Im with you they didnt have to mess with this classic...O well.

O_o Didn't we all point out that Tim Burton in fact did not darken the story? O_o

AND that Tim Burton tried to stay true to the book. Where the original movie had major differences with the book.

I finally saw it. It turned out to be really good. tim Burton did not darken it. The only MAJOR difference in plot line would be the fact that they told more about why Willy Wonka is such a nut case. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I loved it. I went to see it with Xeios and Caiori a week ago...and I really was amazed. Naturally, I've noticed certain things that were changed. (Violet originally went to the factory with her father, and Mike TV went with his mother) Little things like that were changed, some was taken out all together, but only two of the parts that were taken out I actually missed. Otherwise...kickass movie. I'm no fangirl of Johnny Dep, but I will say that I too admire his talent. The man is amazing. I really liked him as Wonka too...though Gene Wilder(sp?) was cool as well...(Gene is the original Wanka)

I liked the movie not as good as the original but still pretty good. But my favorite part was the oompa loompa songs. I loved those. But still i think gene wilder did a better job. But Johnny Depp was pretty good but in the words of charlie bucket "He had wierd hair."

I liked the movie.

I was actually blown away. I thought I'd be dissapointed. But I loved it more than the original.

They leave out a few parts that were in the original. Like the nightmare part of the boat ride. But you get over it quickly.

The only thing I didn't like was the majority of the Oompa Loompa songs. They were a bit to much for me.

I've seen the movie and it really wasn't that bad. Yes, it was much darker than either the book or the original movie but it gave everything an interesting twist.
I really liked because of the insight it gave us into Will's psyche. He was a very disturbed candy maker, I won't deny it.I really liked the ending, it wasn't at all what you would expect , and is it just me or did he look like a psycho sometimes or what?
But I really liked the message that it sent- don't give up on your dreams and the importance of family.

I remember when the project was first announced that there were rumors about Marilyn Manson playing Willy Wonka, which I thought would have been absolutely kick ass (if you've ever seen the video for Dope Hat you would know why); but alas, Manson chopped off his hair and lost that look and Burton went with Johnny, which was not a bad thing since he is a good actor. Never heard him sing though, so we will have to see.

Previews are out? Damn it I haven't seen one yet! Give me my trailer you bastards!!! *shakes fist at movie company*

When does it come out?

Actually Charlie and the Chocolate Factory WAS suposed to be a kind of dark horor-like story without really being a HORROR story. And Tim Burton isn't making it into a horror movie. He's just making a slightly darker version of the movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory."

Like someone, (I forget who) said, Roald Dahl wrote some actually pretty freaky stuff. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, and Witches were very dark almost horror stories at times.

I think this looks very interesting. I think Johnny is an exceptional actor and he and Tim Burton have done incredible movies together in the past and I see no reason that this movie should be any different.

I actually enjoyed Around the World in 80 Days, I even made a thread here about it We all like different styles and I don't like old movies, I like the modern type ones

I actually want to see this movie, I saw the preview for it and it looks great I like it when they re-make an old movie to a newer version, better technology etc

Unfortunately, just because a movie is more advanced doesn't mean it's better. I refer you once again to Around the World in 80 Days.

I didn't think it looked incredibly dark or anything, or too bubbly... I just thought it looked far too futuristic for my taste... Hmm...

Maybe if Tim Burton could get it into his head that Johnny Depp is ntot he only actor out there this would be more promising...unfortunately, as is, it looks like a half-rate remake that will be mentioned i nthe same sentence as such other failure remakes as Around the World in 80 Days (fantastic original, shitty new one).

From what I can gather, he's trying way too hard to be creepy or wierd or whatever. The original book was written by Roald Dahl, who was both

A) Syupposedly a children's author, and
B) author of some of the sickest books I have ever read (The Witches, anyone?)

The original, with the unbeatable Gene Wilder, did a perfect job of capturing both the childlike humor and the dark, twisted lessons involved in the book. And Gene could sing. But now, it looks...bad.

I never heard about it being a darker version of the original. I jsut hear there were a few changes to it, but nothing major like that. I honestly can't wait. I'm really interested on how they changed it, thought the original will always be one of my favorite movies to watch.

Well, that was the name of the book after all.

I was about to say avatar, that it doesn't look remotely like a horror movie at all. I am mildly intrigued by it, though I will not make judgements until I actually see it. Of course, I love Tim Burton, so it should be good.

On the contrary.

I saw the preview, and I was sickened at how bubbly everything is. I was expecting a very cool dark twist to the old Willy Wonka once was, but this seems even more happy go lucky than the last. I heard there's a newer trailer out that makes it seem better, but I have yet to find it. I stil want to see it, but the first trailer I saw was a definate buzzkill.

And the movie is called "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"
