one was my initial rejection from university (I fought it and was accepted a couple days later). The other was worrying for a month if I passed my stats class or not. I indeed passed it and with that transferred.

BEST HOLIDAY?
- Dia de los Muertos. It's the only holiday I really celebrated aside from putting forth the effort to decorate and put together presents for Christmas.

SONG THAT WILL ALWAYS REMIND YOU OF 2008?
- There's several songs, actually and for varying reasons:
1) "Caramelldansen" -- because it practically took over AX this year.
2) Beyonce's "Single Ladies" -- with how much the video got passed around and how great the spoof on SNL was.
3) "Drink 'Til I Die" -- Brandon and I got to be in the video and party hearty with the Boggards.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR
- Either Flogging Molly's "Float" or Boggards' "Anchor Management."

BEST DECISION MADE THIS YEAR?
- To fight my way into a university. I made it.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR 2009?
- There aren't any major ideas on the table just yet. I'll still be taking classes at CSUF, and Brandon and I might do a road trip to North Carolina for a wedding (pending that it doesn't run the same time I'm in classes).

MOST STUPID IDEA WHEN DRUNK
- Didn't get drunk this year, or at least I didn't get buzzed and do something dumb anyway.

TV SHOW OF THE YEAR?
- House M.D. Sorry, Heroes, was fun while it lasted.

MOST LOYAL FRIEND?
- Brandon will probably always win this by default.

BIGGEST CHANGE OF THE YEAR?
- It's either that I got my license or that I started at CSUF. Probably more the latter.

BIGGEST DUMBASS AWARD?
- And the Oscar goes to... *Cracks open envelope* The guy at Comic-Con who camped out for the Heroes panel, waited in the hour-long Q&A line (which sat on the floor throughout the episode screening) to say, "I camped out all night! Woooooo!! But uh... I've never seen the show, can you, uh, explain it to me?" when there were 2 minutes left for questions.

Then again most of a questions were really, and I mean, REALLY stupid or irrelevant. Or otherwise pulling some bullshit to get hugs and autographs.

BEST NEW THING YOU DID?
- There were several really excellent new experiences, and it's hard to choose a singular, fantastical one--walking around the iced-over riverbed with Brandon and Pat, visited several new places in the Bay area with Lee and Brandon, volunteered for Wizard World (and met so many great people, some of them famous), and I tried new foods and explored Arizona.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS KEPT?
- I actually managed to keep all the ones I made: I got my license, got into a university, read over 100 books (the goal was at least 10, though most of them were graphic novels), visited at least one museum/historically-significant locale a month, etc.

MOST OVER DONE NEWS STORY
- Honestly, the election and everything about Prop 8. I h8ed it too, yes, but it got to the point that the overwhelming amount of protesting was silly. Why weren't most of these semi-riots, statements, and celeb-filled, Internet musicals happening BEFORE the election when they could have made a difference?

DRINKING BUDDY OF THE YEAR:
- Brandon pretty much wins this one, though it was really super drinking and singing around the campfire with the Boggards.

BEST MOVIE FOR 2008?
- I didn't really hit the theaters much this year, but for me it'd be L: Change the World and CJ7 (saw it for free and with a Q&A with Stephen Chow afterward).

WORST MOVIE OF 2008?
- Cloverfield.

BEST CONCERT OF 2008?
- KROQ Weenie Roast. Metallica headlined, with Flogging Molly, The Offspring, Bad Religion, Pennywise, Atreyu, Scars on Broadway, The Raconteurs, Seether, Rise Against, and a few others (I can't remember any of the others' names really, but I think the Flobots were one) opening for them. Metallica actually played "So What"

Apocalyptica and Band From TV's shows tie for second.

BEST PLAY/STAGE SHOW OF 2008?
- Amazingly we didn't see many shows outside of the usual Renaissance faire stuff, so by default the title goes to the "Flying Spaghetti Monster's Holy Mug of Grog."

