I've been watching A LOT of Storage Wars lately. And I've given Auction Hunters and Storage Hunters a chance, but they suck.
Storage Wars, being the original, just has more going for it. It's like a treasure hunting Antiques Roadshow with how the majority of the show focuses on the appraisals and what to look for in certain items. It's just so fascinating. Plus it's a group of people going to different auctions all around California, so I'm intrigued since they tend to frequently go to certain places for appraisals that I've been to. Auction Hunters is just two guys going around the country, going, "Yeah, we're the shit and we're totally winning all of these auctions out from under the hick locals," and then trying to sell everything they bought. It's Spike TV's copy-cat show, so what else is there to expect, I guess. Then there's TruTV's Storage Hunters, which is full of "drama" with people literally fighting in the hallways and it just sounds so scripted. It's supposed to be a group show, like Storage Wars, but it tends to just focus on this couple you just want to see fail. Yeah... I've got too much time on my hands. Read Sweet Tooth volume 3. It still continues to be one of the most disturbing series I've ever read. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

There are a lot more people in this really small cemetery (Eva Gabor, Natalie Wood, Mel Torme, Walter Mathau, etc). And while we were there, we were drinking these: We also went to a panoramic theater where we played with this really cute kitten in the backyard that had extra toes that made it look like it had mittens: Among the other things we did was walking around this shop that was full of random things like: And:

Fuck this thing never displaying right when it transitions to the next page. There's a phantom post from some years back when there was a glitch - your post wouldn't display despite your post count and the thread's going up.

Fuck that the steampunk con I was going to attend this weekend at the Queen Mary closed pre-registration early and without notice. I was only going to go Friday, but seriously jumping from $20 to $40 for a one-day ticket and then having us pay $15 for parking?! Then there's the hazy details on whether or not we might have to buy Queen Mary tour tickets just to be on the ship. Also fuck that the OTHER steampunk event that was going on this weekend was moved to another weekend ALSO without notice. Meh, at least it's happening at all for me. In reiteration to past fuck yous, fuck my aunt who once again proves to be the Greediest Bitch of the West. (Last edited by Rogue on 01-24-12 06:03 PM) (restricted) |

This thread doesn't get enough love. Granted I'm not exactly in a great place mentally, seeing as I'm currently watching my grandmother, whom I'm going to have to bathe in a few hours, but it's as good a time as any to count my blessings. She's sipping some tea I made for her and eating chocolate that was left over from the holidays.
|
My own throat is now really sore and I'm sipping some tea with honey. I can feel the cold coming on now. Funny how it's hit everyone else up 'til this point like it was saving me for last. I'm happy I got to spend the holidays with family I never really connected with, but seem to finally have. Happy to have spent it entirely with my parents for the first time in several years. I'm happy I have friends who get me (for the most part). I'm happy I did a lot of things on my birthday, and got to spend that with Brandon and my parents. Happy that Chef, though having spent a couple days in the hospital for a heart condition, is now home and resting and not dead. I'm happy I've got money in the bank for once.

Watched the first season of Hell on Wheels all the way through, even caught the last episode as it aired for the first time on Sunday night.
|
I'm finally starting into Carnivale, which I've been wanting to see since I first heard about it back in 2003. I just never had cable or a method of streaming it. So far so good. One of my interests is circus sideshows, and there are plenty of them in there.

