I'm listening to my (kind of a strange mix) playlist of Protest The Hero and Streetlight Manifesto. I recently got the discographies of both bands, and I gotta say, I am VERY highly impressed with both of them.

I'm about to start The Restaurant At The End of the Universe by Douglas Adams. Which is, for those of you who don't know, the sequel to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

True. It makes watching Flyers games quite the hassle.

Posted on 11-15-10 01:07 AM, in Failing Out Of College Link
I was forced to admit for the first time, this afternoon, that I am, in fact, failing out of college.

At our hockey game tonight, talk turned to a few of our varsity team's players possibly coming to our team because of eligibility issues (they couldn't maintain the mandatory GPA. Our league doesn't have those restrictions). The coach then said that several of our players wouldn't be eligible if the league we were in was ran by those rules. When I got home, I checked, and what I saw was worse than I'd even thought.

I am currently not passing a single class.

I knew that I wasn't doing well. In high school, I was the kid that never had to study and still got good grades. College, as some of you may know, is extremely different. That, in addition to a lot of emotional problems that have been going on with me lately, have led to some VERY poor grades. At this point, with the semester being over in about a month, it looks like it's too late, and I'm pretty much screwed. I brought it on myself, really; I was too arrogant to study enough like I should have, and then I kinda stopped going to classes lately because of the absolute shitstorm that has become my life. I knew I wasn't doing great, and planned on transferring to a community college next year while I got my act together (I'm at West Chester University next year) in an attempt to save some money. Now, however, I have another concern.

I completely bombed my last year of high school, and my parents were reluctant to send me to college as a result. My mom told me that if I brought home the same kind of grades in college as I did last year, I'd be on my own. Ironically, I'm doing considerably worse now. Which means that it looks like I'm gonna be kicked out sometime around Christmas. Despite it being completely my fault, I really don't know what to do, and added to everything else that I've had to deal with lately, I'm seriously on the verge of a mental breakdown. Guess I just kinda needed to get that out. Any advice would be appreciated, too, although it really seems like there's nothing left to do.

Been a while, but I'll update: the ankle is back to 100%, and is feeling great. I've played three games in the season so far, after sitting out the first one to make sure I was fully healed.

First off, I see how loved I am, Phoenix D:

As for your question, I WOULD say Fallout 3, just because I can't stop playing it right now, but that would be a lie. I am far too much of a pansy for that. I'd probably go with Assassin's Creed. I think it'd be cool to relive the memories of your ancestors.

What is your guilty pleasure song?

Posted on 02-10-11 10:18 AM, in Awkward Situation Link
Okay, so I'm having a birthday party this Saturday, and within my group of friends, a lot of them have dated and since broken up. So, when inviting people, I had to be wary of this; if I were to invite both people, it would be tense and awkward, so often times, I had to choose. And this was the case with my friends Jeff and Steph; they used to go out, had a bad break-up, and I could only invite one. So, I chose Jeff, since I have known him longer and talk to him more. Seems reasonable.

So last night, I'm talking to my friend Rachael, who is also coming. We're...friends, I suppose, but I'm not particularly fond of her. But I tolerate her because she's my best friend's girlfriend. Not only do I found out that she invited herself to the party when she found out that my best friend was going, but beyond that, she invited Steph to come along with them. I told her that it was a bad idea and that I didn't want her to do it, but she said that Steph knows that Jeff is going to be there anyway, and still wants to come. But neither of them stopped to think how Jeff might feel about it. Or me, for that matter. That'll be an awkward greeting: "Hey, I know I chose to invite your ex-boyfriend to this party over you, but welcome!" >.>

Now this is where I get conflicted on what I should do. My initial thought was that if she's going to be that rude as to completely disregard my wishes for my OWN party, to just ask her not to come, and then Steph won't come either. But if I do that, then my best friend won't come either, because he's kind of (and I don't like this term at all, but it really applies in his case) whipped. But if I just let it slide and the three of them come, it's gonna be very tense and awkward (Jeff and Steph had a VERY bad break-up), and that's something that I worked really hard to avoid, and that I don't want ruining my party. And it's a relatively small party too, only like 15 people or so, so I can't just like, hope that they won't run into each other. So I'm at a total loss on what to do. Someone help please?

Well, we lost, as usual...but we decided to spice things up this time by starting a bench-clearing brawl with a minute left to go. It was brewing the whole game, and it just took one arrogant tool taking a cheapshot on (little did he know) our team's biggest hothead to push it over the edge. As the guy was skating to the penalty box, the guy he hit came up behind him and took him out, then everyone on the floor from their team got on him, then all our guys went over. Our captain jumped the penalty box, the refs had no control at all, and then the second one guy from their team left the bench, every single one of our players was at there, and all hell broke loose haha.

It's a shame we lost; we were down 5-0 going into the third period and only lost 5-3, so we were coming back, but it was definitely a memorable birthday, that's for sure haha.

And here's the kicker: we play them again in four days xD

I got ENFJ, same as Rogue, so I won't repost the analysis. That seems pretty dead on though, I'm not gonna lie. Good call on this, Phoenix.

Also, I'm the same personality type as Sean Connery? WIN.

Dunno if anyone mentioned this, but New Vegas is only four years after Fallout 3.

As for the game itself, I wasn't impressed. I mean, it was fun and all, but I was expecting better from Obsidian. I loved Fallout 3, and to me, this wasn't much of an improvement. Considering it came from the original makers, I thought it'd blow me away. The story was much better than Fallout 3...in a way.

