He was angry.

Every time he managed to find his way back to this place, there was another gang of fools trying to assassinate, rape, kill, or just destroy the place. He could feel them..and already, he'd had enough.

The double-doors swung open, and he stepped inside.

Memories flooded his minds...the old Twilight...the old orginization...so much had changed, and yet at the same time, so little. The Nightclub, for instance...it looked almost exactly as it did then. Over six thousand years..and no one had bothered redecorating.

The bartenter half-sat against the wall across from the bar, obviously unconscious, maybe dead. The thick, lush carpet was littered with shards of broken glass, sparkling in time with the colored strobes in a hundred rainbow hues. And the bartender's blood was not the only that he smelt.

Just like the old days.

With a small sigh he walked to the bar and took a seat. A figure shrouded in a black cloak..mysterious perhaps, but hardly intimidating. At least, not at the moment. Not for roughly three seconds...then be became impatient.

The twinking glass pulled itself free and flew back from whence it came, shifting and melding until it became the mugs, shotglasses, and wineglasses it had once been. They came to rest along the scarred oaken length of the bar exactly as they had. More surprisingly, the bartender himself began a similar rewinding. He rose from his slouch and flew haphazerdly through the air, only to land on his feet in his proper place.

The man was completely unharmed.

He looked at Night, startling, confused, unsure of how to react. A flash of golden metal from beneath that cloak, and his mind cleared as if by some grand spell.

He had seen the badge set in the armor of Night's left forearm. It was strange..not quite the symbol he himself wore on his now-spotless vest. Even the title was odd..no such placement existed. Shin-Ra did not have a division known as NEO-Soldier..thus had no one who commanded it. But the rank..that was enough. The man who sat waiting for a drink must have been just below the Turks themselves..if not higher.

"Make Bomb. Triple."

The voice startled the bartender, who had been caught in yet another wave of shock..this one brought about by having a man of this stature seated at his bar. He moved with the grace that could only come from years of experience..a fluid grab for a glass, a quick flip of a bottle, an effortless slide into the Mako tap. It was only when he had set the drink down that the request sunk in.

"A...triple, sir? That much Mako...it'll kill a man."

Night did not reply. He simply picked up the glass and, in one unhuman gulp, emptied half of its contents.

Mako energy..tingling, heavy, surging..another memory.

Another drink, and he set the empty glass gently on the bar. When he asked for another, the bewildered bartender did not hesitate.

Night turned towards the interior of the club and rose to his feet, temporarily ignoring the fresh drink that awaited him. In a voice that boomed through the entirety of the twilight, a voice that was strong, deep, and frightening old, he said.

"WHO THE HELL HAS BEEN ATTACKING THE DAMNED CLUB?"

Posted on 08-15-05 02:58 AM, in Ancients Tournament: Desroth vs Night Link
A sudden stirring of ethereal energies, and that demon blade slipped back into existance. Desroth moved with speed that almost rivalled Night's own. A single cut, and the bullet was two. Another sword..another lightning movement..and it was no more.

"You use a gun? Those are no match for a well made sword and a highly trained swordman... No matter, really."

Night could only grin.

A few moments later the demonic being lifted his blade.

"Now this is better then a bullet..."

A thin yet incredibly powerful beam of energy flew from the swords tip. Desroth had aimed..where else..at his heart. Mistake number one. Assuming he had one.

Then there was mistake number two. Assuming that the weapon still pointed at his own chest was an average gun.

As the beam surged forward, a barely percievable change took place. No more than a quarter of one of those countless crystal fragments awakened with blue light. Still grinning, he pulled the trigger once more.

The flash was not blue, but crimson. And the round was not golden. In truth, there was no round at all. Instead a small orb had been released, a glowing sphere of churning reds. Deep..bright..erratic patterns that were impossible to follow. Chaos..the true anti-energy elemental.

Night's "bullet" collided with the energy stream..and both attacks halted. The Chaos Element began its work immediately. The countless "random" fluctuations spread and sought out the specific wavelengths of the beam. Some it counter-acted, some it drew inwards, pushing and pulling like erratic magntism. Each wavelength was forced this way or that, pulled this way or that, critically disrupting its core structure. To put it simply..the very energy the beam was composed of was being ripped apart.

