Well today was not that bad. I graduated

Which is funny because my boss told me for the next 2 months, I need to learn the prices, and I need to work on minor things that I can easily improve on.

Honestly, I know in a few months im gonna look back at my anxiety and just laugh at it. My 25 dollar paycheck and 29 dollars in tips made me feel alot better today.

Also, I wont have to worry about sleep, I work 2 nights 2nd shift, and 2 nights 3rd from now on. And now that im by myself on the floor, Ill still be lectured on a few things I need to improve on. But im not worried about it.

Thanks guys, you were all a great help!

I had to learn about 10+ different grades of wood, the different types of wood and there sizes within the first week or so of working at boise...

lets see...

grades=

C, D, XD, Shim, A-Patch, Uniform, G1, G2, G3, Solid, Reclip, and wet. I know im missing one in there somewhere to...

Sizes...

We have 50's which are 4ft by 8ft sheets of wood.
Saddle blankets which are 3ft by about 4ft.
Fishtails are anywhere from 2in's wide to 1ft wide by 3ft long
and Strip which is anywhere from 2in's to 1ft wide by 8ft long

I dont even want to get into the types right now... because there's different classes for each wood... not to mention different thickness's from 1/6 inches or thinner... down to pretty much almost paper thin..

but basically sorry to bore you on this useless info... just want you to know that your making out like a bandit with having to call out orders... and that you'll do fine..

Oh.. did I mention I was working in 125 degree heat at the time to..

hehe

I know how you feel really. When I started my job at Best Buy it was during the holidays so I was rushed right from the start. I didn't even get training other than the orientation and a little side talk from my manager.

What I did is honestly while not even knowing what to do I just tried to keep really busy with the easiest tasks until I could watch and learn enough about the harder tasks until I felt I could do those without having to ask anyone about it.

I know it feels like it's gonna be a really stressful job to do, but it's really all not that bad as it first looks. You just relax, find the flow of your job, and go with it while learning everything you can.

At Woolworths I felt a little rushed when they put me to work. I know it's only bringing stock down from the stock room and putting it on shelves, but I was given very little information in my induction (It was more information about stuff I'll probably never need to know like robberies or fires) and I learnt at least five new things today about the locations of various things and how to create stock lists etc. and it's my second week of working there.

Just remember your colleagues should be happy to help. If you don't know something while working, just ask someone.

Okay you really have no need to worry. When you have a job in the food, corporate, production, or retail world, you have a 90 day suspension. Meaning you're unfireable for 90 days. That's how it worked for my Books Amillion job and that's also how it works for all other jobs as will because I was bored and read the job stuff in the department of labor. Usually everyone messes up so your boss will give you 30 days to mess up. Then after those you "know better". So really you have nothing to worry about. Infact when I worked at BAM, Donna wrote me up after my 30 day suspension. =_=; Three times in one day.

Edit: Alittle advice too. A few weeks equals 3-4 weeks which equals 21-28 days. Put it like that. You'll have a better look at time. =P

You guys know that I got myself a job, yeah, well here is the story so far.

So far I have only had 3 days of training, in one hour, it will be my "Last" day of training, and here I thought It was going to be about 6 days worth of training.

On the schedule, they have me down for 3rd shift this weekend, and all this week I will be on 2nd. But why am I worried about it?

I still dont know how to work the register, call out orders right, or any other Sales person things that I prolly need to worry about.

Last night, I diddnt get no sleep. Well I might have, I dont remember passing out, and it seemed forever that I was laying on that bed. Im really worried about being on my own, but then again, I have to keep telling myself that its a learning experience, and just do the best I can at my job. If people have a problem with the way I am at the moment, they will just have to deal with it.

Did I study? A little bit. But in the book, it really does not have enough info about orders being called out.

How come I diddnt sleep? Well, I have a bad habit of not sleeping if im stressed out. I feel awake, but I know pretty soon I will be like a zombie during the job.

Im mainly just afraid of letting people down while im there. Getting things wrong, making more stress with the workers, and causing problems is what is expected, and is what im afraid of.

And ideas guys on what I should do?

Edit- (One hour later)

My aunt came home and told me I diddnt have work today. Mainly because Gerald, my boss, was not there, and that the manager there at the moment would rather me come in when he was there. Also, my shadow artist isnt there as well, so today I got a lucky break.

I also talked to him about how I felt. I told him exactly that I felt a little rushed into being a sales person and he completely understood. He kinda laughed and asked if I got any sleep today. I was honest and told him no, and he was apologizing. Then he told me to work a little on my book and not worry about a thing. There is a sales person there who was working for over 3 months and she still does not know how to call out orders right somewhat, but she gets the job done in her own way. So that definately made me feel alot better than I was before.

He then told me to work on my book, and just do the best I can. He put me on the schedule for 2nd because there was someome who works 2nd and knows my aunt, and said she would be glad to help me in any way possible. He also has me down for 3rd so that way I can be rushed a little bit, and I can learn the tricks of 3rd shift. Plus Cathy will be with me, and shes always comforting.

I still feel a little worried, but im sure I will be able to master Calling out orders within a few weeks. -_____-

But seen how I have the day off, Ill be studying all morning. They have a little segment in the book that I just discovered about little tips about being in charge of tables, so im gonna take advantage of that and learn all I can.