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FOR 2008?
- Oh my, there are several for this year. It'll have to be the three Arizona trips B-Ran and I took, as well as the days I spent with Lee be it down here in SoCal or in the Bay Area, Brandon's and my Axis Powers weekend, Marty's birthday at the unbelievably expensive yet sinfully tasty Moroccan restaurant, running about the L.A. Convention Center looking for hand sanitizer for Jeph Loeb, the massive grunion run, moon cakes, Koroneburg sunburns, Terra Cotta warriors scaring my mom, the HMS Bounty, M&M's wedding, 60-cent corned beef sandwiches, and Mythbusters.

BEST LAUGH FOR 2008?
- Looking over Cake Wrecks with Brandon.

WHO DID YOU SPEND VALENTINES WITH?
- Probably Brandon, I don't remember. It's B-Ran by default since he lives here.

WHAT DID YOU DO FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY?
- Went to the Vasquez Rocks (where Star Trek and lots of other things have been filmed) and did fighting poses with Brandon.

BEST RELATIONSHIP?
- Well, I guess Brandon wins that again by default. Nearly 5 years, and counting.

WHAT WERE YOU FOR HALLOWEEN?
- A band photographer. Brandon's band played a house party full of preteens.

RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR?
- Hard to say. Guess it'd have to be Marrakesh.

BOOK OF THE YEAR?
- The whole Usagi Yojimbo series. All 23 books thus far. Read them just before Comic-Con.

I sure do, but I haven't really seen that many. Only some of the essential Clint Eastwood flicks, The Magnificent Seven, and Shoot-Out at the O.K. Corral.

I catch every new western that's made these days, though.

It's funny how several people I know have listed copies of the Watchmen graphic novel among their Christmas presents this year.

It's hard to tell with how much of the same footage keeps cycling around.

Wonder if WB finally got anywhere in the case against 20th Century Fox who's insisting the movie will not be allowed to be screened.

I figured Fox just waited until WB had it in the can to screw them over. To be fair, because they indeed have the rights, they probably should get a cut (or at least just enough to grease the wheels so WB can release it when they've promised to).

I'd say taking to worrying is my worst and most prevalent habit. I worry A LOT. I'm worrying now about university registration and if I might have a GI tract problem.

I'm a notorious hypochondriac. I constantly think my body has something wrong with it.

I suppose for things up the alley of nail-biting, though, I'm always drawing skulls in the margins of my notebook during class.

You had me worried there.

According to an article posted 9 hours ago, though, the numbers were exaggerated. They laid off "around a dozen" and that's about a fifth of their company.

Article

Still I really should back up my stuff, mostly the pictures and a few memories. But I'd like to save a lot of Nifty-SoCal's stuff.

Just wish I knew how.

It's really weird how some of the fandom communities are already getting posts from people acting like LJ's about to self-destruct at any moment.

Example

But, seriously, LJ wants you to back up your stuff on their site? What if it super-novas and takes everything with it in the resulting blackhole?

Anyway, if the ol' horse is indeed shot, I really don't know where I'd go for my miniature "social networking" kick.

Might end up at Blogspot for shits and giggles. Now if only I could remember my account name and password over there.

Constantly! I consider just sitting in front of the TV for several hours on end and bad day. If I've got nothing better to do, I look up something that might be happening today and go to it.

To be honest, I think this could stomp out a Harry Potter sequel were they placed on the same weekend; however, Watchmen would definitely not make as much money if it were the top thing coming out one weekend.

I suppose if it comes out alongside a bunch of romantic comedies and a kids' flick about the latest American Idol, it would rake in pretty big.

Off topic, it's hilarious that Spirit's not doing so well. $9 million on its opening? Ha!

FUCK CANCER.

That's it. I've had it.

My mom has had three lumpectomies since I was born. THREE. That's three cancerous lumps removed from her breasts. Then two years ago she underwent radiation therapy after the third one was removed.

Today she tells me she's found another lump and she's fucking scared.

I just spent the last 3 hours trying to make her feel better because she feels she's not getting any support, especially since my dad rarely shows emotion in these sorts of situations.

