Put aside your loved ones and all that expected shit... we know you just have to go everyday with that one special person by your side, soooooo...

What food, band, color, website, activity, WHATEVER is it that you can't live without in your life? What are your vices, your obsessions? What do you live and breathe?

I personally NEED my spontaneity and geekdoms (comic books, etc), it's all of the things that I live off of and would drive myself nuts going without.

Seriously, while I was in Sacramento, I had missed new comics day before I came and so trooped out to find a comic book store only to return to hear that there were multiple tornado warnings in the area while I was out and about.

I also heavily rely on cons, faires, festivals, premieres, ANYTHING that gets me out of the house and around people that I have thousands of possible things in common with. Meeting people that know EXACTLY what you're talking about when it comes to your insanity rock the western world. Also they're just plain fuckin' fun for me.

Flogging Molly.

Hands down... I mean, I don't really have a favorite band, but I went insane at their last concert. I mean, I didn't start moshing or anything (moshing's a neanderthal passtime), but no, I couldn't calm down. I'd never been that excited for a band EVER and I was pretty damned giddy at Metallica.

OK, I know there are quite a few threads open on this topic, but I've decided to open one here for those that want to debate the craze or whatever.

Also inspired by the movie's debut many newsworthy events have happened that are definitely related.

A THOUSAND Star Wars fans will watch all six films back-to-back — ending with the premiere of new episode Revenge Of The Sith.

The £50 “Galactic Tickets” for the event are expected to sell out within minutes of their release on Monday.

The marathon will start at 7am on May 16 and end at midnight with the fans’ premiere at the UCI Empire in London’s Leicester Square.

Meanwhile, stars will gather next door for the film’s red carpet premiere at the Odeon.

Director George Lucas will be at the celebs’ bash.

Also in recent weeks, fans have started lining up in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, but the movie won't be playing there.

People actually started making T-shirts reading, "I lined up in front of the wrong theater for Star Wars Episode III and all I got was this lousy T-shirt."

People even started calling the payphone they were sitting by just to call them idiots... and yet, they're still standing outside of this theater.

Any thoughts?

You come across those stories every day. Some person did or said something stupid that ended up in the paper and next thing you know, everyone's talking about it and it becomes near urban legend fame.

Well this is no different, post stories you find of people just being dumb...

A bomb scare grounded a Qatari airplane at Beirut International Airport Monday, airport officials said.

Airport security officials said the Doha-bound Qatar Airways jetliner, an Airbus 320, had just taken off from the airport when a Lebanese passenger apparently joking with a hostess who attempted to put away his handbag told her it had a bomb that would explode if he touched it.

The hostess informed the captain who made the decision to return to the airport.

The plane's 99 passengers were evacuated and a thorough search of the plane was conducted. No explosives were found and passengers were to re-board the plane for their flight, said the officials, speaking on customary condition of anonymity.

The man was arrested, they added.

It's actually federal law now not to joke about any sort of terrorism or highjacking near the airport in any way, as I was informed on the way to one last week.

According to some of the fans, if they get enough people to do it, Lucas will plead with the theater to show "Revenge of the Sith" there.

It's EXTREMELY unlikely that he'll beg a theater of all things and to show such a movie...

No seriously, are people (especially geeks who are supposedly above the average level of intelligence) just this moronic?

Verizon CEO scoffs at technology hopes

Ivan Seidenberg derides wireless Internet projects and expectations of clear cell phone reception indoors.

By LOUIS HAU, Times Staff Writer
Published April 19, 2005

Can you hear me now?

Well, don't expect to if I'm indoors.

That was the apparent message conveyed by Verizon Communications Inc. chairman and chief executive Ivan Seidenberg in remarks published over the weekend that have left tongues wagging in technology circles.

In an interview published Saturday in the San Francisco Chronicle , Seidenberg seemed to suggest the company's wireless customers were becoming too demanding.

"Why in the world would you think your (cell) phone would work in your house?" he asked. "The customer has come to expect so much. They want it to work in the elevator, they want it to work in the basement."

Couldn't the company correct customer expectations by distributing statistics on how often Verizon's service works indoors or by providing more detailed coverage maps that show all possible dead zones?

Seidenberg said it wasn't Verizon's responsibility, the Chronicle reported.

Verizon owns and operates Verizon Wireless through a joint venture with Britain's Vodafone Group PLC. Verizon Wireless was the most highly rated wireless carrier in an annual subscriber survey published in February by Consumer Reports magazine.

The Verizon chairman also derided San Francisco's interest in building a municipal wireless Internet, or Wi-Fi, network.

"That could be one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard," he told the Chronicle. "It sounds like a good thing, but the trouble is someone will have to design it, someone will have to upgrade it, someone will have to maintain it and someone will have to run it."

Such comments carry some resonance in Florida, where the Legislature has been considering bills backed by phone companies that would complicate efforts by municipalities to offer Wi-Fi and other telecommunications services. (Wi-Fi networks planned or in operation in St. Petersburg, Tampa and Dunedin wouldn't be affected because those efforts are led by private companies, not local governments.)

Verizon spokesman Bob Elek acknowledged the company agrees with the spirit of the legislation but insisted Verizon wasn't lobbying in support of it.

As for Seidenberg's comments in the Chronicle, Elek argued that the newspaper "sort of sensationalized" his remarks.

Meanwhile, Seidenberg's words drew a swift reaction from numerous technology blogs.

"Verizon CEO flames Wi-Fi and demanding customers" declared www.makesyougohmm.com

"Shut Up And Pay, Peasant," blared a headline at www.corante.com

A blogger at www.mfli.net/blog laid out a more specific grievance: "If cellphone coverage can extend to subways in Europe, I should get at least 4 bars in a residential neighbourhood."

Let me get this straight... you actually expected your cell phone to work from everywhere? Whoa! What planet are you from?

Wow... that's one of those porn first names you change before going into the business.

Heh, everyone's names could actually work.

One where it backfired though: I asked my friend, Victor, what his porn name would be. After giving him the specifics of how to get it, he came back with Stupid 134th.

(Should anyone wish to sign the partition barring me from having children it is now up to 498 people.)

You know, that reminds me of this girl in a kindergarten class that my friend taught. Her first name was Imunique (pronounced, of course, as "I'm unique"). My friend got in trouble with the girl's parents for calling the the child "Niquie" (Nee-kee).

It also reminds me of a friend of mine who said he'd name his daughter "Majority" so that whenever anyone took a vote and said "Majority rules" it would imply his daughter's name.

Heh, there are thousands of ways to screw a kid up. What's more creative and pre-disposed than giving a hilarious name?

Yeah, I sent a pm to you, Xeo, about a few things... namely the difficulties in pegging IPs.

You might also want to disable the admins' abilities to read other people's pm's like on the last board. I mean it's an invasion of privacy for everyone else and I think we should just get rid of them altogether.

Found another one:

I've been signed off for the last hour. I came in, still signed off mind you, to see my name still signed in. Saw that the my activity was still going constantly.

I'm not sure if it's someone on another computer on my account, which is possible, but not likely. But it just seems that it's doing it when it shouldn't. Oh well...
