Tetris: The Movie
Thing is, I like a lot of movie based films, and I rarely enjoy the games based off films. I liked the Resident Evil trilogy, I liked the Silent Hill movie, I even enjoyed Super Mario Bros movie. Maybe I'm affected too much by nostalgia, but meh. |

People will always be torn on that movie.
As inaccurate and odd as it was ... I've always loved it. |

Vulkar, that hilarity was probably unintentional.
And insectduel, I'm pretty sure the movie came before SMW2 was made. |

Nothing worse than Super Mario Bros. The story is quite inaccuate before the relation on SMW2 Yoshi's Island for the Super NES. Most of stuff in the Mario Movie itself is inaccurate relation to the actual video game. |

Well, you know, Catwoman didn't really have good source material either.
Honestly, then I very much prefer games based on movies. The only reason that there are so many bad ones is because the people making those games don't quite understand that the game needs more than just voice acting from the movie stars to be good. Also, so many rely on cutscenes from the movies, which never works. However, like the Spiderman games, there are plenty of good examples. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King was a fun game, and Batman Begins, while not a great game, was fun to play. Game movies however pretty much always suck, the only exception being Tomb Raider, which unfortunately spawned a nearly identical sequel. They were both good, but not quite as good as they could have been. |

It's a pretty even split to me actually.
Good grief, the Catwoman game. But I can't really think of a GREAT movie that's based on a game, tbh. Street Fighter? Terrible. Mortal Kombat? Where's the story again? Silent Hill? Meh. The collective works of Uwe Boll? Yikes. Well Tomb Raider wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either. Still can't believe they're making a Pac-Man movie, though. |

Well, there is one good movie based on a game:

Movies based on games.
I haven't seen a game-based movie that I've liked. I have played movie-based games that I've liked. |

Originally posted by FXI loved Spider-Man 2. You can guess my disappointment after playing 3, expecting it to be the same as (or an improvement of) 2. Movie-based games have at least had some quality in them, compared to game-based movies. King Kong, for example, was surprisingly fun. A pretty solid FPS. |

Pretty simple.
Personally, I think that movies based on games are worse. For the first part, there's a decent number of games from movies that are awesome (First 2 Spider-Man games, Riddick), and even when they're mediocre, they have good moments (Bat Tank levels in Batman Begins); whereas movies based on games tend to be crap, with a few mediocre ones sprinkled in. |