The small, almost insignificant orb collapsed inward on itself in one last, defining moment..and took the beam with it.

Night extended his left hand, and two things happened simultaniously. A second pistol rose, seemingly of its own accord, from its hoslter on his left hip to slide into his waiting grasp...and a pair of sunglasses, sleek black frame and silver oval lenses, slid out from within his cloak and rose to rest over his eyes. As they slid in place, a small, hollow box snapped over an equally small computer chip set into Night's right temple, previously all but hidden by his silver locks. The connection was made, and the interior of the lenses sprang to life to blue light.

"Now what made you think that these were ordinary guns."

He pointed the first pistol upwards, the second down, and drew them in towards his chest. Slides facing, they moved together at the center of his body, one pointed up, the other down. He slid his left foot forward and brought his right back, his left shoulder towards Desroth.

The first stance of the infamous "Gun Kata".

The magazines slid smoothly out of the weapons. Without the runic enchantment to keep their weight in check, they fell to the ground and half-buried themselves in the earth. With the spell gone, each weighed well over 500 pounds. Two replacements appeared from beneath the seemingly infinite expanse of his cloak, and as they slid into place the differences became obvious. These golden rounds were slightly smaller, stacked three across and ten deep, and each bore what appeared to be two distinct runes.

With that finished Night activated the lenses. To anyone viewing them, it would have appeared as though a bright flash of blurred blue light passed across the surface in front of Night's eyes..of course, that was hardly the case.

Welcome to Infinity Interface 2445793669.0, Night. Ready to initiate commands.

"Activate Multi-Mind database. Open files 1,342,009,805,776,542,351,229,873,662,859 through 1,342,009,805,776,542,351,229,873,971,085."

Over three hundred thousand names flashed across the screens.

Database accessed. Files opened.

"Run program 'Gun Kata'."

Searching for program. Program found. Running Gun Kata. Activate probability scenario?

"Activate."

Target?

"Desroth."

Searching for spacial co-ordinates. Co-ordinates located. Accessing recorded data. Accessing energy pattern. Accessing physical traits. Scanning target...scanning target...

In the upper corner of the right lense a three-dimensional replica of Destroth appeared..in the bottom left, rotating models of both his blades. The centers of each displayed every action he had taken in the battle thusfar, sped up ten-thousand fold and framed with streaming lines of information.

Scan complete. Probability scenario complete.

Warning...

Warning...

Minimal information has been gathered on target. The following probability ratios have a 31% margin of error. Continue?

"Continue."

Click.

The backs of both guns touched. The telepathic access of data had taken less than a fraction of a second. Unfortunately for Desroth, however, Night was far from finished.

Intitating...

Initiating...

Advance Rune Pistols to phase one?

"Advance."

The two small blades that framed each barrel slid into the world, pushing away from their housings. They were joined by twin blades on either side, the metal of the weapons lengthening and extending to comply with some unheard command.

"Activate Junction System. Sync to point C-85309. Remove filters one through five. Initiate secondary charge."

Junction system activated.

Searching...

Searching...

Sync to point C-85309 successful. Filters removed. Secondary charge ready.

"Begin."

Within the display of the lenses a bright beam of blue light projected from the tip of each blade. He angled the right pistol towards Desroth..as he did so, the holograph-like model moved its head to the side. The black stones set within the weapons blazed with a sudden crimson glow..and he squeezed the trigger.

There was a single flare of red light from the weapons muzzle, followed by a roar much too loud for the single round.

Click.

The backs of both guns met once more. Their magazines released and fell to the ground.

They were empty.

(Note section:

First, the bullets. Each of the two runes embues the rounds with a different property. The first changes the physical structure of the round on an atomic scale. They are, for all practical purpose, indestructible. The second not only allows the metal to take a single energy charge, but enhances that charge tenfold. Unfortunately..that charge happens to be Chaos Energy. With the increase of power, any form of energy/magical defense will be punched through more or less instantly..i have explained why in this post. Even more unfortunately..matter is nothing but a different form of energy. It will have much the same effect on the structure of physical objects.

