Yeah, it was pretty cheesy, but fun to watch at parts.

I don't know why, but it's so weird seeing Jet Li laugh.

I thought it was a little cheesy, but that was kind of its charm. Funny you mentioned TMNT 3 above, because when I was watching this those movies came to mind. It kind of had that nostalgic "I'm feeling like a kid again watching this" kind of atmosphere to it I'd say.

Definitely wasn't bad. The random kid was kind of awkward at times and really ... eh, out of place? Heh, but it was overall pretty enjoyable. Probably would've been something I'd watch repeatedly in my younger days.

I saw it earlier this afternoon.

It's like watching Hook with Chinese mythology in place of the Peter Pan legacy.

It's quite enjoyable, especially when they get to this 10-minute long fight scene of Jackie Chan and Jet Li just going at each other. What makes that all the more special is the fact that it's the two of them--not just when they need their faces on camera while two stuntman tear into each other. It's the real deal. (Yeah with wires and choreography courtesy of Woo-Ping Yuen, but still )

All right, so after going to a panel for the movie at Wizard World last week, the director said that the events in the movie lead up to Journey to the West. He said there are some aspects of Monkey's story he wishes he could have included, as well as other legendary characters, but he didn't want to take away too much from all of the people already in the leading roles.

Supposedly there may be a sequel which will explore more Chinese legends.

Collin Chou's hilarious in real life, by the way.

I think this movie will be epic, regardless of the lost traveler just because everyone was kicking the shit out of him in the trailer.

Yeah I'm not really a fan of the whole American-teenager-goes-back-in-time-somehow storyline that was ridiculously played out with the Kid in King Arthur's Court/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III generation.

I was entirely excited about this movie until I made that discovery about the "lost traveler" character.

Oh well, I'm just amused to see this match-up. Should still be entertaining.

Jet Li and Jackie Chan combine forces against Collin Chou. Where can it go wrong?

Also featured is the ultra-cute Liu Yifei.

Synopsis taken from IMDb:

An American teenager who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and kung-fu classics makes an extraordinary discovery in a Chinatown pawnshop: the legendary stick weapon of the Chinese sage and warrior, the Monkey King. With the lost relic in hand, the teenager unexpectedly finds himself traveling back to ancient China to join a crew of warriors from martial arts lore on a dangerous quest to free the imprisoned Monkey King.
