Kaijin - the latest rendition of version 1 that I am seeing is 110% better than it was last time I looked at it! =D Also, I do agree that if the primary audience is 40+ years old, the font should be serif. Everything looks good to me. My image design side is still twitching at the gif links, but other than that, looks pretty professional to me. 4.5/5 |

I do believe my soul died a little just then, since I was starting to get "Minor" change requests with a lot of my work >.> |

I know what you mean by the boldening of Quest, but the probelm is I'm not capable of it, ahaha. I was using an interesting text generator to get it, and just couldn't get it to stand out anymore then that.
When I'm editing the page, I see the bullets, but I just can't see them when I preview the page. I'm not sure what the deal is. Then again, they hired me to tweak the layout, not for my ignorance of tweaking graphics. Edit: Div Tables confuse the hell out of me. x.X Alex: I understand what you mean by that. I just changed the bottom links to match the rest, however I'm leaving it on New Times Roman. You see, a lot of the customers that go through there are middle age, and over. In a statistical study, Serif (for thoes of you who don't know, that's the style font with little wings and tips hanging off the letters) is actually easier on the eyes to read then Sans. Edit 2: OMFG I'm finally bloody done making Version 1 uniformed with all it's pages. x.X |

After looking at the made-over Version 1, I think I would choose that one, but yeah, the bullet points need to be tweaked as they are right on the border. If you bring the text in a little more on the right side as well it would be make it easier on the eye.
In page editing we're taught that everything should be separated by at least a pica to give things room to breathe. I think the "Quest" in the banner should be a little bolder to make it stand out a little more. Otherwise, it's definitely an improvement over all. |

V2 banner is far better, but the V1 layout is superior (but it needs some tweaking around the bullets parts).
Also, for the love of the web, don't use gif images ever. Use at least medium high quality JPEGs or PNG-24. It will improve the quality of the images astronomically. And don't stretch any image to be larger, only shrink, and make sure the aspect ratio is maintained. Another pro-tip - don't use serif fonts! Serif fonts make it look amateur-ish and old-school. Pick a nice standard sans-serif font (helvetica, verdana, etc) or make all font styles the same (links are sans-serif and text is serif right now). I would also recommend trying to use div tags for the layout rather than tables, but that's just me pushing modern standards. =X Looks like a great start, just needs some polish. 3/5 |

Think I prefer V1, but I like V2's spacing better with the text. It looks like the text gets too close to the edge in V1 or something like that. |

FYI, Version 1 just went through a crazy face lift. Check it out and re-vote if you want

Version 2 is cleaner, therefore, better.
With Version 1, the text is right up against the border making it harder on the eye, and the banner is definitely better in Version 2 as well. Like Thex, I'm definitely not a fan of the scroll. |

That would probably explain why it's smaller on the second one, then.
Its placement in the sidebar is also a better choice than putting it on the right and shoving the text around it, so yeah. Second design's better. |

When it comes to the parchment, I can agree with you.
Boss wanted it on the site, regardless of what I thought though, lol. |

The banner of the second one is clearly superior, in that it's clearer and actually relevant to what the site is for. In the first one, the word "Quest" is almost impossible for me to read, being largely dark green on dark blue, and the background picture has nothing to do with bookkeeping or tax preparation.
The layout of the second site also looks cleaner, in part because of using a less ugly shade of grey on the left bar and in part because there's some space between each button. I'm of the opinion that the parchment scroll graphic is ugly in both, however. |

Version 1
Version 2 Edit: Wow, the New Poll button just made it a thread o.O Anyway I'm the new System Administrator, as well as the Web Master for Quest Bookkeeping, and I was curious as to what all of you thought looked better. Version 1, or Version 2. And for technical reasons, please elaborate as to why you think your choice is better then the other one. |