Next..the Gun Kata. The "beam sights" are not visible..the Lenses use the blades as reference points. You have a total of sixty rounds moving towards you at roughly 7,000 FPS..over mach 6. The Gun Kata program is used to determine your likely evasive maneuvers, and gives aiming suggestions accordingly.

To sum up..sixty rounds that are aimed not only at you, but damned near every spot you are likely to move to for an evasion.

Yes..he did fire all sixty rounds before the first had time to break the sound barrier. Hey..you managed to summon, grab, and use a sword before a projectile moving at 2,500 fps could reach you. No complaining.

One final note..this is something i failed to mention, but both Sparda and Kai can back it up. The weight of G.M. Alloy is 10,000 to 1, meaning that the equivalent of 1 lb of steel would weight 10,000 lbs. These bullets are damned heavy. Don't forget to take that into account if you come up with a way of your sword surviving.)

There's no point in posting a reply that no one is going to see, is there? Then his opponent pops back in just before the deadline. I don't know how many of you have full-time jobs..but those of us who do cannot spend every day watching this forum to see when they can post.

( Nice try, bub.

1: The guns are semi-auto. There is, quite obviously, a barely percievable delay between pulls of the trigger. I never stated that they were fully automatic..so there would have to be. Given the the speed at which the rounds were moving, and the fact that each was aimed at a different location, they would NOT collide. Hell..even if two were in the barrel at once. You have them both moving forward at the SAME SPEED.

2: Once again, you ignored the content of my post. That 31% margin of error was there for a REASON. It was yours to manipulate how you saw fit. You could have turned your shoulder to me when i aimed, taken a minor grazing wound, and called it a day. After all..the Interface took into account your EVASIONS, and i did not quote 60 specific targets. I left you with half a dozen ways out of that attack WITHOUT having to resort to a GM.

3: I wouldn't need to GM to end this fight. You've made that obvious. I could simply put you in a situation you don't know enough to get out of. Someone like Sparda would be able to avoid it..but you are no Sparda. Yes, it would be exceedingly unfair, and a display of bad sportsmanship..which is why it hasn't been done thusfar.

4: Once again..you assume far too much. You think that i am not aware of the possible domino effect? I know exactly how my version of chaos energy works..thus, i know how to counter-act it. If you'd like me to be specific..that particular rune dynamically re-structures the energy compisition of whatever it is engraved upon. As i said..it changes the physical structure of the round on an atomic scale. The Chaos Energy cannot disassemble the core structure of something that is in that kind of flux.

5:...why do i even bother posting anything? No one bothers reading it. " The magazines slid smoothly out of the weapons. Without the runic enchantment to keep their weight in check, they fell to the ground and half-buried themselves in the earth. With the spell gone, each weighed"....question answered. Oh...and once more, you assume. Night is a SHELL. A CONSTRUCT. The character you are fighting is a container for something far greater. He CAN lift that much raw weight. How? Unlike most, he doesn't have to rely on physical muscle. Hell..he doesn't even have that much of it. And as for the consequinces...the guns require external energy to charge. The first small blast of chaos energy drew on the Chaus Gauntlet. The rounds themselves were propelled through the use of the "Junction Sync" (a concept that i don't have time to fully explain at the moment). If i were to charge those weapons to 1/1000000000 of their maximum potential, i would suffer heavily if i drew on the physical energy of my "body". Finally...there is no recoil because there is no combustion. The rounds are propelled through a controlled release of energy that takes place directly behind them. This is also why they can move at these speeds. The amount of energy released is variable..and so is the accelleration of the bullets.

6: There's basically a small armory beneath Night's cloak. He carries upwards of 30 weapons at a given time...though most are secondary and stored away in other equipment. Yes...i have found a legal way of him carrying them. It is called effecient use of space. That's unimportant, however..you won't be seeing most of them in this fight. Hell..he carries most of them to play around with, if anything. As for the function of the cloak..it can "phase" certain sections of its physical fabric. Things can pass in or out as if there was no cloak at all. Given the rules in this place, that ability does NOT pass over to Night. Since it is not used to avoid attacks..it is legal.