One of my best friends just moved away two days ago. I don't know how much more I can take right now.

Found another one.

I'm feeling a bit heartbroken at the moment, so I'm doing this to ease some mental tension else I may risk a breakdown.

1. Was 2008 good for you?
- In general, yes.

2. What was your favorite moment of the year?
- There are far too many moments that I can't really summarize. The first one that springs to mind due to its being more recent would probably be the massive drinking party with the Poxy Boggards, shooting a music video.

3. What was your worst moment of the year?
- My deepest pit of anguish was my initially being told I wouldn't be going to university over a lame technicality. As mentioned, I fought it and got in.

HOWEVER, the mood I'm in sort of hurts much more, and since it's a 2009 issue you'll have wait 'til the '09 meme.

4. Where were you when 2008 began?
- At Rick's house. First time in a while that it wasn't Marty and Becky's house in a while.

5. Who were you with?
- Brandon, Lee, Rick, Marty, Becky, Rey, Dee, K.C. (I think), and I'm quite sure after that.

6. Where will you be when 2008 ends?
- I was at Marty and Becky's with roughly the same people plus a few others.

7. Did you keep your new years resolution of 2008?
- Yes. All of them.

8. Do you have a new years resolution for 2009?
- At the moment, it's to try/learn something new every day. And I've kept it thus far.

9. Did you fall in love in 2008?
- Relationship-wise, I've already got a loverboy. But in general, I think I've fallen pretty hard for House. I'm not much of a TV person, but I had seen several episodes here and there since the show started. I just never got so hardcore into it before.

10. If yes, with who?
- See answer to #9.

11. Are you still in love?
- With Brandon, yes. With House, totally.

12. Did you breakup with anyone in 2008?
- Heroes. It still has visitation rights on Monday nights this year. Pending that it doesn't misbehave itself too much, I may or may not go to its Comic-Con panel later this year.

13. Did you make any new friends in 2008?
- I'd say so, but more that I got friendlier with people I'd met in '08.

14. Who are your favorite new friends?
- Well, for new, I guess it'd be my university professors for history and American studies. I spent a lot of time talking with them after classes.

15. What was your favorite month of 2008?
- They all had something special, but the ones that had the most going on were early January (San Fran trip), the middle and end of March (Wizard World, Arizona trip, etc), the middle of April (concerts week), July (Anime Expo, Comic-Con in San Diego, etc), and November (Dia de los Muertos celebrations, Boggards video shoot, Lee in town, Thanksgiving Arizona trip, etc).

16. Why this month?
- They're explained.

17. Did you travel outside of the U.S. (or your home country) in 2008?
- Not this year. Brandon doesn't have a passport.

18. How many different places did you travel to in 2008?
- Well, for traveling longer distances--San Francisco, San Diego, and several parts of Arizona (three times in 2008). Otherwise I mostly hung around L.A. and the surrounding areas.

19. Did you miss anybody in the past year?
- I was missing James. Then I unexpectedly ran into him at a church carnival. I still miss him though, as we haven't hung out since. I also miss Lee since I never see him nearly enough any more, and now I guess I'm currently really missing Christina and Jayne.

20. What was your favorite movie that you saw in 2008?
- Probably L: Change the World, when it comes to new movies.

21. What was your favorite song from 2008?
- From 2008? As in it's gotta be new? I don't really listen to new stuff outside of what might come out of bands and artists I like. So with that, I guess it's "Requiem for a Dying Song" off of Flogging Molly's new album.

22. How many concerts or plays did you see in 2008?
- Actually going back over my calendar with things I actually remembered to write down-- Concerts: 7 Plays: 1 Band shows (bars, etc): 20

23. Did you have a favorite concert in 2008?
- I guess that's be the big KROQ show with Metallica, Flogging Molly, Bad Religion, Pennywise, The Offspring, etc.

24. How many books did you read in 2008 and what was your favorite book?
- I read 116 books. Mostly graphic novels. I don't really have a favorite.

