I never mentioned within the rules of that tournament how many people I would bring. We've got more fighters than you have... =D

Oh, Xeios, you should realize, simply because a group is 'new' to a place doesn't mean they're 'new' to everything, we're experienced, seasoned veterans from hundreds of different places and battles.

Besides, if we're not all that good, you'd be SLAUGHTERING us, right? You'd be winning against all of us, no matter the number right? Even if we bring 50 people? =D

OOC: This is a Training Facility for potential or new Shin-Ra members, those who wish to hone their skills, or brush up on their RPing/Simming knowledge.

Lesson One, setting. Pay attention, detailing the setting may not seem very important, but there are advantages and disadvantages to having the choice of an area. If you choose well, you can include hazards, and safe areas, depending on your style, method of attack, and the general overtone of the battle, some may choose a forest in the middle of nowhere, while others could prefer an urban, or metropolitian area with NPC's flooding the area.

IC: It was a crisp July morning, and the sun was out, there wasn't a cloud to be seen in the skies above, the new Shin-Ra Outpost bustled with activity, new ARMS recruits were going through various drills and battle exercises while SASC mechanics working on damaged ARMSlave units. Company executives, and representives could be seen here and there, surveying the operation, observing the form and moral of the men.

The Outpost Complex was spread out over 4 or 5 kilometers, with buildings both on the surface and underground, the Command Center, and the Construction Yard were located above ground, those buildings having been the first constructed apon arrival. Reno slept in the Command Center again, at his desk as usual, he was always up late, drinking and planning, planning and drinking, his job was never done, whether he be awake or asleep. He was snoring, face buried in a pile of paper work, an empty bottle of Chivas Regal still clutched in one hand.

"Oooooh... Tifa... Ha ha ha ha..." Muttered the sleeping CEO, his dreams obviously taking a turn for the perverted, but, surely, he'd be quite easily roused from his drunken slumber, should someone choose to wake him.

I would like to propose that the only valid attacks, defenses and counters will be those that one can explain and elaborate upon either in the post, or in OOC. Logically, and technically explained techniques and abilities will be the only ones allowed, with the inclusion of magic being that of an explained art, rather than a mysterious catch-all for things people can't explain.

I understand different people use magic in different ways, but logic, and knowledge can be applied to anything, if you make the effort.

--

The Rule: No one shall use anything they cannot explain, define, or reason about in a battle, whether it be armour, accessories, items or any other substance/process/material that directly affects or changes the outcome, or flow of the battle.

The Reason: As of right now anyone can use anything or do anything simply because they say so, this rule would prevent people from using rediculously ill-explained and ill-concieved attacks that are unblockable because it's stated so in the description in the attack, rather than the process and/or effect/situation.

---

If you disagree with this rule, explain why, and think about why you object to carefully, consider all the facts, and then post. Intelligent Discussion of an issue works far better than simply flaming about it, we can all flame, some better than others, but the point remains, keep this civil.

It's not so really the rules, but the way they are implimented, they leave too much room open for abuse, so I came up with a rule to close that hole, the others make alot of sense, so it's not as if we're trying to say you guys are stupid or anything. Something was overlooked and abused until it became the norm.

I never said people couldn't explain it their own way, I even stated that different people used magic differently, but, I shall give you an example of the way magic shouldn't be used.

Guy: I love this sword, it's so strong, and all because it's magic, it can just slice through anything, and it's also completely unbreakable, even if the sword is damaged on the molecular level where strength, hardness and durability don't count.

Now an example of how a really good sword could be explained.

Guy 2: I love this sword, it's made from nano-mechanically constructed carbon, it's so hard that not even Diamond can scratch it! It's also damned near unbreakable simply because it's harder than Diamond, thus incapable of being damaged by anything inferior.

Now, this second guy explained WHY his sword is capable of being so strong, with a few additions, and a mono-molecular edge, it could be just as effective as the sword the first guy had. The only difference is, that it took a just little thought to come up with the weapon. Now, this obviously tells you that people who think harder, can do better, anyone is capable of thinking, some people just don't want to.

Edit: Now that I think about it, you could magically forge a weapon that way, it wouldn't be that hard to explain it logically, it'd just require more thought than simply stating it's properties rather than developing them.

Tell me the difference between these two paragraphs.

Guy 1: Guy 1 lunges at the enemy, swinging his sword at Guy 2, the sword was very powerful, and strong, because of the magic within it.

Guy 1: Guy 2 steps forward, drawing his katana from it's sheathe, it was a Masamune, an ancient sword of incredible power, the pure mastery and craftsmanship of it's maker had ensured it was the best. Forged in hellfire, and enchanted with magical powers, the blade remains ever sharp, enchanted to never dull, and never tarnish.

