"NO!!!" Eddie exclaimed as he jumped out of his chair, waking from the nightmare. Everyone around him was laughing at him, including the student teacher, Ms. Isiadore, in front of the room. The actual teacher, a balding short man, obnoxiously dressed in yellow shirt and bowtie, looked over at him. "See me after class, Mr. Powter." Ohh, fuck, Eddie thought to himself. 3 minutes after class, Eddie bolted out of the room. He had to meet up with Nina before she got tired of waiting for him. As he turned the corner, he accidentally bumped into a woman. He turned his shoulder to apologize and he gasped when he recognized the youthful face, or so he thought. He moved faster, getting to the corner where his closest friend was waiting for him. "...Nina! Nina! I saw her just now! One of 'them'! They're following me!" He said as a fit Asian man passed by them, broom in tow. A new janitor? That's too odd..., Eddie thought to himself. |

| "Ah, sorry Mr. Nathaniel, I was just in a hurry to get to class!" He smiled and turned around, turning his attention back to his childhood friend. He grabbed her by the shoulder and pulled her out of the view of the teacher.
"Nina, there's people following me! I saw one of the "opens"! They're the ones that show their face! But the ones that are really following me are the "closed". They're the ones that wear black cloaks and never show their faces. I'm afraid, Nina! Can I stay over your house tonight?" |

BIC: The principal beckoned in Ms. Isiadore, rising to shake her hand. He smiled and sat back down into his crimson plush seat, stretching slightly to the sound of squeaking leather. "Ms. Isiadore, I want to thank you for coming to join us here at Celebration High. We're proud to welcome you to this cozy corner of New Jersey, where we try our hardest to portray a positive standard. I'm sure you've already noticed how free-spirited our students seem here. We give them their freedom here, but in return we ask much. As such, we attract the best and the brightest. If you plan on becoming a staple in the Celeberation family, you need to understand that there's a delicate system this school runs on. Follow the lead of those ahead and don't stray far. We don't want anything bad to happen to you, do we?" The president seemed to exhibit a moment of coyness, before returning to his politically pleasant predisposition. "Hope you enjoy your stay here, Ms. Isiadore. Make yourself at home." Eddie smiled nervously. "Thank you so much, Nina. I'll see you after fourth, ok?" Eddie gave Nina a quick hug before dashing off to his next class, somewhat reassured. He hoped things were going to turn out for the better now. ...With the final bell resounding through the halls, Eddie slowly walked out of the lobby and into the parking lot, looking for Nina's brother's car. Despite the myriad of cars, the parking lot felt eerily empty. That didn't make Eddie any more comfortable. He felt like the cars were spinning around him, like fear was churning the world around him, the eye of the hurricane. He saw one of the cloaked ones amid the army of automobiles and ran, chaos clawing at his senses. He dove underneath one of the cars and pulled out his cell phone, texting Nina with "IM BEING FLlweD in PaRKg Lot HELP", slammed out as quickly as possible as Eddie slowed his breathing. He couldn't be found, not when he was so close to safety!

Eddie got up, looking around. He was panting frantically, looking around like a paranoid put to breaking point. "One of them found me! They've been stalking me! They get inside your head and break you down! Please, don't drive me home, they'll be waiting for me! We need to get out! I'll call my parents from your house, it'll be better that way!"

...Damn, that makes this situation far more difficult, the cloaked man pressed against the opposing side of the tree thought to himself. He couldn't get the boy, he calculated, until later. For now, he had to investigate Target B. The cloaked figure slunk away from the scene of Eddie and his friends into the school, where his next target awaited him. As soon as he silently entered a hallway through a relatively unused doorway, he closed his eyes and focused. He concentrated on the rhythms that all life took heed to, circling ever so naturally in his mind, until he clutched it with his ability. An invisible pulse emanated through the school, and all those still inside were made incredibly drowsy, to the point a cloaked figure was nothing but an indiscernible blur. He made his way down the main hall to find Target B brushing the lobby floor, unphased. Obviously, the man had an irregular circadian rhythm, but with enough focus, even the most energetic men fell to the cloaked man's power. "Koan Tathata, I presume. You may call me the Sandman, and I insist you come with me for the time being."

The Sandman eyed up the broomstick staff. "How quaint."