25. How many people did you sleep with in 2008?
- Just Brandon. Sometimes my cat, Miko, curls up between us.

26. Did you do anything you are ashamed of this year?
- Nothing really. I mean, I didn't generate any regrets. Many had an embarrassing moment here or there that I don't remember.

27. What was the biggest lie you told in 2008?
- While I'm sure I'd lied in the last year, I seriously can't think of anything big. Or anything juicy enough to tell.

28. Did you treat somebody badly in 2008?
- If I did, I'm not aware of it and it wasn't on purpose.

29. Did somebody treat you badly in 2008?
- No one. If anything, the occasional rude driver while I'm out on the road.

30. What was your proudest moment of 2008?
- Getting into a university, getting my license, and teaching Brandon how to dance before his aunt's wedding.

31. What was your most embarrassing moment of 2008?
- I'm not entirely certain as I can't quite remember any that involved me. I was a bit embarrassed when I introduced a couple friends to another set of friends at Comic-Con and they didn't quite mesh well. Mostly involving a friend of mine and her son being jerked around by this friend of one of the other friends I was hanging out with. Yeah, that explanation's not confusing at all.

32. If you could go back to any moment of 2008 and change something, what would it be?
- I'd have volunteered to watch Jayne more. Not that I wasn't really busy and couldn't do it from time to time, but I wish I'd spent more time with her and Christina before they left.

33. Where did you work in 2008?
- Other than going to school, babysat Jayne off and on, and roadied and took pictures for Voidcrush.

34. Favorite TV shows(s) of 2008?
- House, Mythbusters (watch it online since I don't have cable, and Heroes, I guess. I've been watching Sarah Connor Chronicles with Brandon, but I wouldn't really count it as a favorite.

35. Favorite New Band(s) of 2008?
- No one new. I started listening to a lot of old stuff lately.

36. Favorite New Food in 2008?
- It's a toss-up between Peruvian and Moroccan. I also suddenly discovered how much I love flan.

37. Favorite Drink in 2008?
- I rang in the new year on a bottle of sangria. For non-alcee, it's probably be Brandon's aunt's peanut butter chocolate shakes.

38. Favorite Place in 2008?

- There's a few, but Sedona was really great, especially doing the iced-over river hike with Pat and Brandon.

39. Favorite person(s) to be with in 2008?
- Playing favorites with the old friends/family now? For shame anonymous meme-writer.

40. Favorite person(s) to talk to in 2008?
- Everyone with a listening ear, I guess.

41. Favorite trip in 2008?
- Probably the Bay area trip in early January where Brandon, Lee, and I ran all over San Francisco and San Jose. San Diego doesn't really count since we were only there for Comic-Con, and the March trip to Arizona was probably the best of the three.

42. Favorite new stores in 2008?
- Clear Creek and Fresh & Easy.

43. Hardest thing you had to go through in 2008?
- There wasn't really anything particularly difficult other than a rough patch when I thought I might have cancer. I thankfully don't.

44. Most exciting moment(s) in 2008?
- Hard to tell. The most consistently exciting would probably be Comic-Con.

45. Funniest moment(s) in 2008?
- Though there were many, for some reason when Brandon and I were looking over Cake Wrecks together, we laughed and laughed 'til our cheeks and sides were sore and were coughing to no end. Then we'd laugh some more.

The wristwarmers I'm knitting. The yarn's all different colors and kinda fuzzy. Not much else around.

If you could do any drug without any consequences (getting arrested, brain damage, etc) what would it be and why?

I'm currently going through:
- Memories of my Melancholy Whores (Gabriel Garcia Marquez)
- Place of Dead Roads (William S. Burroughs)

I've been spending more of my vacation time knitting, though, since I can do that and listen to things like re-watching the first two seasons of House.

I still need to read Gaiman's The Graveyard Book, especially since I bought a first edition copy over Thanksgiving break. I guess I'm just waiting for it to come out on paperback because I don't want to mess up the copy I've got.
