I basically will not do this! I like Cartoon characters but I will not use my cartoon pic on Facebook unless it's myself as a cartoon. |

Oh god, so now people are saying this trend was started by pedophiles who try to friend kids by having a cartoon character as their profile pic and are insisting that people who have cartoon profile pics just might be child molesters now.
No links or news stories to back this information. Don't you just love when memes and the stories around them get out of hand? If only we could get rumors off the ground that people who Rickroll others are Satan-worshiping child molesters or something.  |

I changed my picture to one of Beetlejuice and Lydia. Then when somebody mentioned something about paedophilia, I felt really bad... especially when I said "So, can I watch your kids?" after I thought she was joking. Ironically, I'm actually watching her son today. 
I refuse to change my pic simply out of principle, but I've been sorely tempted. |

Well I understand doing it just for fun. The meme started just for that.
And I get awareness. AIDS ribbons show support for sufferers of it. Cancer events caution people to get checked out and make sure they don't have it. I do the breast cancer thread every year, and hell, Tom Green did a song about feeling your balls. Guess what? Someone did, discovered they had a lump, got a physical, and saved himself before it was too late. But I just don't understand how seeing cartoon characters is going to inspire an abusive parent to suddenly not harm their child. It's more preaching to the choir, I suppose. |

E- What I ment to say is that I basically did this for fun. Saying child abuse should be ignored? No! But to be honest I only did this because it was fun being a cartoon character. This says a lot according to the 'Prevention' this whole cause was for. But this should also say a lot to many other things. Running for breast cancer. Having ribbons on your car for AIDS, etc. This is basically just an awareness for the whole deal. |

No child that was slapped today is going to suddenly not be slapped tomorrow because a lot of people on Facebook changed their profile pictures to reflect their favorite cartoons growing up. Not on Facebook? Apparently the delusional, youth culture of Facebook believe the site is a world-changing factor in reducing child abuse cases. Know Your Meme. |