7: I have stated several times in this forum that my character is the most effective sim design in the circuit. Did you think i was joking? He's more powerful than Zemonoth. You don't know that name..but if you were fighting with HIM right now, Desroth would already be dead. THAT is the key. He has that much power..and is being controlled by someone who knows how to USE it. Let me ask you something..are you a Star Trek fan? I used to watch the show for one reason..Q. He was one of the most interesting characters i'd ever seen. Completely omnipotent..yet he never just snapped the Enterprise out of existance. Why? Good writing. The producers knew how to have a character with that much power interact with normal humans. Same thing here. You complain about Night's power..but other than moving at a relatively high speed, how much of it have i used against you? Have i hit you with a kinetic wave strong enough to shatter the planet..or did i shoot at you (and give you a way out of the damned attack)? That was NOT an uber attack by any stretch of the imagination.

In closing..learn to read between the lines. Actually..learn to read the lines themselves. When you fail to notice things in a post..this is what happens.

I have to be at work in 15 minutes..so expect a reply late tonight.)

(I'm just going to post a whole new reply..the hell with editing. Besides..the info may be important later. See under my OOC statement for my IC reply.

Well...at least you calmed down a bit and aknowledged the fact that your questions were answered. As for ending the fight...i could pull out several of my power moves. I could hit you with a combination of energy vibrations that you simply do not have the theoretical knowledge to escape. Hell..i could throw ANY of my "Quantum" techniques your way. But..since you've gone back to being civil..that isn't going to happen. Oh, and by the way..i will ALWAYS answer ANY AND EVERY question you have, to the best of my ability. If you are unsure about something else in this fight, please do not hesitate to PM me about it.

And as for your power..do bring it on. Believe me when i say this..you have yet to see anything as far as Night is concerned. Now...let us continue. Leon...my apologies about your time distortion. You'll see.)

IC:

Night watched with honest surprise as Desroth brought up his earthen barrier. It was a pointless act. He could sense the power within the wall of stone..but it was nowhere near enough. And yet..somehow..each and every round was stopped cold.

A hidden portal. A gateway within the wall. A bend in reality. A rip in damned spacetime. He couldn't sense any of it...but it was no matter. If bullets wouldn't do the job..something else would.

He focused once more on his gauntlet. A single stone flashed...not merely pitch black, but somehow empty.

Two rounds formed within the chambers of the Rune Pistols. Despite his overwhelming strength, his arms trembled at the sudden onslaught of weight. So much so, in fact, that he did not move while Desroth rushed behind him. He could see the man even then, outlined in brilliant flashes of color while he carved his simple rune. Unfortunately for his foe, he saw with far more than his eyes. But he did not turn..did not attack.

Moving while holding two guns loaded with anti-matter rounds could be difficult.

Desroth doubled back, turned, and spoke.

"Thats all I got for now. Not much, I know, but thats all I could come up with. Lets see what you can do with those guns again, I think im catching on to your whole strategy with them. Keep firing to make sure I get hit no matter what I do just about. Then again, that could just be a generalization I have come to..."

Brave words for a man who was, in a few short moments, going to cease to exist in the physical world.

Night was going to aim. He was going to pull the triggers. He was going to kill his opponent in a single blow. But he did not. He did nothing.

Nor did Desroth.

The very air around them froze in place. The earth..the sky..all locked in the grip of a powerful magic.

The appearance of the man known as Leon was unexpected, to say the least.

For a moment, Night was unsure. Had he somehow missed the fact that killing was forbiddon here? Did those lethal rounds violate some universal law?

No. Leon had come to settle a conflict of a different nature. But as he spoke, Night did little more than focus on his straining arms..and his foe.

His plan had been a good one. Revert the matter that was known as Desroth back to its original form and be done with it. But as he stood "frozen", a new course of action became apparant. One far more amusing. As quickly as it had been summoned, the energy in his weapons streamed back into his gauntlet. Another stone sat near..milky white, an almost opal hue. Time.

It did not flash. It had no need to.

While Leon turned to address his foe, Night brought his right pistol to his lips.

"Shhhhhhhhh"

The crowd, almost dangeriously upset by the sudden halt of action, grew eeriely silent.

He brought his hand down.

He listened.