With a smirk and a grin, Guy 2 lunges forward, the razor sharp tip of his katana thrust straight toward Guy 1's throat at an incredible speed.

---

Obviously, the second sword had some logic to it, easily explainable in a Character Biography or a Profile. It's not hard to use magic, you just have to try.

Don't flame him, he's just a bit excited. Shanan, calm down, and think, don't act without thinking, whenever you do so, you will lose control.

---

I find alot of fun in trying to figure my way out of fiendish traps, and well-constructed attacks. They don't have to be really, really long, just a decent sized post, nothing much biggaer than a paragraph.

I never godmodded, I stated how dangerous my attack was, and I pointed out the only real way out of the move, cheap teleportation. Not to mention that my attack was powered ENTIRELY by her opening one-hit godmod. I used the power of her own attack to fuel my attack, my attack was almost flawless in execution and I stated so. If there is a way out, it is not a godmod, but there are rediculously cheap ways to dodge moves, such as teleportation.

Posted on 07-25-05 11:46 PM, in The Emerald Twilight Nightclub. Link

OOC: Now, this place is for Shin-Ra story arcs, it acts as a ‘hub’ for activities and plot twists, and a place to for characters to socialize ICly in order to develop a working history with another character. This isn’t a hangout thread, it’s an RP thread, and you don’t think you can keep up, don’t join, if you’re willing to try, do so. If you screw around with the wrong people in this gin joint, you could end with a broken bottle twisted in your face; my character doesn’t take too kindly to being harassed.

The Emerald Twilight Nightclub is located in Neo-Junon, the new headquarters of Shin-Ra Incorporated; the actual Nightclub itself is located in a skyscraper, on the top two floors and the roof. Being a Nightclub, adult subjects may come up, such as violence, drug use or sexual themes, and as such, if you are offended by any of these topics, do not post or read the content of the Roleplay.

Violence is allowed, people will be allowed to fight, within reason, people walking in with Flamethrowers or Vulcan Cannons will promptly be defeated, and humiliated for the enjoyment of all participating in the RP. If you pick a fight with someone who has friends, don’t cry if they all wail on you; don’t pick fights if you don’t think you can handle the consequences of losing.

Drug use, well, I don’t really care, if your character wants to shoot up in the bathroom, so be it, doesn’t make a difference to me.

Sexual themes, as with Drug use, I don’t really care, however, the Staff probably do, if you want to flirt, you can, if you want to kiss, fondle, groap and freak dance, I still don’t care. But having sex in the RP isn’t recommended, you’ll probably end up banned if your ability to describe these actions is anything above paltry.

I don’t believe in ‘signups’, if you want in, come in through the front door, coming through a wall will most likely result in a painful death at the hands of a pissed off Shin-Ra employee.

IC: People were everywhere, the whole place was packed, the music was loud, and drugged up 20-something executives and their floozies danced spasmodically under the strobe lights. However, only one floor up was the Executive Lounge, in which resided the owner of the club, and the CEO of Shin-Ra, Inc. Reno was wasted, completely rolling, he’d slugged back more than forty shots of Mako Slammers, heavy alcohol flavoured with highly processed Mako. The drink was good, but a good many refrained, apparently, drinking the spiritual essence of the Planet was morally and ethically wrong, but the CEO cared little for such trivial thoughts, and enjoyed his evening.

He was dressed as usual, in his trademark navy blue business attire, a wrinkled and dishevelled suit, his shirt was untucked, and his blazer unbuttoned. His hair was much like his clothing, wild and untamed, the crimson locks hastily fashioned into a small ponytail. Hunched over a table with a half-empty bottle of Chivas Regal, the CEO didn’t look like anyone special, but under the suit, and his mask of sanity lurked a demon of hate, always on the brink of being released. Only those who fought him in battle knew the true extent of his power.

“Oh my god!!!” Screamed a hysterical young blonde, as she approached Reno’s table. She was dressed in similar attire, however, her blue suit was well pressed and ironed, she obviously took far interest in her own appearance than Reno. She had gentle blue eyes, and a soft milky complexion, blonde bangs framed her face, and red lipstick coated her plump, pouty lips. The young woman was an Ex-Turk, by the name of Elena, she was Reno’s secretary now, having given up the fieldwork for a much closer working relationship with the CEO. Her big blue eyes shimmered in the gentle light of Executive Lounge, they were filled with concern for her co-worker, and boss, maybe this time his liver finally gave in, maybe this time he had succumbed to the poison he loved so dearly, maybe…

“Elena… Shut the fuck up… You’re making me sober.” Reno muttered, laggardly raising his throbbing head from the table, he looked up at her smiling drunkenly, and thrust the bottle of Chivas Regal at her, his eyes trained on her expectantly, he wanted her to drink.

“Reno… You know I don’t drink…” Elena stammered, her voice barely audible above the background chatter and music, yet, he simply pushed his arm at her again, placing the bottle in her hands.