I dunno how to do that spoiler thing, so...if you don't want spoilers, stop reading here.

I was annoyed at the endings. I played through it and sided with House, NCR, and the independent New Vegas thing, and every ending just kinda left me with an empty "man, I fucked up" feeling. There wasn't really a positive ending to the game, I'd say. In general, that's very realistic, and kudos to Obsidian for making it as such. But I mean, come on...this isn't real life. It's a video game. You want the sense that, you know, you actually won. Not "okay, I did that, and now New Vegas is screwed..." regardless of what you choose. I dunno. I don't regret buying it, but I just feel like the endings could've been better.

SO this is totally a thing. I've been running an online version of this, mostly on Facebook, and I have to say, it's pretty awesome. I'm prepping our second game to start sometime this week, and the first one was great. We had sixteen people playing, not counting me (as The Narrator). They went like the first week without lynching ANY werewolves, and then everything turned around on the village's last night to be saved. The Seer knew who all the werewolves were, so there was no way they could have won, so I gave them a chance to play it out and die by hanging, or die in battle against our Hunter/newly elected Mayor. They chose the latter, and I wrote a kickass battle scene for them.

Also, Phoenix was in the game and was totally a werewolf. And he died. HA.

The website for the game is: www.werewolfonline.tk

The werewolves' death scene can be read here (Shane, the Hunter, portrayed his character as a pirate throughout the game, which explains the dialog): https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1XSYAoSTqO5-E_BtcHYwNcgvQXf1NUAOg7sLWk-eEcC8

I'll make my obligatory post for the year here, since I don't really post anymore anyway. I'm much more excited for the season as a whole, whereas in past years I've just been excited for the Flyers. Brendan Shanahan stepping in as disciplinarian should take a lot of the dirtier players off the ice (for example, Jody Shelley already got suspended the rest of the preseason and the first five games of the regular season which, in addition to being a good punishment, should actually HELP the Flyers) and let the clean players play without fear.

Obviously, it was a tragic offseason. Three players died individually, and then of course there was the plane crash that killed that entire KHL team. That, plus Crosby still not being able to practice means that this season is even more important for the players to honor those guys that can no longer do what they love. I'm also very excited for the Jets, Atlanta's been seriously improving the last few years, Ladd is a good captain and player, and they're projected to be one of the dark horses in the east this year. It should be a great season.

The Richards and Carter trades, while regrettable, were necessary to send a message to the rest of the guys on the team. Both of them were known for caring more about hitting the bars, even before game days, than they were for focusing on their game on the ice. Richards, even moreso, was turning into a joke of a captain. His first few years here, he was hands-down my favorite player. But last year, I started to not be able to stand him. In addition to his lack of commitment to the team, locker room clashes with Chris Pronger put Richards' ability to lead the team into question and essentially divided the locker room. Being given the "C" is one thing; earning it is another. When a guy like Chris Pronger, who's won a Stanley Cup, two gold medals, a Hart Trophy, and has been to six all-star games (most of those achievements coming while HE had the "C"), you don't whine when he steps up to try and incite a struggling team to perform better just because you have the "C" on your chest and he doesn't. Granted, it was a huge slap in the face to Richards when Pronger got the "C" for Team Canada in the 2010 Olympics, but maybe he should have also taken that as a hint that this man can lead a team, and that he should at least co-exist with him, if not step aside. Richards handled the situation immaturely, his attitude towards winning was less than savory, and his on-ice performance was slipping. That being said, it still definitely sucks to lose a player like that, because he had so much potential and did do a lot of great things for the Flyers, but it was necessary in a way to move forward as a team. Carter...I feel no remorse at losing him.

That being said, I really like the guys the Flyers have brought in. Schenn has looked good in the little bit he's played before getting hurt, Simmonds' mix of physical play and actual talent is very quickly making him my favorite Flyer, Voracek hasn't been phenomenal but then again, it's still pre-season; Nikolai Zherdev had five goals in four games in last pre-season, look at where he ended up. And Couturier probably isn't NHL-ready yet, but he's showing a hell of a lot of promise for next year, maybe the year after. Plus, Jagr and Giroux are looking insane together (Jagr actually compared Giroux to Mario Lemieux the other day). I think the Flyers are in a much better position right now than they were at this time last year.

(P.S. Sorry if that first part came off a bit strong, but I get my Flyers info from my brother, who works on the side as a sportswriter and he gets a lot of information before it goes public/that doesn't go public, so I'm not entirely sure how much of the Richards and Carter/Richards and Pronger stuff actually ended up leaking through to the press, so I figured I'd make note of that.)

Yeah, the banana thing was just disgusting. The guy who threw it made a statement through his lawyer claiming that he didn't realize it could be construed as racist, and was just throwing it to distract Simmonds so that the Red Wings would win...but why on earth would he have brought a banana to a hockey game?

And I've been pretty busy lately so I haven't been able to keep too much of an eye on it, but has Crosby played yet/is he close to being cleared to play?

Awesome first night and day of action. Kings and Flyers, my two teams, both won. Suffice to say, I am pleased.

I'm also now hearing rumors that Mike Richards and Jeff Carter were both involved in some kind of drug use, which attributed in part to the big off-season trades. I'm not sure what to believe with this anymore.
