Made it to Ridgecrest, but the car broke down along the way. Had to have it towed from the middle of the desert to the nearest big town (Victorville) and then get picked up by Brandon's mom and brother. Took us 11 hours to make it here and we're out our car which might need a new transmission.

Oh boy...

I'm still stuffed from yesterday, haha. Sister made a big breakfast then we had ham for dinner.

Also I FINALLY watched Forrest Gump. My whole family has been giving me crap about it for years now haha, so it was on TV and we watched it. Well I can see what the fuss was about, awesome movie.

That's great news! Happy holidays!

I've been watching "A Christmas Story" on a loop thanks for TBS, but when I switched it up to watching my dad's old VHS copy of "It's A Wonderful Life" I kept crying (happy tears). Didn't realize how much more I'd appreciate this now that I'm older. I hadn't really watched it all the way through since I was kid.

As am I... I think it is much better for you to be out of that environment.

So plans today are steak and twice-baked potatoes (would do prime rib but too expensive) and perhaps going to see the Hobbit... going to go open the few presents we physically have, since a lot of things this year were early (hockey game, reaper miniatures, etc)

Holiday plans? Well... last night, I passed by my parents' house and noticed there were presents thrown all over the lawn, a window was broken, and a chair was flipped over. Mom and dad have been drinking again. My plans? I'm avoiding them like the plague for a few days, then I'm having a good long chat with them about their behavior.

Counting down the hours 'til we leave for Ridgecrest.

Merry Christmas, everyone, and have a sensational Saturnalia.

Soooo much chocolate.

Got two lame cards for my family and threw some checks in them, haha. But I wrote some stuff out that hopefully makes up for it.

Never liked pumpkin... but for some reason pumpkin muffins sounds good.

Xeo, the Mojave this time of year is pretty mild (which makes it ideal for hiking and exerting one's self without getting heatstroke), though it dips into below freezing at night.

Right now I'm making bullshit two-ingredient pumpkin muffins because I completely forgot my friends were having a Christmas party. Gah!!

Had a Yule party yesterday that was pretty fun, and doing gift exchange with the gamers this upcoming Friday/Sat. Given the adventure that I just came back from, not a whole lot planned besides work and hopefully video games.

Looks pretty awesome. How's the temp there?

Sadly I have no idea what's going to happen. For starters my whole family did finally get super sick with some stomach bug and now I think I'm feeling pretty feverish myself, I still haven't even gotten gifts haha great. Also with a few deaths in the family over the years, they were ones that held really big chunks of our family together and the grandma we see the most is leaving for Chicago to have Christmas this time out there with my uncle and them. So I think this year it'll literally just be my immediate family and that's it.

In a way I'm kind of seeing it as a break though. Always had like 2-4 Christmas' growing up (but hey that was awesome as a kid getting lots of gifts haha). But yeah, going to be a bit more low key this year.

So... what's going on with everyone this holiday season? Travel plans? Kicking it at home?

We're heading out to the Mojave again. This time a little longer, probably the better part of a week. Lots of good hiking, but Ridgecrest itself has nothing particularly interesting.

Here's pictures from my last trip:

Us walking around a living ghost town with abandoned mines. semi-pretending we're Courier 6 from Fallout: New Vegas.

Hiking in Short Canyon.

Went on a hike with Brandon's parents before heading back toward home. We stood on top of a cage over an abandoned mine shaft and walked around some house ruins. Visited the Antelope Valley Indian Museum on the way home and stopped by a bunch of movie sets. And there's my feta and pastrami burger I had in Palmdale.
