So the hole has a temporary patch on it. The news is cheering and hailing it the beginning of the end for this whole disaster. So what are they going to do about all that oil in the water?
This has been quite an ordeal, obviously. What are your thoughts on it? |

Originally posted by vince_rigle Yeah, I read that one a few years back. I love the fact that he was effectively killed off by the readers. But the little bastard's back from the dead, especially with character resurrection being so typical in comics. I figure Barb's beating was still pretty high up there since she was this beloved character (a kick ass superheroine at that), and she's never gotten out of that chair because she was ruthlessly beaten. Following said pummeling, stripped, photographed, and then the pictures were flashed at her father as torture as further insult to injury. As for Year One (are we talking the one by Frank Miller?), I seriously don't remember much of it other than Gordon having an affair. |

All right. How might someone teleport?
Nightcrawler is apparently able to transmit himself through another dimension, and Hiro Nakamura does it by concentrating really hard. Goooooooo, science olympians! |

Meet Jesse Slaughter (real name Jessica Leonhardt). She's 11. And she loves telling you how much prettier and more popular than you she is and that you should get AIDS and die.
She's become the target of plenty of internet hate. It's destroying her life, guys. Her daddy's pretty mad that all you jive haters have been talking smack about her. He's been backtracing all your e-mails, and the cyber police are on their way. |

All right, after finishing Cacophony, I think I'd say that's my current favorite in terms of Batman graphic novels. To avoid spoilers, the talk near the end between Joker and Bruce is what sells it for me.
One of my least favorites has been "Batman: Child of Dreams." It felt like such a Mary Sue story. |

Originally posted by Phoenix For me, it wasn't so much the villain being great (as there are several in it) as it is how Batman interacts with them. He absolutely hates one here, he'll cooperate with another there, he'll... well, I'll leave that there. I'll just say that I wasn't REALLY impressed with the final fight so much as the way the story flowed and how the characters had multiple levels of interacting. There was depth as opposed to the usual: Villain: "I'm a villain and I'm doing bad things just because." Batman: "Not on my watch!!" BANG! ZOOM! POW! SPLOOSH!! Villain: "Foiled again! I'll get you one day Batman!!" (Last edited by Rogue on 07-17-10 01:03 PM) |

There's a fuckton of midnight release parties for the 6th book tomorrow night. I've already got it pre-ordered from one of my usual places, but I may check out the festivities.

If you guys have a library nearby, it's likely they'll have them. That's how I read the first 5 books over the years as well as over 300 other graphic novels. Even if your library doesn't carry them, you can do an inter-library loan.
So much better than reading them at the store. _¬ |

Originally posted by Elara Oh. Well, they're Finnish. I got to see them at the Roxy a few years ago with Marty and Becky. Awesome performance, lots of energy. I was just bummed they didn't play "The Path." |

Yeah, the second video was posted by her directly onto her YouTube channel, which has been deleted. I guess because it didn't feature her father yelling as much or her sobbing so loudly, no one else has reposted it.
It's available in this video which features all three. Or you can just watch the third one re-enacted with Legos: |

The production company keeps putting out remixes with more scenes from the movie.
It's getting to the point that I'm wondering if there will be anything we haven't seen by the time this reaches the theaters next month. |

Originally posted by Xeios From what I've been reading about the situation, she was sent "death threats" (from 4Chan... ) and pizzas were sent to her house. There was apparently talk about sending call girls off of Craigslist, but that apparently didn't happen. Other than there being videos remixing her and her father's fit in the last video, it's nothing more serious than her saying "I'll pop a glock in your mouth and make a brain slushie" or "get AIDS and die." I guess how this really all started was that this girl was claiming she was molested by the singer from emo/scene band Blood on the Dance Floor when she was 10. This apparently escalated into her creating the video about all of the people annoyed by her antics. |

I've only read the first three books. Pretty good so far.
I like the Alan Moore references in the first book. |

I'm trying remember what I was doing and saying when I was 11, and all I come up with was a nerdy kids reading about Greek mythology, obsessing over Xena and Hercules, reading comics and getting made fun of by all the boys, who years later drop by her table at Denny's to say they're sorry about the way they treated her.
I don't think I started cursing until I was a freshmen in high school. On top of all this, her mom's taking her to get her lip pierced and then dye her hair in one of the most despised styles (which is subsequently more popular among redneck kids). I swear the kids are growing up way too fast and becoming this... thing... and it's horrifying. |

Yeah, Flogging Molly's not metal either. They've been labeled Celtic rock or even Irish punk. Most of my favorite bands are different genres -- folk, cabaret, ska, metal, blues, different kinds of punk, bluegrass, big band, etc. My iPod would drive anyone crazy who found it.

I don't have any ink, at least not yet. Should I ever get one, I really don't know what it would be.
Back during the first season of "Heroes" I'd thought about getting the symbol on my right shoulder blade (where Jessica has hers), but that thought sort of died off. Either way, I know where I'll probably get a tattoo done when I decide on one -- at the last remaining shop from the Coney Island-ish days of Long Beach, back when the navy used to dock here and spend their shore-leave in what used to be an amusement park. |

As you're reading the books, I'm sure you might notice that Gideon (the final evil ex) is sort of kept a secret. He's always shown in the shadows and you never see his face.
But the trailers are very liberal with showing him ("I have no beef with you!" made my stomach hurt because it felt like they were giving too much away and the books haven't gotten to this final fight yet), even when it comes to showing weapons all the characters wield. There are still some things that haven't quite made it to the trailers yet (though they are hinted) and I really want to see these things come to life unspoiled. And hear fucking hear about the remix. They aren't quite music videos, and they've all been ending on bum notes lately. This is the fifth one they've put out. The one before it was about Ramona and it was such a downer (not to mention further exposing clips from the movie). |

I've heard that. Seems like more of the people I know who have tattoos have way more than just one. One of my friends just got her whole back done. There's video of her crying online and she's already going on about wanting to get more (this is her third one).

I laughed out loud in the library reading it. When you see him driving down the mountain, he's got this very Alan Moore look and then just as he's coming up on the bar it has a sign for "Moore Beer" or something like that. And then he blows it up.
His personality is also a lot like Moore's, since Moore hates people and seems to shy away from his fans. I'm sure he'd be happier living in seclusion on a mountain as well. |

Originally posted by Phoenix They actually haven't revealed if either are true yet. I'm still curious as to whether or not the last book will be reflected in the movie, or if the movie has its own ending. Bryan Lee O'Malley was involved in the production and may or may not have given the filmmakers the ending. We don't know. It might be like "Kick-Ass" which was released earlier this year. The script for "Kick-Ass" was penned with only a single issue out. While there were several differences between the book and the movie (Hit-Girl and Big Daddy's story is somewhat different), it was generally the same story, and Mark Millar was also involved in that production. |
