I agree with Kai. Its been a while since I've seen true fighting around here ((Except my match with Cairoi))

Bring it on.

I'm going to be fairly honest, the sim forum looks dead.

I was gone nearly six months, and when I came back, almost all the old threads that I left where almost in the same exact places, with maybe 6 or so new fights starting. It appears to me that people are just losing interest in fighting in general.

My Proposal: A new tournament.

Originally, the Sim Fighting Rules was put into effect for the sole reason of controlling official fights dictated by the sim battling community, and not freelance fights, that so many people prefer over other things, since they can set their own prefered rules, and overall enjoy the match that much more.

It's been a long time since the last tournament, start one up and see what you can do with it.

I like to feel that I give people adequte warning as to what is coming before it happens.

Take mine and Seticus' fight in the tournament. I did the Elw Chain of Seals, but it required a long time for it to appear and when it did appear, I left hints on how to destroy it. I think that is a key problem to people not sticking to the rules. They make a attack that is so undescriptive, that as soon you do something to stop it, they say that you triggered a special ability of the attack that makes you get raped by several men in tight leotards.

Now I hate to say it, but Leviathan (who we all hated and loved) had it down pat. He had description, style, and he always noted some way of escape as a hint. Granted he did have several attacks that defied themselves (his guns for example, which by his definition would have obliterated themselves when he fired them). There is cheap, then there is well thought out planned attacks.

As for the tired issue, Desroth can get worn out easily once he reaches his Conflicted Spirit form. In fact, I remeber one fight I was knocked out of the conflicted form by an attack from my opponent.

Its all about how good of a sim battler you are. If you know the limits to your character, there are ways around everything if you are creative enough with what you got. Even then you got to know when there is no possible way to do anything, like if the enemy is point blank with a energy blast as you are falling. Drizzt was a good fighter who knew that too, the first title match I did against him, I fired my Mana Cannon for the third time ever in a fight (One against Luc the Wind Master, I fired one at kaijin in our match to little effect since he was increibly fast, and one more against Seticus at a previous date when he first suggested the attack).

In fact, I would like to dub this problem as: Kaijinism or Spardaism. Everyone decided to make super powerful characters, but lacked the skill to use them resulting in them preforming cheap moves and such. You can be powerful, but have the decency to know when you are going to be hit and deal with it...

Why do you think they were waiting for you to get hit as well? You can't really expect people to get hit in the first place and well... When one guy get hit, the first thing on their mind is the immediate "You're fucked" thought.

Even though I never fought much, or somehow became a "cheapie," I can still say something in my opinion.

Anyway, my solution is that people aren't likely to sim-battle if their fight have either gone from good to bad in the matter of time, or simply because people are manipulating few thing (hey, even I did it before.) to create "disturbance" during the fight. The only way to fix this is creating an rules on the first post explaining (if needed) in details.

Heck, if you want your post to be two paragraphs long, 5 sentences each for being a MINIMAL requirement, say so in the first post before the battle actually starts. (If there are, for some reasons, that can't be summarize in 2 paragraphs, try your best to make 2 paragraphs and not 2 sentences.)

My personal opinion is everyone's character need to act like they have limits. No speed of light, no incredible megadeath moves that come out of nowhere. That's how I've come to enjoy playing.

While it may be true or not... Let's try this way. If you are fighting in real life, you would guard yourself against an opposing enemies, right? Well, if you are only armed with a sword, you would relies on dodging so much. If you have a shield, you block AND could dodge. And if I already attacked you with a sword, it takes time for me to "prepare" another attack (not dodging or blocking) but meanwhile, when you already have dodged, can attack me from the side or the front, depending how I swung my sword in which directions.

However, I can STILL dodge OR block your attack because my right arm was already used up (at the moment) but not my left, which already told me that it was ready to defend. That's why some people can still uses the common factor because they might have seen a movie (say Gladiator?) where the main character (which they became) survives for several durnations of fight without taking any damages.

But the real factor should be fatigue but then again, noone want their character to be tired... AT ALL.

But there should be some thing that requires explaination and not pure bullshit. For example, if I played Volke (from FE10, poor example but let's pretend anyway) and chose anyone against me, the immediate thought of OHKO can still work and I used it against you. Now I already mentioned it that it doesn't matter if you have severals armor on or made of machine, you are still going to be assassinated anyway (which will results me an instant GM but that's STILL not the point) but I didn't mentions that it would work on someone with quick regenation or special ability.

If you chose quick regenation, you must also explain how the OHKO didn't became effective or how it "failed" upon striking. Don't make up pure bullshit up. You can't "regenate" lost body if you lost one that have access to primary body function (head).

