The first one is my favourite, while I feel with the third one that 'post for fun' should apply for every good forum around |

Glad you enjoyed the old tales.
I just dug these up: And my first favorite avatar I used back in the day, tempting to use it again! |

That was much worth reading, thanks for digging that up. |

I dug up this gem for some history.
Not sure how accurate that all is. Even though the earlier incarnations of the board were very active I think they were super fast and short lived. I would guess it's probably ~15 years total for how long I've been doing this. Almost half my life now... hmmm... lol. I've... seen things. |

I guess the board will start getting acne now
Joking aside, this must be the oldest AB around. You should be proud of that. x') |

Is it really 13 years old? That's pretty great.
13 years ago... I was a 11/12 year old who had never even been on the internet. |

I was going to post about that then couldn't bothered. Wanted a staff member to do it. :p
Still, 13 years is a long time, let's hope for at least another 2 years |

I actually had about 500 posts there, I used to think Vizzed was cool until a while ago, it probably already degraded but I didn't really notice it that much until more recent events. |

Originally posted by Luigi442wii I recall you making like 6 posts there. I also recall you joining around 2014 or 2015, not sure which. By then, the community had already degraded. What you were experiencing was slow-burn. It was always "bad" during the time you were a member. It used to be really cool between 2010-2013 or so, I remember days where there were well over 1000+ posts by the entire community, and where some of those 1000 weren't garbage. As for bans... I've only really ever been banned from Jul. But that's Jul for you. |

Thoughtless?!?!
Truth be told Luigi, I got banned from Acmlm's... then a few years later was a local mod and an admin for a brief stint before the weird IIbass era and that community shattered, haha. People can turn things around! I was banned along with Randy for mass PM'ing people to join our board, lmao. |

I left vizzed ages ago because it indeed felt like a chore to be there and the community was seriously degrading over a very short period of time.
I've only been around ABs since early 2014 and managed to get my arse permabanned at nearly every single one of them, I'm probably the only person here who is under legal drinking age or so and is active here (xkitten and Super-toad 65 have recently posted but they have never really been active here)... Sometimes I wish I could have experienced some of the old drama myself because I was never around or was too young for most of it. |

I remember when the DCMA came down I was initially relieved just because it meant the annoying 10 year olds would go away and stop spamming the boards to play Pokemon. But yeah, I am glad that some of us AB still exist, just for us old coots... and even places likke Vizzed that do tend to pander to teens... because it gives them a different experience than the world of Twitter, Facebook, and... ugh... Tumblr.
That said, I do miss a lot of our vets being more active, though I do love that they pop in from time to time. I about pissed myself when I saw Thoughtless post recently. |

Yeah, Cyro Xero is still around over there, but I wouldn't call him active over there either. Just sticks out more since his username is so bright, and he's easier to see
When it comes to staying loyal to one place, I guess we're all guilty of it to some degree. Like, obviously I don't have 25,000 posts at more than one forum. It's rather difficult to do it in one place, let alone several haha. I think a lot of what drives this perceived loyalty, ends up just being perceived activity. Despite low activity for Vizzed, for example, it's still more active than most Acmlm Boards. I don't know if I've seen one that is as active as that one is, although 99% of what is said is total junk, and not worth saying in the first place. But when you have a site that panders to teenagers, I'm not sure what one expects. I don't know, that whole side of things is worlds behind me at this stage. I haven't been "active" anywhere for a long time. |

That rings a bell, Nintendo doesn't mess around with that stuff.. since they want to legally sell their own roms.
You'll probably notice some people like Cyro Xero and whatnot were here at some point. It surprises me that a handful of veterans like him are still active over there, not that I have any hard feelings about it at all, but I tend to think a lot of these people just quit AB's entirely and then notice a handful of them just decided to stay loyal to another place. Strange surprises sometimes. |

Originally posted by Xeoman I don't remember if they were in a Kotaku article or not, but Vizzed did have to remove a ton of games because of a Nintendo DMCA. I don't know where the original thread outlining it was, but essentially Nintendo forced Vizzed to remove basically every game anyone would ever want to play there, Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc. He may have moved the thread out of the Elite forums, but the first DMCA had a list of literally thousands of urls and games, and more than a few users have pinpointed and put the blame on a singular user (who is still, somehow, allowed on the site anyway but whatever). The second one dealt with a workaround that was found, that allowed users to play the removed games anyway. It was an ugly mess, and I'm not even all that sad about it. David was playing with fire for years with Vizzed, and now that the flame finally bit him, it's been an odd year and a half or so of things. The lower activity can be blamed on Nintendo, but there are a lot of factors. The community just continues to degrade, and it's no longer an enjoyable place to be. More than a few regular users have quit out of disgust, but they'll probably be back. Vizzed is a black hole. |

We're still around and not really going anywhere. XG could use some new blood though, like you! Hehe. A lot of people have moved on and whatnot, which is fine. But yeah I'd love to see some more regulars around here again.
I even saw Vizzed in a Kotaku article a few months ago... because they had to remove roms or something I think. |

Yeah, it's one thing I really feel kind of sad about, because I got into the board scene really late in the game.
I like forums and boards a lot more than the current trend towards social media like commenting. It feels a lot more direct, and personal, and lends itself better to a long running dialogue between groups of people with like-minded interests. I had a few good years of experiencing that, but again, since I got into it so late, it feels as if I may have just been born at the wrong time. Vizzed is an interesting place, but it has also dipped severely in activity over the past couple years. Was super active for a good many years, which made me think that boards could last even in this new "era" of sorts, but with diving activity, I'm not so sure that's still the case. Would really like to be proved wrong on that one. |
