The concert wasn't going to put an end to poverty. It was to get the top 8 nations leaders to discuss dividing some of their wealth to help rid Africa of poverty.
I have Live-Aid on dvd. I wasn't able to watch Live 8 because I was busy all weekend, i'll definately buy it when it comes out on DVD though. Edit: Did anyone see Muse perform? Were they even broadcasted? |

This could almost wind up in Debate Shrine. I thought musically it was awesome. THe cause made absolutely no sense though. We aren't going to end poverty and it's probably the only thing from keeping our world totally over populated. |

There's just too much going on there for this to put an end to it exactly...and as a comedian I was watching said..."Why doesn't the film crew give them a fucking sandwitch or something?!" So yeah...I'm sure these concerts aren't the only effective things that could be done...just might be some publicity stunt to make the singers look good....but on the flip side, it could also be something to put the world leaders on the spot to get them to do something, even if it's just to save their image like TP said.
Either way, the concerts are already here and done with, so I'm hoping they do something at least |

I haven't really watched any Live 8. Most of the bands don't interest me, and I kinda have my doubts on their cause. There are some good bands in there, as Cairoi mentioned, Pink Floyd, and the cause is noble and is a good thing to try and stop (poverty in Africa), but I wouldn't say keep hopes up. What they're asking for is alot, and it's not likely that playing lots of concerts will end poverty. The World Leaders might just wave this off, or to keep their images stable, send some things to Africa so they can have a meal everyday for a couple months. All in all, I don't think this is going to put an end to the poverty in Africa. Might help a bit, but not likely. |

Had to go to a party.
Watched the whole thing anyway! Paul McCatrney was there, and PINK FLYOD REFORMED FOR THIS! I died. To put it simple, I died. |

Anyone ever hear of that "Live Aid" concert back in '85? It was a concert for hunger and poverty in Africa and from what I hear, did pretty well for the cause...
Today they just had a Live 8 concert in various places around the world for the same cause. This concert was free. It was more to serve as a message they say, and they're asking for over a billion dollars from world leaders to be given to Africa. I don't know too much about what's behind it. This is all information that I've gathered from a 30 second news blurb. One of the concerts was held about 15 minutes away from me, here in Philadelphia. People like Will Smith, Bon Jovi, Alicia Keys and so on were here. I forget all the other singers who were here, but a friend of mine told me that it was pretty good. **shrugs** |