He stepped forward, his hands beginning to glow with a faint blue aura. He seemed eager to pounce upon his target and snuff him out. The first thing Koan could see underneath the clock was his eyes, devoid of life and color, the ones that seemed to bore into its preys flesh. Was Koan ready for such a man?

The Sandman raised his arms and absorbed the blow, bruising his forearm for certain. He gripped the pole and squeezed. He used the grip on the pole to stay close to Koan and reached in for a grab when suddenly he noticed wisps of mist creep around the corner. Suddenly terrified, he retreated backwards in momentary shock.

"So, it seems 'she' has found her way here, then, hmm? You and the boy have escaped my grasp for now, Tathata, but you will learn that resisting us has dire consequences. You are not our main priority, but as a young Mr. Powter will soon learn, we can be quite...efficient, when it comes to what we do. Until next time." He turned and dashed down the hallway, escaping into the corridors of the school. Koan turned to see the mist subsiding, and found himself left with nothing but questions. Who was 'she'? Who was the group the Sandman referred to? And what did he mean about one of the students? Eddie was trying to make sense of what was going on. His nerves were shot, but he KNEW he had seen someone. Someone in a black full-body cloak... "I'm so sorry about this, Nina, Gianni. I don't mean to pester you guys, it's just I haven't been safe lately. I don't know what to do."

Eddie walked up the steps through the house. It felt warm and inviting, as much so as his normal house. The steps creaked under his feet, and he noticed that while the house was filled with clamor, there was a peaceful silence that filled this house, unlike the unnerving buzz of most places. He slowly stepped into Nina's room, feeling slightly unnerved as he always did when he came into it. It had the feel of Nina about it, and he felt like he stained it with his presence.

"...Yeah, Nina? Whaddya need?" ------------------------------------------------------------ At the Powter residence, Eddie's father, a large, muscular man, was starting a stew on the kitchen oven. He had long, wavy black hair that was graying slightly, and heavy stubble, looking somewhat like an action hero, very much unlike his son. After finishing up the preparations, he doused his hands in a quick wash and stepped out into the living room when the doorbell rung, filling the house with the gentle song the doorbell created. Mrs. Powter came down the stairs as it played, saying "Darren, honey, that must be Eddie. He must have forgotten his key." Darren Powter walked to the door, unlocked the bolt, and swung the door open. "Hey, son-" He instantly silenced when he saw who stood behind the door. Two cloaked figures stood, waiting at the entrance. The one closest to the door, obviously the leader, spoke in a sly, cocky voice. "Hello, Mr. Powter. Mind if we have a little talk?" Eddie smiled slightly, touched to see his friend caring so much. He sat down and dropped his bag, putting his head in his hands, composing himself.

"In the hallway before I bumped into you, I saw one of the people that follows me, or so I thought. I bumped into her in the hallway, but something seemed off. She seemed older than normal, but looked exactly the same." He sighed, rolling the sleeves of his black hoodie up. "Then, in the parking lot, I saw one of the people that wears cloaks. He chased after me, and he had glowing blue hands. I dived under the first car I saw, which happened to be your brother's, and texted you. He seemed to run away when your brother showed up." He looked up, afraid. "They're chasing me because of my power, I know it. I don't know how they know, but they know that I can dream people's thoughts. Here, let me show you." He stared at Nina for a moment, focusing intensily, when he seemingly passed out and slumped backwards, in a trance. A few seconds passed and life seemed to snap back inside him. "I'm sorry I interrupted the conversation you were having with Travis."

Eddie rubbed his face, trying to shrug off the fatigue associated with using his power. "Yeah, somehow if I know someone's name and face, I can fall asleep at will and dream their memories. If I wanted to, I can learn your entire life in one nap, but I don't like to use my power. It robs people of their mystery. Though, I have used it on some crushes to find out how they feel."

Eddie ran his hands through his layered brown hair. He was a kid that the ladies tended to be attracted to, with charmingly good looks, but inside he was and always has been a geeky sweetheart. A lot of girls found the combination enticing, others deterred, but Eddie had never found himself short of friends. Except good friends. Nina was his childhood friend, his closest friend. Eddie looked up, contemplating. "Yeah. Hopefully we can figure this out soon." Eddie sat thinking, and suddenly felt bad about bringing Nina into this. In an attempt to make the situation lighthearted again, he rose his head, asking,

"So, shouldn't dinner be done yet?" Two cloaked figures stood and watched as the Powter residence, 404 Cherenix Court, was burning to the ground. They stood out of sight, away from the desperate firefighters trying to clear the fire enough to get inside. Their fight was a losing one. The cloaked men had made sure of that. They disappeared into the shadows as Koan and Alyssa turned the corner to see the blaze, surrounded by onlookers and firefighters. The fire was raging, enormous and powerful, and the second floor was already almost destroyed.

