I made a post about it in the Last Movie thread, but yeah, I also enjoyed it. Cumberbatch made a perfect Smaug... absolutely perfect.
Honestly, the Legolas/Tauriel thing seemed kinda forced... to a deuce ex machina extent even. Though I fully believe that Legolas himself would have been at least a cameo in the original Hobbit book had Tolkien come up with him at that point so I had no issue with him being in the movie. Tauriel was created for the film to give a strong female role to a story that had none, which on the one hand I get and kinda like... but firstly, the story didn't really need it, and secondly, I don't think she is really that strong of a female character. Her entire personality seems to be tied to the relationships she has with Legolas and Kili... not very "strong woman" in my opinion. |

I am bumping this a bit because the new Hobbit finally came out.
Thoughts? I personally really enjoyed it, though I was fairly annoyed with where they ended the movie. Also, even though he wasn't in the book, Legolas is always fun to see killing some orcs. |

Normally I hate reaction videos, but that was freaking hilarious. |

Lee Pace, Orlando Bloom, and Evangeline Lilly recorded themselves reacting to a fan's reaction video to watching the trailer.

That Q&A segment was great, and I loved the special guests! Actually some really great questions there... I wouldn't have even thought to ask about the elves of Mirkwood. |

I keep looking up the scene with Radagast outrunning the waugs.
"These are Rhosgobel rabbits. I'd like to see them try!" might as well have been, "These are Rhosgobel rabbits. Your argument is invalid." Ah, Sylvester McCoy, I love your crazy ass. Even when you're passionately yelling at a trash can at Gallifrey and freaking out all the ConOps around me. |

Just putting this here.

Originally posted by Elara Yeah, I think he only really does that since it was just him singing as opposed to doing a full music video. Not sure if it was to differentiate that himself in each shot or to give it some movement. He's more well-known for the videos he does with other people where (except for the occasional violin) all of the instruments are just HIS voice: But yeah, the ponies. In order to make it look like regular-sized people on regular-sized horses were dwarves on ponies, they put these Fun Fur costumes on the horses to make them look like furry Icelandic ponies, and while it was fine in some shots, it was so distracting for me for some reason. |

I didn't really notice the ponies that much, but now I won't be able to avoid them. Seriously though, I am holding off on the buying of the blu ray so that I can get the extended version when it's put out (because we all know there will be one)
In the meantime, Netflix! And Rogue, that song is awesome. I don't really care for the soprano voice... it seems odd for a song sung by dwarves... but otherwise this is just awesome. Also, wow, his head bobs around a lot. And then I found this.... |

Yeah, it came out on DVD today. I saw it in the cheap theater, which usually has movies just before they go to DVD and even after they do.
I mentioned it on Facebook, but one of my least favorite aspects would be the Fun Fur "ponies." It's weird, but whenever they showed them, they were just distracting to me. |

Picked it up at Wal*Mart for $16 today. I thought it was still in theaters so I was rather shocked to see the cardboard cutout for it. |

Finally saw it, and in 3D. I liked it a lot, though it seemed like they were all too lucky all the time.
Also, what's with the lack of blood? Anyway, now I can fully appreciate this: |

I've really been wanting to see this but I've been completely strapped for cash this entire holiday. |

I'm definitely stoked to see it, possibly tomorrow or something soon. |

I saw it Friday.
Pretty awesome movie. It's interesting though, I think that a lot of people went in there expec ting Lord of the Rings, but the Hobbit (even the book) is such a different style and flavor that I almost wonder if some people will be disappointed. That said though, I like how these movies seem to emphasize the mythology of Middle Earth more than the Lord of the Rings, talking about the Witch King and all of that. Good movie. |

So I saw it in IMAX 3D today... it was fucking awesome! Honestly though, could have done without the 3D.
But yeah, the part where the dwarves are singing gives me chills every time I hear it. I do have to say though that I don't really like the version of the Song of The Lonely Mountain that they play during the credits since it doesn't use the lyrics from the book from what I can tell. |

I know I've posted that video somewhere else.
Nightfall in Middle Earth was my intro album to Blind Guardian... and still the only physical album I have. |