“Jesus woman, live a little, you’re more conservative than Tseng, and that’s saying something.” Answered Reno, flashing her a half-cocked grin, the moment he did so, Elena’s resolved crumbled, she was cannon fodder for his smirk, as most women were.

“Okay… But just a little… You know how I get when I’m tipsy.” Elena said, sighing before taking a short swig, her raspberry lips coaxed the alcohol right from the bottle, and she swallowed, taking a considerable amount of time to force the smooth, yet ever so brutal whiskey.

OOC: Seeing as I cannot really be bothered writing much more about the place, this is where I’ll finish up. If you want to enter the Executive Lounge, and you’re not a Shin-Ra member, you’ll need to talk your way past the guard. Remember, anyone is welcome to join provided they try.

The simplest and most effective solution to this situation would be the most vicious and terrifying attack you could handle pulling off. I'll give it to you in three easy steps.

1. Obtain heavy metal object, an iron/lead pipe, or a crowbar even.

2. Get while he's bastard alone.

3. Apply the said heavy metal object to the bastard's legs without hesitation.

The fastest way to get out of the line of fire is to make people believe that you will not hesitate to kill them if they try to hurt you. Make them believe you've gone insane, and they're steer clear of you.

OOC: Vel only took up the challenge because I was banned.

IC: "What the fuck?" Reno exclaimed, appearing on a white platform above the battlefield, he had no fuckin' idea how he arrived, the last thing he remembered was hitting the sack at his apartment; a rare occasion for a lifestyle such as his. Then, before he could say anything more the platform dissappeared from under his feet, and he plunged down onto the stage below, landing with grace and acrobatic finesse. Having been so suddenly awoken from his slumber, the crimson-haired CEO wasn't too happy, he wasn't too happy at all. As usual, he was wearing his trademark outfit, the old Turk Uniform that had become such large part of his life that he never took it off, even when he slept, he was always ready to fight, always ready to defend himself.

Slightly out of his element, Reno was confused, he'd been summoned to some far off place, floating in the middle of nowhere, it looked like outer space to him, but he could breathe just fine, so that possibility didn't seem to likely.

Still, he wondered where he was, and for what purpose he'd been 'transported' there. Looking about the area, he saw a strange man dressed in odd armour, it looked as if it were made of some sort of metal, but he couldn't be sure, he'd never seen it before. Observing the man briefly, he came to the conclusion that his intentions probably weren't friendly. He quickly came to the descision that this man was most likely an enemy, probably someone who thought that cutting him from the Company would result in an easy kill.

"So, why the fuck did you bring me here?" Reno asked the stranger, already reaching into his jacket, searching for his smokes, it was then that he realized that they were back at his apartment, beside the bed on the floor, along with his lighter. "Oh, you fucking cunt... Didn't even give me time to grab my smokes, you're gonna pay for this one." Reno muttered, shaking his head. It was obvious that the rage within him was building to an almost uncontrollable level, NO ONE deprived him of his cigarettes and got away with it.

"Obviously, you brought me here for a purpose, you'll explain it, or I'll kill you, but I'll probably end up killing you either way, ya snot nosed little bastard." Stated Reno, his threat very, very real, and his intentions as clear as day. This idiot had woken him up in the middle of the night, and had teleported him to some sort of arena, most likely for some sort of battle, an incredibly foolish thing to do.

OOC: It's one of my bad habits, but it's also a character trait, so I'll cut down in the narrative, unless it's something... cool.

IC: Reno did nothing but smirk sardonically as the mysterious stranger gave him his whole schpeel about testing technology, and such. He really didn't care about the reasons, all he cared about was the fact he'd summoned him here for the purpose of killing him. However, he was far from afraid, this wasn't the first time someone had woken him up in the middle of the night with murderous intent. Having slept in his clothes, with everything he cared about aside from his precious coughing nails, he was extremely well prepaed for such a conflict.

When Alex stopped rambling on about crap, and took up a defensive stance, Reno narrowed his eyes, his whole attitude turning from relatively calm and aloof, to decisively focused, and concentrated, his cold emerald gaze never leaving his new foe for a moment. The moment Reno's opponent leapt into the air, his left hand darted for his black buisness jacket, nimbly pulling his slick black handgun from it's holster. Quickly, he took aim on his opponent, leveling his handgun at his enemy's chest, ready to open fire at any moment.

Milliseconds later, Alex brought his foot down again, sending the shockwave toward Reno. Most people would be quite confused by such an attack, but Reno wasn't like most other people, he'd survived these types of techniques, and learnt their workings. There was a very similar technique that was once used against him by an old foe, Futae No Kiwami. It worked very simply, it was a form of double strike, the first strike removed the resistance, and the second strike arriving a few billionths of a second later, dealing incredible damage to any target. When used with a foot, on the ground, this would create a shockwave, usually tempered by exploding earth, and a horrific shockwave.

