This is the first time I've considered that I haven't considered doing anything for the first time. Evidently, I must have started somewhere, but everything just seems autoregressive. Actually, I tried differential geometry for the first time. It's like this:

Unimaginably, it has non-trivial consequences!

About 1 month ago. It's the first time meeting my cousin in Brooklyn N.Y. on my own.

Let's see, I'm totally winging this, so it might not come out completely.

-Well this past year I learned that I had an astrocytoma embedded in a bank of soft tissue connecting my neck muscle to my spine and lower part of my brain. So that was something I experienced for the first time. I had laser surgery which filed the tumor away from my brain and spinal chord. I also went through chemo-therapy which shrunk the tumor enough to send it into remission.

-I also legally drove a car for the first time. I got my permit back in June. I procrastinated a little, but it was well worth it.

-I celebrated my first one year anniversary with Pockets in January. We'll celebrate our second soon.

- Not that this is a whole lot to hoot and holler about, but I tried ecstasy and smoked pot for the first time this year to. Not to mention I started smoking hookah which is amazing!

I can't think of any more, but this will be a work in progress.

Whoa, Belial. That's outstanding.

And Katana, thanks for asking about my dad. He's fine these days. The wound closed up and while there's a huge indentational scar that goes from the middle of his neck and down a foot on his back, he's otherwise lost 100 pounds from eating healthier and getting some exercise, he doesn't need insulin, and he takes meds that help control his sugar level (or was it blood pressure? He takes the stuff before he eats and when he doesn't eat soon enough he can feel either his blood sugar or blood pressure dropping and he gets irritable). It was just devastating at the time.

Thankfully diabetes isn't near the curse that people used to think it was.

So among things I'll be doing for the first time, I'm driving to Phoenix on Thanksgiving morning to Zoso's family. It will be my first time driving a reasonably long distance with nothing around but my car and the road. Now while I've been on many road trips before, I've never been the person driving.

I drove part of the way from San Clemente late last week, which is an hour away from home and, for the first time, I drank a whole can of Monster. There's plenty of civilization between Long Beach and San Clemente, though. From here to Phoenix is desert.

Off topic, but how is your dad, Rogue? I hope he's doing better.

Hmmm....lessee...I was asked to be the maid of honor at my little sister's wedding. They're not getting married for a few years actually, but it was my future brother-in-law who was insistent upon her asking me now. Well, he practically asked, which actually meant a lot to me, considering he and I came a long way. First time we met I punched him in the face, and now he and I are like best friends. Teehee.

It's kinda just special all around. She'll be the first of my sisters to be married too. (my older sisters aren't actually married...unless that common law marriage stuff exists still. **shrugs**)

For the first time ever, I went a whole football season without going to one game....

Now this is disappointing for me because since 7th grade I've been going to at least 3 games for my schools football team..I jus love football..but after last year when it was raining and i stood outside in a foreign area in the rain and caught pneumonia watchin them play football and they lost...I was like forget it...so I didn't go at all this school year I disappoint myself.

Well...it's the first time I was on a basketball team.

I'm decent at Basketball, but our team was one of the worst I've ever seen. Our first game(which I couldn't attend) had a grand score of 2 to 58.

We did better later, and I think we'll actually be decent this year.

Take the subject title as you see fit, but I'm talking about trying/doing something for the first time.

Anything.

Not just sex.

As the year's been winding down I've been looking back at all of the things I've done this year for the first time. I'd been keeping a list in one of my journals (however I can't seem to find the damn thing now, so here's to winging it).

I just always find pride in trying new things. Experiences, good or bad, improve a person.

Anyway, as you do new things feel free to post them. Maybe even detail the experience if it's something you think not many other people on the board have done.

Just the things I can remember doing for the first time since the year started:
- "Legally" driven a car : Got my permit and am now driving everywhere, though I still need Zoso with me for it to be legal.
- Changed a flat tire while on the road, all by myself. I'd changed tires before for my dad when I was a little kid and on our driveway, but it was the first time I was out somewhere with someone who wasn't my dad.
- Became a godmother. My god-daughter's turning a year old in a little less than a month. It's amazing the wonderful things that are just sort of sprung on you.
- Been labeled a "roadie," "drum tech," or "band photographer." I REFUSE to be nothing more than a "band girlfriend," "groupie," "hanger-on" or any of that shit girls are labeled when they're friends with and/or dating band members. So yeah, I've been working my ass off supporting Zoso and his band this year.
- Went to the hospital on my birthday. Was visiting my dad whom we had just discovered was severely diabetic and had most of the skin on his back removed and he was left with exposed muscle for a few weeks, and went around town strapped to a WoundVac.
- Power slid across a dancefloor while taking pictures for Zoso's band. I actually was just trying to get a good picture of the bass player while he was head-banging, but the effect was somewhat funny. It's how I got a picture like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/78171287@N00/1310647372/
- Sat up in the middle of the night making an adamantium claw, fake cigar and perfecting how to get Wolverine hair right. Yeah, it was Zoso's costume for a party last month and I'm damn proud of how it turned out. The pictures actually don't do it justice. I know pride's a sin and all, but damn was it made of win at the time.
- Drove out to the middle of nowhere to watch a meteor shower. Was out on the coast at a random rest stop watching the Great Perseids with Patrick (Junkie) and Zoso.
- Sat up all night looking at a lunar eclipse. Zoso and I sat up all night watching the full eclipse that happened in late August. Photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/78171287@N00/1261628145/in/photostream/
- Folded more than 100 origami cranes. I'm up to 110 cranes for the 1000 Cranes for Heroes project that's going on in support of the "Heroes" writers during this strike. I'm folding mine out of old comic books. The first 30 I did and a close-up.
- Tried escargot among other foods.
- Went to a Star Wars-specific convention, Celebration IV. I've been to nearly 30 cons, but had never been to one that was geared ONLY for Star Wars. Finally got to meet my friend Gina and her son Connor. I'd been talking to Gina online for many years. She also used to date another friend of mine, but since she lives down in San Diego, I rarely had an opportunity to meet her and we always somehow missed each other during Comic-Con.
- Shaved a band logo into someone's back hair. Proof. The V in the the circle is Zoso's band (Voidcrush)'s logo. I did the one on the right. That's Zoso's back. The guy on the left is Rob, the boyfriend of a friend of ours, who saw a picture of Zoso's back posted online for a flier, was inspired to join in and shaved the V in his chest hair himself.

More later if I can remember any.

Don't be afraid to add your own list or even add things as you do/experience something new.
