Originally posted by MasterSylar Actually... Katamari Damacy? Before you say it, you said "any other female videogame character". And Guillo > Samus, for the win. Originally posted by Vidar I see your point there... But in Final Fantasy VI or III, whatever it is, isn't it a larger focus on Celes and/or Terra? Wouldn't that make them the leading protagonist? I mean, Edgar, Locke, Sabin, etc., didn't have that much major role and Terra and Celes have a surprisely seemly larger role then meet to the eye. It's just like how Frodo's major role was just enough to understand that he haven't got the whole movie focus on him. All you see was that he was captured by human, climb the wall of a mountain, got saved by his only compansion after sting, and lost the ring and his fingers into the magma. Whereas Aragon stole the show. |

Originally posted by VidarOriginally posted by SeticusOriginally posted by Rogue My mistake. In that last paragraph I meant to say "it could be considered a leap for Square to have a woman lead in a Final Fantasy game," and not just Square in general. Obviously, they have put out female-led games, but FF is a different story. It's that little detail that makes all the difference. |

Originally posted by SeticusOriginally posted by Rogue Not many people know about those games, though. Let's think about this. A female main character in a game that isn't very well-known... sure, it's been done, and by Square no less, but that's somewhat irrelevant when you consider the "not very well known" bit. Final Fantasy, on the other hand, is very well-known and very popular, so it's a bigger deal there. However, yeah, what she said was definitely Square, not FF. |

Originally posted by Rogue Uh? I didn't quite catch what you mean. Are you saying that Square never HAD a main female character until Final Fantasy XIII? If so, two words: Parasite Eve (both 1 and 2). Secondly, being a protagonist doesn't mean that the story should be focus on that particular person. Hell, what would really happened if Yuna actually died? There would be no horrible FFX-2, but then again, Sin would already taken out the entire land. Or if Terra haven't got out of her mind control? Or if Celes wasn't free from her prison and was executed? It's like having FE9 that we all know if the main character was completely killed off, it is a game over (Ike). But if Elinica is the person you have to protect from way-too-late chapter to endgame, why is it also a game over when she dies too? Even Lord of the Ring did that. Originally posted by Xeogred with a different name Hate to break it, but... Even if she IS a female character (and she is), her role is hardly anything to be close to being a character. She is a bounty hunter and that's it. No dialogs other then her death scream, no character development, no anything that made her unique. |

Honestly, I'm really excited for this.
If at all possible, I'm going to try and get XIII:Versus and XIII: Agito as well. ^ That's Versus, the game from the view of the antagonist. |

On a side note, female lead characters in games are usually kickass.
<3 Samus. |

Originally posted by VidarOriginally posted by Seticus And THAT'S precisely what I'm getting at. Yeah, there are leading women in many other games, but it's in Final Fantasy, one of the biggest and most recognizable games/sagas, that females usually only play love interests and supporting roles. In X-2, a spin-off from a male-led game (if you can justify Tidus' manhood), among the main objectives were getting together sets of clothing for the girls. Um... So while there are strong women in the gaming world (Lara Croft, Alice, etc), it could be considered a leap for Square to have a woman lead much like it has been for Disney to start making animated movies starring minority groups (a black princess is on the horizon). |

Originally posted by Seticus I note that you're comparing two different series. Fact is, FF has had very few female main characters (most have just been secondary, or even less than that), and it could be said that FFVI didn't have any one "main" character at all - note that up until now, that was still the closest they came to having a female main protagonist. Originally posted by Seticus Y'know, that's actually been used as a name in some games... |

Originally posted by MasterSylarZoneManOf course it's worse. Megaman X6, X7 and X8 were the only ones that were really "taking it too far". And maybe if they keep making Zero games. Anyway, I've never, ever, been a real fan of FF. There have only been two FF games that I played a lot of. FF8, which I haven't beaten, and the first, which I did. I can't get into any others, and haven't even touched some. This is going to be the same. |

I can imagine rain happening.
Though it's not a very tough name... haHA I am going to rain on you! |

Why is everyone treating like women are less likely to be the main character in a game? Erika and Lyn have a Lord class in Fire Emblem, yet you guys treated like Final Fantasy never had a female main character.
Heather in Silent Hill 3 is another example. And less us not forget Clocktower too. Anyway, here's my opinion: I hope they don't fuck it up with this women being magically powerful enough to have her vagina ripping male's head off. Originally posted by Rogue Cloud, Squall, and... Lightning? I'm starting to see a pattern here. Next thing we know, we got someone named Wind, Tornado, and Rain. |

Originally posted by MasterSylar Oh what the hell. Terra had Green hair. Well on the instruction manual, they freaking look the same Lets try this again. DID YOU MEAN TERRA!? Sure Celes was key to the story, but Terra was more suited |
Xeoman Posts: 6237/11757 |
Celes man, Celes!
But yeah, I'm not sure about versions, but I'm pretty sure they've already announced there will be a trilogy of some sorts to the whole XIII world, so three games that tie in somehow. Its annoying. Its gotten worse than Megaman games. |

Isnt there supposed to be like 239487892034792387498 different versions of this game?

Originally posted by RogueOriginally posted by MasterSylar "ASSHAT", haha wow. That's awesome. And yeah, the character models in the CG scenes just looked way too different compared to their in game characters. I mean, previous games like FFVIII weren't nearly that bad. I thought Yuna looked pretty goofy too (like you said, very Asian). Leon: Yeah, DMC is probably right. |
Leon D. Sagara Posts: 695/859 |
WOW can we say DMC!!!!!!!
I Dont think Square should ever diviate from teh active time bar. ITs what makes RPG's an RPG. |
Rogue Posts: 3239/11918 |
Originally posted by MasterSylar Hence why whenever I play it, I rename him "ASSHAT." I swear his in-game version looks like Jonathon Taylor Thomas, while the cut-scene version looks vastly more Asian. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high. As sad as it sounds whenever I do hope, things end up shitty, and so I end up anxious before the things I want come out. So here's to being somewhat optimistic, yet unexpecting. |

With all the remakes/porting and milking Squeenix has done to the series lately, I'm really not that much of a fan anymore. And I'm still a little unimpressed with this so far from what I've seen. It looks like Xenosaga all over again.
That's me. |