I'm sick, I'm bored. Let's do this.
|
I've also been thoroughly distracted and left this open and come back to it from time to time throughout the past few days. What was the last... ...thing you ate? - Made myself a slice of toast slathered with almond butter and sliced bananas on top, which I sprinkled brown sugar on and caramelized with my dad's blow torch in the backyard. Told you I was bored. ...person you talked to on the phone? - Joseph, Brandon's brother, wishing me a happy birthday. ...person you e-mailed/private messaged? - Gina, I think. ...person you hugged? - Brandon. ...person you kissed? - Brandon. ...time you laughed? - This thing a few minutes ago: ...time you cried? - That would be while watching Up a week or two ago. ...movie you watched? - Went to see Hedwig and the Angry Inch with a shadow cast a couple nights ago. ...DVD you watched? - Young Guns II. ...video tape you watched? - *Checks VCR* Uh.. Ghost World, apparently. ...song you listened to? - I think it was Poxy Boggards' "Up and Away." Someone on Wikipedia used it for a salute to the U.S. Navy: ...book you finished? - Sweet Tooth volume 3. ...heart-to-heart you had with someone? - Yet again I answer: probably Brandon. ...person you met? - The new members from the Dread Crew of Oddwood. ...person who died in your life? - Merv. ...new food you tried? - Other than that thing in answer to the first question, on my birthday a few days ago had deer with mushrooms, noodles, and mashed potatoes. ...new thing you tried (event, action)? - Pet a polydactyl kitten. ...time you went around the house in just your underwear? - Not sure. ...time you weren't fully sober? - A friend's birthday party in December. Just drank enough to be slightly buzzed. ...you "geeked" out? - Drinking Flying Cauldron butterscotch beer while visiting the graves of Marilyn Monroe, Bettie Page, Dean Martin, Don Knotts, Mel Torme, Eva Gabor, Natalie Wood, and Bob Crane. It's days later since I started answering this thing and the answer is now reminiscing about Windows screensavers with Brandon. ...thing you read in the bathroom? - One of those organic gardening/cooking magazines in my parents' bathroom. ...bargain you made? - I'm not sure. I did a lot of grocery shopping this past week. ...thing you planned? - What to do on my birthday, I guess. It all went as planned: got peanut butter donuts, walked around Westwood and picked up butterscotch soda, then visited the cemetery with all the dead celebrities, then drove up to Pasadena to walk around the Pacific Asia Museum during their Chinese New Year Festival, then we went to the L.A. Arboretum and walked around, then went to this steampunk shop, got lunch at a Greek place in the Byzantine Quarter, and dinner was at a German place in Anaheim. ...award you won? - Nothing lately. ...piece of toast you had? - That thing mentioned in answer to the first question. ...present you gave? - The first season of M*A*S*H to my dad and a couple pictures I took last year developed and framed for my mom. ...porno you saw? - I seriously can't remember the last time I watched porn. Then again, I'm watching A LOT of HBO shows and my parents keep mistaking the moans in Carnivale for us watching porn. ...song you sang in the shower? - Still don't sing in the shower. ...song you had stuck in your head? - There's always something stuck in my head and yet I can't think of any of those songs right now. Actually, I guess you could say this scene has been playing in my head, on a loop, for more than a week: ...thing you marked on your calendar? - *Pulls out calendar* Looks like it was going to Dickens Festival with Christina and then getting dinner at Tio's Tacos, both on January 8. ...errand you ran? - Dropping Brandon off at band practice. ...drink you had? - Still nursing the large Coke from the barbecue place. ...cool thing you found? - Not sure. I guess, by the default I'll answer Bettie Page since she was the last grave I found on my birthday, and we didn't know she was in that same cemetery. ...time you brushed your hair? - Probably Friday night before heading off to Hedwig. ...person you talked to over AIM, YIM, etc? - I cannot remember the last time I used any sort of instant messenger, except maybe that thing they have on Facebook, and I only talk to Brandon on that thing. ...thing you bought? - Other than food at the barbecue place, that would be tickets to see the 10th birthday show of Rainbow Carnage. ...game you played? - I'm ashamed to say, but... the Storage Wars Facebook game. ...new place you visited? - The barbecue place. I'd been to the Long Beach location, but not the new one in San Pedro. ...thing you celebrated? - My birthday. ...dream you had? - For some reason I dreamt my high school contacted me to say they now require an extra English class and they retroactively applied it so I would be required to take it now, meaning I haven't graduated from high school and for some reason that meant my degree was forfeit. ...thing you dressed up for (costume/formal/etc)? - Dressed up in faire garb with steampunk stuff for my friend's Pantsless New Year's Eve Eve party. Made Brandon a kilt an hour before we left. ...website you visited outside of the board? - Yelp.

I wish I were as busy as the rest of you guys. My occupation has gone from student/intern/editor/journalist/photographer to grandmother's caretaker/occasional-band-photographer.
|
I get paid a few hundred bucks a month to watch my grandmother full time for the second half of every month. I feed her, bathe her, medicate her, and pretty much just stay in the house ALL DAY until my parents get home. The first half of the month she spends at my evil aunt's house. My mom and uncle are trying to figure out what good home there would be to admit her into where there would be trained caretakers for her round-the-clock, but the only decent one they've found is $5,000/month. The only money they would have been able to put towards that my EVIL aunt controls, at least controlled -- it's all gone because she managed to get my grandmother to sign it all away to her and she got the jumpstart on her inheritance by taking everything now and she's got a TERRIBLE gambling problem. So... yeah. I'm my grandmother's keeper these days. (Last edited by Rogue on 01-24-12 05:36 PM) |
