Free Tasty Kakes!!!1 **bounces around like a little kid** Teehee...that's sweet..."Let them eat cake" **throws the Tasty Kakes to everyone** Caiori, you and I need to make plans tomorrow and go and get Tasty Kakes
As far as the history behind it...It was a very interesting period to learn about, but like Des, I'm glad that I didn't live there back then. Though the French Revolution did lead to Napoleon comming to power, and as cool as a guy he is to learn about...again...talk to the people from the countries Napoleon invaded and conqurerd and they might not look at Bastille Day in the same light as we are here exactly. And the whole "Let them eat cake" thing...well...Marie Antionette really wasn't a bad person. An airhead yes, but not a bad person and she in fact actually loved the French people...she was just such a damned airead. (Note: I may have gotten some information mixed up there...it's been 2 years since I've learned about this. ) |

Wow, that is surprising. Of course, we didn't learn much about German holidays when I took German, so I guess it makes sense. Also since they tend to mention the holidays only if they come up during the year... and most people are not in school in July. |

Bastille day is pretty cool... it's basically France's independance day. What is the most ironic thing about it is that it is also my mother's birthday (she, like most ignorant Americans, doesn't like the French).
I know that you took French Deesse, didn't they ever mention it there? When I took Spanish we learned a bit about the culture and history as well. Come to think of it, they mentioned Bastille Day in my history class as well when we covered the French Revolution. Germany is the country, "German history" would be what you were looking for. But yeah... my "celebration" plans seem to consist of going to class, doing homework, and telling my mom happy birthday. |

That was very well written and I did not know that, we didn't learn a lot about other countries in history, except for American, English and Germany (sp?) history (world wars )
It was very hard back in those days, I'm grateful really that I live in this century. |

Then so I must inform you....
Bastille Day, my friends, is a special day I hold dear. During the French revolution, times were hard for the common French people. They lived in horrible conditions while the royalty lived the high life...But nothing lasts forever. Fervor grew among the people. War broke out. Class struggle became naught but a dream compared to the blood shed. The people of France charged the castle Bastille and took it over, freeing the innocent people inprisoned for getting the royatly's bad side and threw said bad people in it. This was a symbol to show that democracy was the new face of the world, but yet...It showed another clue to the future of mankind. trhe people themselves set up a self-sustaing community, which we call anarchist, to sustain themselves! This is truly the face of mankind underneath the smog of GREED! Whaddya think, I wrote that myself! (It is true) |

I'm sorry Cairoi, but I've never heard of this holiday before I did a google search on Bastille Day and it came up with all these french things, so I'm guessing it's a french holiday |

Thursday, July 14, 2005...
BASTILLE DAY! IT is my favorite holiday because it is when the good anarchy ruled and monarchiac systems showed their downfall! I'm going to the castle in Philly to celebrate! Did you know they throw TASTY KAKES there due to the famous line "Let them eat cake!"? How do you plan to celebrate? |
