**bops Beo** of course you know I'm going to say that I think you should go as well...why? Because it's only a trial type thing. So what if it isn't what you really wanna do with yourself in college...I mean I can't to become a director/producer, but my fall-backs are in art, astronomy, music, and english...yes I've stayed weekends at colleges or gone to worshops or something for colleges that have nothing close to what I want...why did I go? because it gives you important experience. I personally find it to be a waste to just assume that you know what type of college that you want to go to, blow all that money, and decide that you didn't like it...if they're paying for it, then this is an opportunity that you should realize...If I had it, I would gladly take it. So don't waste it. **hugs** I know you don't like the idea of it being for deaf people or something...but you know...like I said...it's the experience of trying it out, ya know? This isn't permanent...it's just something they're asking you to try out and see if you like.

Taking opportunities such as this, and other initiatives, is a very smart thing to do, and it'll save you money. You may end up going to the most expensive college in the world, but you know what? These experience will STILL have saved you money...because it gives you an idea of what you may like and what you may not like, and no matter the price of where you end up going, you'll know, or be the most sure that you can possibly be, that it's the place for you.

EDIT: and Beo...I don't give a shit if you're deaf, blind, or whatever...people have done great things with their lives and the lives of others, despite any type of obstacle in their way. And just because you're deaf, that doesn't make you any less or greater a person. Your true friends and the people that truly matter will love you all the same no matter what, like I do So don't let that hold you back in any way shape or form, you got me?

You should go. It's perfectly resonible for you to go there, and if anybody bothers you, go to a member of the administration.

Lastly, they would have you all in your own beds.

well none of can force you to do anything its all a state of mind do you need to... being deaf has nothing to do with it, if you are completely or even partsial it doesnt matter int is based on your brain if your deaf well its not your falut and you dont mean to be... look at ray charles he was a genus who played a paino ..and he was blind... many people had disablilitys look at bush isnt he disxlextic or something. you go where you need to go to succsed in life, if i doesnt turn out that way keep trying. just think of all the great people who had disablilitys but did so much ..

I think by "sharing the shower" he ment just like at home. Unless your room has it's own pivate bathroom I am sure you and your family all use the same shower. I've never in my life heard of dorms sharing showers like that... keep in mind that I AM in college.

But yeah, if they are paying for it, whether you end up going to the school or not, I say you should go... I mean, c'mon Beo it's a free trip to New York!

Well... I am guessing they are paying the trips through.

Even through it is just one week away from my brother, how I do know I would run into about 50 more students who acted like my brother? Or as least get shot for some reasons too. (Which would be the Nightmare of a Week.)

And the shower thingy? My brother told me. They have to share the shower and the idea of the bathroom would be to sickening for me.

Even if it is just for one week away from home, I manage to stay at Washington D.C. for 3 days with Dad, and 3 days at Chicago with my dad as well. Except I didn't get homesick at all. But going solo to a new place? Hey, I like going somewhere alone alot but into another country without knowing where I am at and what am I suppose to do. Plus, it is a huge place too... there are bound to be some social (knight) running everyone and talk people to death.

I guess I am really going to pick a different college instead. It just doesn't seem the "right" college for me, since I was in middle and in high school without any special teacher. And look how I am. I can still use my grammar better and I haven't suck at everything else. Plus, I did work harder too...

Why would I have to go there if I learned by some teachers who doesn't think me as a complete deaf student but also a good student too? Beside, I still find it discrimating-like to be away from people who aren't deaf yet.

I gotta second Deesee on this one. Where the hell did you get the idea that you have to share a shower? You have a private bathroom like you do in a house in a dorm, you just usually have a roommate who sleeps in a separate bed. If you don't want to deal with that you could try and get a private room, but yeah.

I really just see it as they want you to try it out because then all the teachers are used to teaching deaf students so they are better able to educate. It would not kill you to at least give it a shot, since it is only for one week (look at it as getting away from your brother). Besides, as Bishop-Luc said, it's a chance to see New York.

Are they paying for the trip? That is the big question.

Beowulf Cor Leonis, from what I have read all their doing is trying to help. If you think its offensive that they send you over there, then say it too them and don't go. It would only be for a week, it wouldn't kill you. I get homesick a lot, especially on camps, but it's part of life. You will soon have to leave home and venture off into the world by yourself. It's an experience.

