Uh, I honestly can't remember ... I think it just magically happened.
More than likely Kindgergarden, and my parents. |

I, uh... I don't remember. I know I was reading a while before I started school, but I'm pretty sure my grandparents aren't smart enough to teach me how to read. Watching them belittle one of my cousins while they try to teach her comes to mind as a reason I think that. I know I learned how to read before I started living with my mother, but... Argh, damn this crappy memory! |

Ironically, I taught myself to read...
Nobody else ever really told me to read or taught me, I just picked up books and became interested in reading... In 6th grade I had a college level reading level... This is one of the reasons I tend to correct people alot, I hold incompetence in high disregard and due to the fact that I have a much higher reading level than most of my peers, the level of incompetence around me just seems to increase... It's a vicious cycle... |

My parents taught me, long before I ever saw the inside of a school. |

I didn't learn to read till they started to teach me at school. That's because my parents are immigrants and their english wasn't very good, so they couldn't teach me to read in a language they didn't understand. I learned all my english, speaking, reading and writting from school. |

My dad taught me for the most part, though I think my brother helped as well... so I had a basic ability to read before I went into kindergarten, otherwise the school did the rest. I'm still not sure when my reading level surpassed everyone else in my class, but it was fairly early. |

I learned to read mostly before school too. In second grade I was the best in the class in reading and spelling and by third grade I had a 12th grade/college reading level.
I don't really remember that anyone exactly TAUGHT me. Mom read the Hobbit to me and my brother when we were little but I don't remember anyone teaching me, like sitting down with me and teaching me how to read. |

I actually learned to read before I went to school, I was taught by my mom. |

Sadly enough, I didn't really know how to read until I was 8. I'm not an easy person to teach and I usually have to teach myself things in order to understand them.

This just poped in my head a few seonds ago and I thought it would be interesting to find out how each one of you was taught how to read.
It was my dad and mum who taught me how to read. When I was little they used to read me a book, they would read a sentence and I would have to copy what they said, I didn't understand most of the words but just copying what my parents said helped me |