Ba-bum

ba-bum

Ba-bum

ba-bum

The strong, almost hypnotic rythem of Desroth's heart.

He waited.

"Thanks guys, you may speak while frozen now"

He did so. A single word..threatening perhaps, but little else, of course...after all..what power could a word hold?

"Die."

More than one could hope to know.

His voice was strange..it somehow echoed, as if reflected by walls that were nowhere to be found.

As the complex and exceedingly intricate waves of sound filled the arena, he waited for his foe to obey.

(OOC: Well..to start, this would be a good time to go into Night's immunities. He is uneffected by manipulation of time and reality. He is also immune to paralyzing magics/agents, poison, anything that induces sleep, and "silence" or similar magics. If you'd like specific reasons on any of these..PM me. As for the attak..

Power Word: Die.

After learning the subtle rythems and vibrations of an opponents heartbeat, the word "die" is spoken in a specific sound frequincy and wave. This sound fills the area as it expands. It is specially tuned to the opponents heartbeat, and bystanderds and thus uneffected by its terrible result.

To put it simply..it disrupts the heartbeat. The heartbeat becomes highly irradic..then goes into intense fibulation..then stops completely. Clothing and armor only serve to speed the process, as they resonate with the specific vibrations. Unfortunately..there is little to nothing "magical" behind this, so it cannot be countered like a spell. It is not visible, and can be evaded in the same way most sounds can be. Basically..it cannot be. (No..covering your ears won't do it, lol. The vibration is physical. And i see nothing to indicate that Des lacks a physical heart.)

Now...before you scream GM...there is an INCREDIBLY EASY way out of this. So easy that i'm almost embarassed to use it. But...i figured i'd go easy on you after the last attack. Just be sure to read my post..and pay attention to the "vauge" details.)

If the rune is in any way amplified by recieving energy from your ring, then it is technically a "Conduit" for its power. Not really important though. As for covering it..no. I would not be so foolish. I could, however, shatter the rune completely. Since it is the basis for the barrier..no rune = no way to begin the dome. But this is also unimportant. Yeah..i decided to get flashy. Read on.

The subtle hints of pain that played across his face told of what happened within. His heart, the very source of life, had turned against him. And in reply, no more than a foot behind Night, that strange rune burst to life with green light.

"Heh... you..seal....yo...ur...own....FATE!!!"

With those words, the demons heart grew cold..still. He fell forward, his blood slowing...slowing..and in one final, desperate act, he looked up at Night.

Just in time to see him slip his hands through his cloak.

The earth around him was suddenly filled with green light. The energy Desroth had put into motion pooled beneath his feet, gathering in thin, wavering lines to form..what else..a pentagram. The flow of power contintued, spreading upward to form a small, etheric dome around the cloaked man. When it was finished...Desroth rose.

"Heh, you thought you could stop me by stopping my heart huh? The void will not allow my heart to stop. It is a curse and a blessing, and one that you found out to late. It jump started my heart after your sound waves passed, about 6 seconds after i was on the ground. Now then, my nice little dome will show you true death."

Another mistake. He stopped to talk. He should have attacked then and there. During the speech, Night had drawn his right hand from the shadowed depths into the world once more. What rested in its palm was..unimpressive, to say the least. A semi-flat golden disk, no more that 4" across, that bore various runic markings and held a small black stone in its center.

This was secondary. What was truely important was what Desroth could not see. Beneath his cloak, set in a triangle within the breastplate of his armor, five crimson stones awakened. The shards of Chaos...the essence of the one being Night himself could not kill. The Wraithstones.

When Desroth had finished the disk activated. Eight small blades sprang forth, extending in various segmented pieces from within. Four inches of metal..and now, four inches of golden blade, each wickedly pointed and set around the disk in perfect symmetry.

The ground beneath his feet erupted with energy, countless thousands of beams that sped upward..and met a resistance they were unprepared to fight. Various runes cut deep into Night's armor were filled with an all-too-familiar red light, and the streaks of energy that burst through his cloak and collided with its surface ceased to be.

The Wraithstones were not fully activated..not by any means. And if the rune had been fed by a more intense pain, the beams would have likely broken through. But it was not to be. The pain of a stopping heart could be severe..but there were far worse pains to know.