Eddie had a blank stare on his face for a moment before he realized what Nina said.

"Oh. Oh! Oh! Yeah, lemme get out of your hair, then!" He quickly jumped up and walked out, blushing as he shut the door behind him. He stood there for a moment, looking back into the closed door. I wonder if she's ever thought of me as anything more...He pondered, but quickly shook the thought from his mind. He wouldn't use his power or even act upon anything of the sort, not for this. He felt stupid as he made his way down to the living room, unaware of what had happened, and what lied before him. OOC: True, Xeios, feel free to timeskip.

As soon as Koan mentioned the cloaks, Eddie went blank. Fear crept steadily into his being, trying to turn on the systems shock had shut down.

"...No. No! NO!" He bolted past everyone, dashing out into the street, not letting himself believe what Koan and Alyssa had just said. He moved faster than he ever had before, not even stopping to breathe. Tears wanted to rush out his eyes but pure adrenaline kept them in check until he turned the corner on his block and saw the crisped ruins of his former life. The ruins of his family. The second the truth awoke in him, he stopped. Not bothering to catch his breath, he dropped to his knees in disbelief and sadness. He was responsible for his parents' death. The memories of his mother and father filled his mind as he wept fearsome cries of rage and sorrow. He was alone in the world, no other family, immediate or extended, to got to. His world was over.

Eddie groaned as he rose out of bed, feeling drained. He tried to recall what had happened last night, and he could only remember up to when Alyssa and Nina had caught up to him. He felt like had cried out all the tears inside him until he ran dry. He walked somberly out into the hall and stepped into the bathroom, shutting and locking the door behind him. He took a quick shower, finding solace in the blinding heat of the water. After he was dressed and presentable, he walked back into the empty bedroom, propped down onto the bed, and lied back down, waiting for dawn to break. 4 hours later, Alessandro stepped into the room, finding Eddie awake, staring at the ceiling. "Why are you up?" Alessandro asked quietly. "School." Eddie answered, emotionless and sure. Alessandro seemed to understand. "Let me cook you a breakfast." He stepped out of the room, walking down the hall. That poor kid. Alessandro thought, before looking over at the door. Within sight of the door was a large double-barrel shotgun, inconspicuously placed in between a chair and the wall. After the talk he had with Alyssa and Koan, he felt it was for the best to be ready for anything. ------------------------------- 1 new voicemail for Mr. Wilford: New assignment. A student at Celebration High, Eddie Powter, has just lost his guardians due to what we believe as 'their' activity. They were both post-humans, and we are fully aware that the boy is one himself. Pick him up in school today and take him to the detainment facility. No slip ups. "This isn't good, sir." A young man said as he walked into a dark office. The young man had long, thick white hair, naturally light but dyed professionally, and a thin, pale face. "Two agents can't operate in the field for now. The Powters did a horrible job on Buddy, the bleeding just stopped. And we don't know how or why Sandman is as sick as he is, but we think it has something to do with the last target he was after." The man sitting in the large arm chair fiddled with a pen, deep in thought. "I'm to assume last night's action signaled our motives against our enemies, correct?" "Correct, sir. It's quite possible their presence will be much more focused now. Our information leads us to believe that the Objective will be assigned here." The man in the chair grinned estatically. "Excellent, it seems besides a few setbacks, things are going perfectly for us. You're dismissed." "Yes, sir." The white haired young man stepped outside the office building, disappearing from view.

Gianni walked out into the foyer, swinging the keys around his index finger. He looked at Nina with a passing glance, the kind of one that transmitted a warning. In this case, his eyes seemed to foretell seriousness. Eddie walked out soon after, carrying a tray. He seemed as drained and emotionless as he did when he woke up in the morning.

"Here, Nina, you can eat this in the car." He handed her the tray and walked straight out to the car. Gianni waited a moment, turning to her. "He got that ready for you. I don't know what's going on with his head. Alex told me he was up for hours before dawn." Gianni sighed, looking out at Eddie, who was now just standing by the car, staring off into space.
