And yeah... so apparently we are now going to promote the idea that only American military involvement matters? As if we are not nationalistic enough.

Could be worse, they could've renamed it to "Freedom Channel".

=P

Very true... honestly, I am surprised now that they didn't.

*SIGH*

Katana pretty much anticipated my comments... but seriously... what the fuck?

Also, like Vulkar, while I am appreciative of our military veterans, I do not think that this level of hero worship is healthy for our country. The greatest military hero ever in my opinion is Cincinnatus, the Roman farmer who became a General then Dictator during a war, then gave up all that power to return to his farm. When our nation was founded he was held up as an ideal (we have an Order of Cincinnatus for crying out loud) and George Washington was compared to him constantly for trying to do the same thing.

Of course, if we don't look at Roman military history, we never learn about him, now do we?

Ahahahahaha. COPS. I legitimately REALLY liked that show when I was like 5.

But honoring heroes is great, don't get me wrong. I wasn't an avid watcher of the military channel, but if I understand correctly, it was supposed to be like the history channel's intent, which was to mostly educate on things that happened. While one could argue that military history and US/World history are one in the same, as far as the idea of learning about the past, I could see why there'd be a separation. I think of it more or less as a category of information, but they still intertwine.

Hey, I'm pretty sure I didn't even know that there WAS a Military Channel. That said though, I really feel as though the Military gets a ton of credit and thanks, which, granted, is really warranted, I am grateful for anyone who serves my country, but policemen and firemen risk their lives every day too. It's nice to see them maybe get some credit here too.

But nonstop reruns of COPS man!

Only...the space race WAS a military thing...Dude, there's even audio proving that Kennedy cared more about kicking Russia's ass than he did for the idea of "discovery". Or am I wrong?

Honestly, if they wanted to narrow in on this kind of thing, why not make another channel? Personally, I don't mind having 40billion channels. I'd rather a channel for something I don't watch that something actually educational to change for the worse (as Elara has mentioned the many times she expressed distaste for the History Channel.)

And didn't the Military Channel cover ALL sorts of military history? From a world history perspective as well? If that's the case, then I'd say its pretty relevant to keep the way it is. History is extensive. If these channels were going to be truly educational to the extent that they could be, then there really IS room for channels JUST dedicated to a specific era. Whole channels. (I also don't really understand how broadcasting works, so the cost of this may not be worth it, now that I think about it.

**sigh** I'll quit here.

Thoughts?

The channel would not be military-exclusive. The linked article mentions they'll do pieces on NASA scientists during the Space Race, etc.