Knowing that a shockwave could indeed cancel out a shockwave, he quickly raised his left leg and brought it down with an incredibly amount of force, and speed. Something as flawed as the human eye couldn't see the beauty of the technique, the awesome speed and agility required was simply beyond comprehension without the assistance of computers. The result of his patience was clear, as soon as the shockwave from such an incredible fast and well executed manouvre ripped through the concrete floor. Cracks rippled through the concrete arena like snakes through grass, and quickly met the oncoming shockwave. At the moment of impact, the superior shockwave, Reno's shockwave, exploded as it met with and halted the opponents attack, sending huge chunks of concrete flying across the entire battlefield. The majority of the peices flew toward the left side of the circular arena, right in Alex's direction.

The rapidly moving, large chunks of concrete were extremely heavy, the kinetic energy from the impact alone would smash a tank to bits. But that wasn't the worst thing, in all the confusion, hidden behind a wall of concrete, Reno had fired a single round.

That single round had an extremely High Velocity cartridge, packed with terrifyingly powerful propellant, and worst of all, it fired a Depleted Uranium Fletchete. Upon impact, it would tear through even the most powerful armour, through sheer speed and weight alone, punching a massive hole before disintegrating into pyrophoric dust.

OOC: He's retiring soon, so that's probably the reason he chose such a place for a fight.

IC: Leather on concrete, the clip-clap of his footsteps echoed loudly, his approach wasn't silent, nor was it supposed to be. Reno had been left a note, that note told him that an old "friend" was waiting on the rooftop, apparently, he had an "issue" that they needed to discuss. He'd chosen to take the stairs, rather than the service elevator, the extra time it took to get there gave him time to think, time to prepare himself for what he assumed would be a conflict.

Slowly, the stairwell door opposite Elyk was opened from the inside, and it was then that they first layed eyes upon each other. Reno was dressed the same as always, in his navy blue buisness suit, the uniform of the Turk, something he'd been a long time ago, in a far different era. Even in the darkness, his eyes could be seen, glowing that familiar emerald, Reno had undergone Advanced Mako Therapy, infact, he'd been the only test subject who survived... intact.

"So, you wanted to see me?" Asked Reno, letting his eyes travel up and down the stranger's figure, observing his temperment, his style of dress, and of course, most impressively, the sword he had on his back, it appeared almost as tall as he was, obviously, this man was of some strength.

"No doubt you know who I am, anyone who comes into this place does, but, you, I do not know who you are, and that's something fairly odd on this world, it's rare that I don't know who I'm looking at, and right now, I'm looking at you." He continued, cracking his knuckles, his cold gaze never leaving the stranger for a second.

"Who are you, and why are you here?" Reno asked coldly, as he stepped out of the doorway, walking toward Elyk, his crimson hair glowed the colour of blood under the pale moonlight, almost on fire, looking so alive as it whipped about in the gentle breeze.

OOC: Hmm, seems I neglected to mention what I was aiming at, oh well, that's a legit handling of the situation.

IC: Suddenly, a huge chunk of rock changed direction, flying at Reno, obviously, Alex had somehow managed to throw it back at him, however, this was not as large a problem as it seemed, instead of dodging, avoiding, or destroying the object, he had another plan. Timing his movements extremely carefully, he prepared for the oncoming rock with nothing more than the smirk on his face, and the gun in his hand. Just before impact, he spun to the right turning his body violently to peform an extremely fast roundhouse kick. His left foot hit the rock, knocking it back at Alex with about three times the force, however, this also served another purpose. Alex had just started firing, but, the rock, having been knocked back at the enemy, absorbed most of the bullets and was smashed to bits, the others simply missed Reno altogether.

As soon as Alex deactivated his jet-pack, Reno took aim, pointing his handgun directly at his foe, aiming for the center of his chest, at his heart. Just as Alex landed, Reno pulled the trigger, firing off one round. It was the same as the one that came before it, a DU fletchete, propelled by a High Velocity cartridge.

OOC: This means, I used the rock you threw at me, to deflect, absorb, and take the majority of the bullets you had fired, AND, I fired a DU fletchete at you just as you landed, just before you began charging your elemental creation system. I should note, the DU fletechet is self-sharpening, pyrophoric, and moving at speeds of over 3 times the speed of sound.

This may seem insulting, but I've already defeated you before, and you were no challenge, you take no effort to improve your style, or your explanation to match your opponent, nor do you have any qualms about blowing yourself up Cell style to win a fight.

There is no challenge, nor no reward to my fighting you, and I'm a busy man, so, your challenge is rejected. This isn't really supposed to offend you, but if you take offense, it's your own fault.
