I agree... it may not stick to Doyle's writing perfectly but it looks like a movie that I will gladly pay $5 on a Saturday to go see.

While waiting for the two panels that followed it, we watched the pilot episode for CW's new series "The Vampire Diaries." They seriously started out the panel with, "The book our show is based on came BEFORE Twilight and ours is better!!" The show is pretty much the same premise as Twilight--vampires on Dawson's Creek featuring mortal Mary-Sueish girl with vampire pretending to be a high school student.

Heh, whenever the episode faded to black and then came back on everyone in the room groaned or loudly went, "AWWWWW!!" It's somewhat sad that people were showing such displeasure. I mean, the actors and people who made that show were in the room.

I wasn't at the Twilight 2 panel, but I've heard horror stories of a 50-something asking "Edward" and "Jacob" if they wear boxers or briefs or nothing.

I just think it's all funny.

I mean, there were people walking the convention floor brandishing cardboard signs that read, "TWILIGHT RUINED COMIC-CON!!" If Comic-Con was ruined for you because of a few screaming fans taking up the first day in one panel room, you're either an idiot who can't survive the first freaking day at Comic-Con or you're just plain shallow.

Every other person who has voiced a complaint listed what they believe "Comic-Con is for" and you know what's hilarious? "Comics" are either never on their list or they fall behind "anime," "video games," "movie premieres," etc.

Yep. Comic-Con can be an everything, alpha-omega convention but when something the "true geeks" don't like comes wafting through the doors bringing screaming "outsiders" with it, suddenly the "That doesn't belong here!!"s and "This ruins EVERYTHING!!"s come out.

The Mythbusters have been coming for the last couple years and not one person has complained about it. What do the Mythbusters have to do with comics... or anime... or science fiction? That's what I thought. Incidentally, every single Mythbusters panel has been FILLED with screaming and shouting men.

It's just sort of funny that 30, 40 and 50-something year old men can ogle and objectify a young, female panelist (Megan Fox, Hayden Panettiere, etc), but when the pendulum swings the other way it's pedophilic and creepy to the whole. Helllllllooooo, double standards.

So yeah, my thoughts on the Twilight controversy in a nutshell.

I had tons of fun at Con. It was really surreal and amazing this year.

Anyway, back on the topic of what's coming out that might be worth the time to watch it...

I may see the Wachowski-backed Ninja Assassin. It doesn't look great, but mindless action films, penned by comic book writers, just hits the spot sometimes.

And I don't care what anyone says, Sherlock looks damn entertaining.

Valhalla, I could kiss you for that.

But yeah... sadly, I know someone that was in that line and it makes me want to vomit a little.

Gods, what has happened to our movies?

Still looking forward to District 9, and really hoping that it isn't going to suck.

Was at Comic-Con last week. Usually they bring all the big name stars out to promote their upcoming movies, but there was seriously nothing I was that interested in (except for Iron Man 2, but I wasn't willing to fight my way into that panel room this year).

Tons of fangirls were camping out for the Twlight 2 panel. The panel wasn't until Thursday afternoon and and they had already started camping Tuesday.

There was apparently a lot of drama over it because most of the people waiting that long were mothers who were obsessing over the books and movies even moreso than their daughters.

Harry Potter was alright... WAY too much relationship stuff though. I got so tired of watching various members of the cast look longingly to their cherished other while they were hitting on someone else. Boo hoo, get over it.

Minus that though, it was a decent-ish use of two and a half hours.

Although it was really tempting to yell out "SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE AT TWO HOURS TWELVE" or whatever time in the movie it occured.

Sherlock looks brilliant, saw a trailer for it when I saw HP6. Amusingly, that was probably the best part of HP6... The freaking Sherlock trailer before it.

I saw Moon. It's an AMAZING movie. It's the kind of cerebral science fiction art that fell victim to the massive growth of CGI-enhanced, super action-packed science fiction. While each is to be appreciated, movies like this are seriously a breath of fresh air.

Well, the second one was definitely better than the first. And the third was all right. Nothing really special, but still watchable.

But hitting a fourth film... already? That's overkill. Really, what more is there to tell? They've already got kids and the franchise is dwindling.

Summer 2010 will be interesting. To me, anyway. Iron Man 2, The Last Airbender, yet another take on Robin Hood, The A-Team (this should NOT have been made ), a Predator franchise reboot (enough with these already!!), Toy Story 3, Gulliver's Travels starring Jack Black, yet another Shrek movie, and capping it all with Prince of Persia starring Jake Gyllenhaal (which will be going up against Sex and the City 2).

I was excited about Green Hornet coming out until I heard Stephen Chow dropped out recently. Damn it...

I'm sorry, but the new Harry Potter movie sucked... it was the longest highlight reel ever with almost no explanation and they did things that were not in the books at all. Also, explain how the Christmas scene looks like it was shot in mid-august. But yeah, everyone I know that has seen it was disappointed in it.

Sherlock looks really cool, as does 9 and Inglorious Bastards. I also want to see Moon, but I need to figure out when it will be a theater near here. But yeah, even the so so movies will be good for me this year, since there is an AMC near my house and they have all movies are $5 if you go before noon on weekends.

Inglorious Basterds is coming out this year? Heh, totally seeing that. I wonder if it's based on Inglorious Bastards, which was pretty much The Dirty Dozen gone wild. Bastards, however, didn't have a commanding officer demanding 50 Nazi scalps from each of the men present, though.

Sherlock I want to see. I might wait for it to hit the cheap theaters, but I know I'll be entertained by it.

I also remembered... The Princess and the Frog, Disney's first 2D in 5 years (not that I saw Home on the Range), is coming out this December. It will be starring the very first black Disney princess. I'll probably see it some time.

Movies to watch this year:

*Harry Potter if you haven't already seen it. Best one yet.

*9 (I'm personally excited for it.)

*Taking Woodstock (Demetri Martin in a starring role. Yes/Yes?)

*Moon (A sci-fi movie directed by David Bowie's son getting rave reviews. I smell awesome.)

*Inglourious Basterds (Tarantino movie. Always worth seeing, even if you don't like them.)

*Avatar (James Cameron one.)

*Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock, Jude Law as Watson. Yippee!)

and of course, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE. HOLY FUCKING SHIT IS IT GOING TO BE AMAZING OR WHAT.

I honestly think that it looks like a movie that will have a sucky story, but be fun to watch. Basically just a heavily stylized movie with no substance.

But hey, it has Chrisopher Ecchelston in it, so that brings it up just a little.

G.I Joe, those suits look like the suits from that one Football anime. As long as the Cobra kill all the Joes, the movie will rock. I hate the Joes. Only the Cobra were cool (generally, some exceptions).

I'll wait for the rifftrax version of Transformers 2, might actually be good then.

G.I. Joe looks like it could be horribly bad, I guess we'll have to see though.

Harry Potter? It's recieving great reviews left and right, so I'm looking forward to it. I'm probably going to go see it at midnight with my friends, too.

Seriously.

With Watchmen, Star Trek, Terminator, and Wolverine on their way to video and DVD, is there anything anyone else was waiting for with bated breath?

EDIT: Adding Transformers 2 (which has already been out), and perhaps G.I. Joe (Aug. 7) to the list.

I know there are several projects I'm interested in that probably won't have their movies out for a year or more (Iron Man 2, etc), but I was referring to this summer. Did all the big ones already pass?