I’m not sure what the colleges are like over there, but here you have your own shower space, you may have to bunk with someone, but it would be separate beds. And one of the things you will encounter at college/school is people, whether your anti-social or not you still talk to people and hey you might even enjoy interacting with other kids there. Just because you had a bad experience with other deaf people doesn’t mean their all the same.

And like Bishop-Luc mentioned, go check out New York, I’m sure there is loads you can do in a big city like that

But to answer your question, I reckon you should go.

Ummm... that's a good idea except you got a major flaw in it. If I go over there for a whole week, get homesick and can't return back to homeland (because I gotta wait for a whole week to pass by), how would I return then? I gotta wait there for a whole week, (hey, it was enough for me to handle my brother's dorm for a while.)

And beside having a better "education," I think they want me to be in a "safe enviornment" which I kinda find offensive through. I mean, being with the same kind of people. That isn't right for me... I rather be with people doesn't gave a crap about hearing thingy and still not deaf.

I rather be where there are student who can as least respect for those they are, not a school where certain students are allow. It is more like "safe-harm" environment for me.

I don't know. It seems as if it's a good deal, but then again, with your personality type, and disability, it might be hard to get around in a big city like that. It all comes down to what you want. If you want to go to the school then do it. I suggest you chack it out, and if you don't like it, and you get homesick, then don't go.

I'll tell you what it sounds like to me.

It sounds like they don't want to put any effort into helping you. I was in almost the same situation back in seventh grade, but it was my temper that was problematic and not my hearing. Rather than do anything to help, their first thought was to send me to a residential school. I've got a long story I could go into there, but I'm not going to since it's irrelevant.

Alone, you won't accomplish much arguing with them, I'd bet. Try talking to your parents about it, and see if they're willing to help.

You assume right. (And this time, you didn't bother me at all! Thanks for the understanding!)

The problem is they view it as a good sign and chance for a "better life" and make new friends (yeck, please understand. I was never into "new friends") even if they are deaf... Well... I can't really handle being with deaf people considering my bad experience with few. (Honestly, I do!)

I don't know if they want me to do it or not, I just found that as pushing me and trying to... well, get me a "better college" as they said.

Heck, I find non-deaf people easy to befriend instead of being with deaf people. (I told you, I had a bad experience with deaf people.) If they kept begging to me go over there for a whole week, I may rather find a hotel room instead of living in a Dorm. Heck, the thought of yaoi deaf people can be sickening too... *Starting to barf...*

Well... the problem is still the problem itself. Other people see it as a good oppurtunity, I find it very discrimating-like since this is a college for deaf people... If it were for anyone, I would have gone there then... But still, people put too much pressure on a person like me to think of something that is "better" for themselves. As if they were try to help people by getting involved.

In New York? I assume you don't live in New York?

I don't see where they have a right to uproot you from your life for a whole week. And you shouldn't have to go. You clearly don't want to, and so you shouldn't have to.

Up until now, I thought it would be worse or not...

The question is, should I or should I not go to the college for Deaf People in New York for a whole week?

How does this happened? Well, because I am deaf (that explain why my grammar was bad every now and then) and so on, the high school staff decide I should spend a whole week at this college for deaf people. The problem is, it is a whole week and it is in New York.

I didn't think they would offer me this crazy deal. The facts is... I am not going to be happy if they offer me a deal to check a college for ONLY deaf people and not non-deaf college as well.

Here is what I thought:

- The college is actually in New York. The huge difference is, I get homesick very easy and this is a whole week...
- I am a private person and anti-social. Making "new friends" isn't really what I want since you guys provided enough... Not to mention that they could not be too friendly with me either.
- Discrimation is what I also felt too. It is easy for them to say to check this college for deaf people, but that doesn't make me feel more welcome at all. It is basically saying "I am here to separate you from your fellow friends. You were born to kill." (Without any killing going on.)
- Shower, bedding, etc... Like I said, I am a private person and anti-social. I don't want people peeking me while I take a shower... However, I could sleep with someone else in the same room but not on the same bed. (Sick brother.)

I just honestly think I should sit this one out. What good does it come out with? (Xeogred, don't say I should go over there and ask everyone about this website, because I will NOT!)

However, please give me your opinion too...
