Holy crap, I don't know why he took it down. It was good.
Maybe it was getting more views than he meant it to? Kinda like the Numa Numa guy, he didn't really mean for the media to chase him down for interviews and such. |

I wanted to watch that speech again. Can't believe he took it off. XD |

Originally posted by Cyro Xero Yeah, good point. As my friends and I like to joke about it like ... "Google can get you better stuff, for free" etc. I mean, on one hand yeah I think a lot of designers and games don't depict us humans very realistically here but, isn't that case for just art in general and all forms of media? TV, movies, etc. Maybe I'm just a little pessimistic about it? I dunno. But yeah, in no way have I blatantly bought a game out of sexual interests or anything like that. If that makes sense. For me, I didn't consider buying Mass Effect for it's ultra "explicit" sex scene with that insanely intense shot of some curves of a blue alien butt ... Anyways, it'd be interesting to get some female input here. |

Indeed, Cyro. Killer7 got heat for its sex scene. I didn't know it had one until it came up. I was very pleased, but that's not the point. |

Gamers don't even buy games for the sex in it. Am I right? To those of you who have the God of War series, for example, did you even know the game had nudity in it when you first bought it? Do you see any advertisements in mags or on TV that indicate that there is sexual content in those types of games? Maybe I'm being naive, but when I see the "Mature" rating on games it indicates to me that there is a lot of blood and violence, not because of *GRAPHIC SEXUAL CONTENT!!* that seems to be exaggerated. |

Yeah, the worst part is (video touched upon this a bit) is that typically, for videogames at least, like 80% of the time people complaining and trying to bring down a game because of its supposed "explicit" content, haven't even played the game themselves at all. This has always really annoyed me.
Seriously, it's like trying to argue how good or bad a movie is without having seen it. Or a band that you haven't even heard, etc. |

Believe it or not, the film industry goes through the same thing. My brother and I watched a documentary a few months ago about the MPAA and how film producers, from the no-namers to people like Spike Lee and Tarentino, have had their movies rated R and NC-17 because of minute scenes in which they thought was something was too sexual. The same problem games are having. And I'm talking about some scenes, brief or long, that someone who had been in prison for a while wouldn't get a rise out of. I'm not exaggerating. Some of the scenes they showed were borderline, I'll agree to that, but really, these "judges" have no common sense.
The MPAA doesn't release information on who these people are that make the decision as to what a film should be rated, but the guys who made the documentary hired a mother-daughter team of P.I.'s to do some snooping around the MPAA building. These two women did some peeking, spying and made a few anonymous phone calls to get a hold of their names and faces, and did a good job of it. Get this- all of the 11 or so people who have been hired to do the movie ratings (this was done about a year ago, I believe) were those who are strongly against explicit scenes in the first place. And of those 11 people include a politician and 2 priests/pastors. Go monkey-figure.... It makes me wonder who the circle of friends are that do the ratings for video games. No offense to those who go to church. |

This is a pretty decent speech on sexuality and its being stifled in video games as an art form.
Amusingly enough, I bought a copy of that Leisure Suit Larry game they keep showing in the video for 50 cents at my local library's book sale. Yep, it's ALLLLLL about tricking girls into sleeping with you (although it throws up the CENSORED bars whenever anything below the waist comes out). Good speech. Link, if the embed craps out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pEquofR2r0 I figure since this isn't all out crazy and deals with current events, it really doesn't fit in Video Hut. |