If you chose special ability, do more then you just dodge it or have your armor "ping" it off. Even if you have full set of armor, an assassin can still kill you with one hit because armor have small slot used to make easy movement. Even your back of the neck is unsafe because there is a small slot there that can hit as well. You can pull a "awareness reflex" which act upon your instinct to know the next attack will be, or you can pull a "goddess protection" but requires MORE explaination.

In the end, it really depends on the sim-battle requirment to explains more rather then so-and-so action.

I agree. Hand to hand or sword to sword is much better then the "Stand 60 feet away from each other and shoot massive energy beams till one person gets bored and stops posting"

::nods::

I mean, I have alot of energy based attacks, but I Either use my fists or my sewords in any fight. I use my other powers to amp it up a bit. Just like Cairoi and how Sparda use to

Maybe that's how things should come to be. I mean, maybe we should put a limit on magic, not necessarily MP, but something that would work the same way. Something that would take the focus off of shooting fireballs back and forth at each other and making the battle seem more heated, closer, with a larger influence on writing how a fight is, and a smaller influence of writing how something comes at someone from a range. I mean, I've wanted for a while to have a good melee combat Sim Battle, but it just doesn't happen as often as it should.

Maybe we should rebirth the Weapon Master tournament.

In essentially every fight I've been in lately, I've been hit several times. I agree with the fact that the whole never ending dodge thing is annoying, but really, I feel like people have made their characters far too overpowered, so the whole endless dodging thing became the norm.

That's why Cairoi isn't a god anymore, he rarely uses Terramorphus, he, for the most part, punches and uses his Cross Scars. The two fights I've been in recently, with Clockworkz and Leon, have been primarily physical fights, and I really enjoy them.

My personal opinion is everyone's character need to act like they have limits. No speed of light, no incredible megadeath moves that come out of nowhere. That's how I've come to enjoy playing.

Well, not even setting any examples other than fights I've been in. (they're really the only ones I actually read) I've seen battles go on for pages without any injury, everyone dodging attacks etc. I always try to throw out something that wouldn't hurt someone too much, so they can at least say they got hit. But I usually wait for the other person to do the same so I can get hit too. It almost never happens.

There's too much dodging, there's not enough realism. I mean sure, if there are 100 attacks used in a fight and 99 of them cause "instant death" then I wouldn't want to get hit either. But Sim battles are supposed to exist in a realm of altered reality. Not broken. Not a reality where it takes a millisecond to move your entire body to the side to dodge a bullet or a sword slash.

I feel that Sim Battling has turned into more or less a contest of whom can do the most ridiculous shit. And it's not even fun for me anymore.

Also, battles ending abruptly people not posting in them, etc. makes even thinking about battling someone completely pointless. A loss will not hurt someone that much, a loss will not make someone bad at Simming it'll just make them know the limits of their character.

I'm just finding the whole effort of Sim-Battling to be a useless endeavor, and I haven't had a finished fight in ages.

It's sorta people like that which caused me to quit simbattling. Mainly it's the graceful dodger rule that gets broken most often from what I remember.

Well, let's set the example.

A good old mini tournament, no tournament-wide gimmicks.

Maybe Sparda could come out of his retirement for it?

I got one. In the fight that one of the new kids made that I chose to participate in. He created two "shadow's" a type of clone from what I read. I told him AND copied the rule into my post for him to see NOT to do it again. HE never replied again. And I was just talking to Xeo about the Sim area. and its.....lack of active and caring posters. I MISS PEOPLE LIKE YOU SPARDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMO, A revival seems like it would require more people to participate again, not a good battle here and there.

White, what do you mean by "disregarding rules"? Can you give me an example? The reason i ask this is simply because i don't read sim fights anymore so I wouldn't really know what you're referring to.

I'd actually say that Simbattling is seeing a revival, at least from what I'm seeing. I've having two good fights with Clockworkz and I finished one with Leon, both were/are great and nobody godmodded.

If you have a problem concerning a member, PM them. Or me. This issue can be fixed in that manner.

I've noticed that "the rules" aren't really ever followed. I mean, they used to just be bent(I'm guilty of that), but seriously there's no possible way for a Sim-Battle to continue/be fun if everyone acts the way they do, disregarding rules, just so their precious character's don't get hurt or show weakness.

I would say I miss the old day's of sim-Battling, but I was never a part of them, I was on the "New Wave" of radical rule-breaking kids that came in.

I think a full adherence to the rules would put the fun back in Sim-Battling, and it would be treated more as a debate than as a fight of "Whose character is totally the coolest dude ever!"
