I dont really judge the book by it's cover. but I do sometimes have doubts about the book in general. I usually get books and suggestions from friends

Yeah, the last book I read was Fight Club, by Chuck Palanuik.

I like darker books with meaning, like Fight Club, and A Clockwork Orange, and though its not nearly as dark, I'd say Ender's Game.

I also enjoy the Harry Potter series, but for some odd reason I hate the movies. I read the first Eragon and it was good, never saw the move. And the Pendragon series was good until I lost track of how many books of it were made and just gave up on it.

I just spend a lot of my time either working, playing video games, or hanging out with friends, so I haven't gotten to read a lot lately.

I did read Charlotte's Web that I borrowed. I orginally going to read to my sister but ended up reading IT myself.

I could not put that book down. It's amazing.

Yeah, I'm actually about 300 pages into the book I'm writing. I'm trying to make it as original and as far away from Tolkien as is physically possible.

Has anyone ever read the Eragon series?

Yeah, I've read some of the Inheritance trilogy, although both books were terribly written, aside from the story. Also, I didn't like how in Eldest then the writer decided to try to use his book to promote atheism. I just can't respect it when people try to bring everyday religion into an otherwise good novel.

3: Dragons of Spring Dawning

If your a big fan of fantasy and dragons and such. Try out those books right there.

Yeah they do look really good. I always look at them and then decide to go with something else every time I visited the library lol. So I never really got around to trying them.

Has anyone ever tried writing their own book or short fiction? I tried all the time but the farthest I got was about 20 double spaced pages of a not even half finished story lol.

Way to be a dick FX.

Lol.

Anyway. Books I read. Not many.

Instruction Manuals to games.

Uhh...

American Psycho. <--A very sick book.

I guess I'm more into science fiction, realistic fiction, and fantasy novels. Though I delve into other types every once in a while.

I found the author of Dark Fire and it's C.J. Sansom. Dark Fire is actually sort of a sequel to his book River of Darkness, but you don't have to read that one to get Dark Fire.

And yeah Mercedes Lackey has a large amount of books that all tie into one another in a timeline. I would definitely recommend them. I guess it would be best to start with one of her earlier series like the Gryphon trilogy (The Black Grypon, White Grypon, and Silver Grypon) however order it's in. Sometime's the explanations can get a little confusing so it's best to start out at the beginning.

Lets see...what's the first real novel/books that you all remember reading? Mine was called Dragon Kyn by Susan Fletcher.

Lately I've also kinda been into Mystery/Thriller books like Dark Fire (can't remember the author's name).

Ive heard of the Dragon Riders of Pern and Eragon, but never seemed to get into them. I had a few friends that would talk about how good Mercedes Lackey was.

Like I said.. I just had so many different series that I was reading that I didnt have much time to introduce a new one. It seemed once I was finished with one book a new one of another series came out and I started reading that..

The list I have above is pretty short.. I think I was reading about 5 or 6 more than that.. *shrugs*

as far as "Dark Fire" it almost sounds like a Dean Koontz book, him and Stephen King are really good mystery/horror books

I read quite a bit. I haven't read any manga in a long time. I go crazy when I don't have anything new to read.

I just finished up with A Great and Terrible Beauty, which was very dark, and very good. And I've also just read Laurell K. Hamilton's new book, The Harlequin, which is amazing. I'm now in the process of reading The Chronicles of Narnia. I can't usually read anything but Sci-Fi/Fantasy. I've tried. I just can't.... it's gotta have another world in it, or sexy vampire and werewolves.... hehe

This is what happens when you work in a bookstore, I guess. You can't help but read. (It also helps that there's a 30% discount on books, and you can check them out as you would like a library.

Oh, and btw, I'm back. ^-^

FX, this thread is fine here. This one is talking about the tpye of book, the other is talking about the specific ones. So, this one remains, and I don't have a problem with where it is.

Now, what sort of books do I like to read?

I'm going to have to go with science fiction, or some fantasy. Usually I like books with a lot of details, and a huge plot, which is usually only in science fiction or fantasy.

I also like books with original ideas, such as Harry Dresden, Harry Potter, or almost any of Timothy Zahn's books.

Yeah but I'm talking about books in general. That thread is for talking about one book at a time and talking a little bit about it.

Like it says right there: If you wanted you could make a separate thread if you wanted to discuss it even further, "but that thread is suffice for naming a book and talking a bit about it."

Lord X said that General OR entertainment would be fine.

I thought it would be best to keep all the entertainment section more towards tv and music. And I'm not even sure if very many are gonna respond anyways.

Gah and now it's back as a sticky lol.