It was not long before the sides of the dome joined the battle. Night flipped the edged disk into the air and caught it between his index and middle fingers, holding it by the blades alone. His movements were frighteningly fast as he brought the disk to face each of the blasts headed towards his only vulnerable area..his head.

When they struck its gleaming surface they recoiled, sent spiralling back into the dome that had brought them forth.

Night flicked his wrist and sent the disk into the stone at his feet. It sunk smoothly into the rock, only the tips of its blades remaining above. A single complete rotation around it's master and its work was finished. It retraced the downward path to rest once more between his fingers.

He looked towards Desroth. His eyes flashed..blue..or was it black? A light that was not. With a grin brimming with malice he drew out his left hand and raised his open palm towards the sky.

What followed was nothing short of incredible.

Just outside of the dome, the ground itself shattered. A jagged circle formed around the pentagram, a flat sphere of broken stone and cracked earth. Then, much like the one who had called it...

It rose.

The whole of the dome, along with the stone it grew from, took flight. It rose steadily under Night's command, propelled by kinetic force alone. Yet one small piece, one tiny circle, remained. The piece that sat beneath Night's feet. The dome passed over him, its contents harmless.

The rune, however...it was not finished.

Down through the floating stone five beams flew. And each struck a now motionless Night squarely in the chest.

The first four had little effect. But the fifth....it may have been the strongest, or it may have been a weakening in his defenses from the onslaught, but either way it blew him backwards off of his feet and onto the ground.

The dome continued rising.

Night layed still, smoke billowing gently from his tattered cloak. At least..until he lifted his right hand. He closed his fist..

The dome had been left open. The hole was small..only slightly larger around than Night himself, and barely visible at over 75 feet..but it was enough. Within the barriers center was a spark of light.

The dome collapsed. The very energy it was composed of was drawn inward, pulled by a force even it could not resist..gravity. To be more precise..the gravity of a small, but incredibly dense star. It was born, matured, and died in an instant..but it was more than enough.

It was drawn into a single point no larger than a marble, and when the star winked out of that world, it had no place to go but out. A ring of ghastly green light filled the sky, bathing the crowd below in its haunting glow..and the Dios Kyan was no more.

"Ha...ha ha..."

Laughter. Bemused...light...almost cheerful.

It seemed like a sudden shift, from bored and arrogent to amused. But his cruel tone had served its purpose. He wanted the child to toss something decent at him..and he had done so. With a mock groan he sat up, raised one knee, and looked down at his cloak. Already the delicate threads had begun regenerating, weaving themselves back into place. For a second, the source of Night's "Survival" was visible..then it was gone, once more covered by cloth.

A large, eight-pointed star of black stone that sat in the center of his armors chest. Perhaps the second greatest Junction Stone is his possession..next to the Nexus Stone, of course. That omnipotent gem hung safely beneath his cloak, just below his neck.

"Not bad, boy. Not bad at all."

He said as he sat lazily. He was vulnerable, not easily defended..but at the moment, he didn't care.

"Show me something else."

(OOC:

First...your dome is conflicting. You say that it gains power based on physical pain/damage..and then you say it would be at its maximum because your heart stopped. There was no real damage done..and while the heart can generate a decent amount of pain, it really isn't that intense. I know from personal experience. Not to mention the fact that the attack was launched AFTER you recovered. This is why i stated that the beams "could" have been stronger. Dying itself is not always that painful..theoretically. After all..i've never done it.

Second..as was made obvious, that little disk can reflect energy. This is exactly what it did in cutting through the ground. It created a temporary sort of "feedback loop" in the bottom of the dome. Energy was reflected..thrown back..reflected..until the structure was altered enough to force it away from the area being cut. This is how i could lift the dome and leave that circle in place. The gravity collapse..that is obvious.

Now..we can keep going..or you can change something. I'll happily give you permission to edit your post and remove the conflict. Hell..you could tie the rune in with your heartbeat. I will then edit mine accordingly to make the internal attack more effective. It is completely up to you. Any questions..as always, PM me. I'll be happy to further clarify anything if you are unsure about it.)
