TRUE THAT!!!

Especially hair cuts like this guy!:

Douch bag

...What a fag...

He must be "emo."
Whatever the hell that may mean seeing as how the dictionary can't even make up a neutral definition...

SO SCREW 'EM ALL! ANY ONE WHO DRESSES LIKE THAT IS NOT AS COOL AS ME AND MY ORIGINALITY!
Wankers...

Originality is dead...

There has been, and always will be "hipsters."

Calling someone "emo" is almost as naive as calling someone a "poser."

Catagorizing a subculture, then complaining about it's existance is an ignorant contradiction to ones own person.

Figure it out. It will come in due time...

But in the mean time, don't in any way confuse this passage as a defense statement for the "emoXcore" subculture/genre.
I loath whinney brats and bad music. To put the two together entitles me to a vomit session.
Either that, or a circle jerk. Depends on which one comes first.
Haha, "comes."

Wow, I love 3rd grade humor.

~James

P.S.
When you say "emo-kids," I think you refer to "scene-kids," as your description is a little to broad.
If you want a more detailed out-look on the subculture known as the "scene" check this link out.

It points out the cliche aspects of it all; and most of them are true, alas.

As well as a correct, non-biased definition as provided by WIKIPEDIA:
Emo (an abbreviation of emotive hardcore) is a term now broadly used to describe almost any form of guitar-driven alternative rock that expresses emotions beyond traditional punk's limited emotional palette of alienation and rage. The abbreviation comes from the word emotive. Most recently (from 2002 to present) bands with more lyric driven songs have been mistakingly called emo because their lyrics seem to be depressing and focus on hatred, mostly dealing with relationships. Actually, these bands only take on one side of emo, not all of them. 'Emo' is also used to describe fans of this genre, most commonly teenagers. The term itself originated as a way to describe the music of the mid-1980s D.C. scene and associated bands, mainly Rites of Spring and Embrace, as well as bands such as Moss Icon, and Dag Nasty. The term addressed both the way the band connected with its audience, as well as its tendency to deal more with topics of personal and relationship politics than with the standard themes of rock music, although none of the members of the originating bands invented the term itself, nor purposely applied it to themselves. The label was applied by outside critics or journalists and many acts and fans consider the word itself a pejorative. In recent times however, moreso than with most other musical genres, the term "emo" has been subject to social perception above objective guidelines. What bands are or aren't emo is therefore highly subjective and contested amongst those with an interest in the genre. As a result the term emo has two main uses; as a label for the genre outlined above and as a multi-purpose adjective and umbrella term used to describe a large cross-section of music and popular culture.

I, have been a 'goth' for ghode knows how long. Do I dress it? Yes, why? I like baggey pants.

That is from the book of truth.

I have a friend who says basically the exact same thing. One day people just asked him why he dresses the way he does (normal shirts usually, but he usually wears the big black pants, sometimes with chains, etc), and he basically just simply said "Because it's comfortable."

And yeah, I think Vel summed it up pretty well, a "goth" and "emo" are two entirely different entities.

Well, "emo" has been covered fairly well. As for goth... well, true goths are pretty hard to find anymore. Here is the urban dictionary definition of Goth, which I find rather accurate.

1. Goth
Someone who likes the darker side of things. They usually listen to death metal and goth music, such as Dismember and Bauhaus. Marilyn Manson is NOT goth. He's just...weird. Real goths are not depressing and suicidal like the posers you see at Hot Topic. Goths are fun to be around and aren't afraid to laugh at themselves every so often. They don't worship Satan and aren't evil despite what some ignorant people might say. Goths don't all dress alike either. They like to create their own unique style. Goths are also very intelligent and creative. A lot of them are writers and artists. Goths DON'T envy the popular people. They are what they are because it makes them happy. Goths would rather stay who they are and be among the so called "freaks" than be like everyone else and be popular. They understand that there are more important things in life than popularity, and usually succeed in life while the popular ones don't become much of anything.

If someone becomes "goth" because they couldn't get any friends or are depressed and angry all the time, they are most likely a poser.

Will you marry me???? *Holds Ring*

As for being on Topic, that sums it up pretty much. Hot topic has indeed ruined the good name, Goth, for it is now a twisted version of sucicidal wannabees who prefer to be dead then living. Come on now, do us all a favor people. The next time you see a person and they say they are "emo" give them a razor and show them how to use it, do us all a favor, stop your complaining about life and BE HAPPY!

I, have been a 'goth' for ghode knows how long. Do I dress it? Yes, why? I like baggey pants.
1) I hate it when my balls rub together
2) Tight pants are annoying to look at, I dont wanna see some camal hump from a guy wearing tight pants.
I like band shirts, why?
1) Pride in music, I love music, cant get enough of it. I listen 24/7.
Why Black?
1) Its a nuetral color, doesnt stand out that much and I dont always wear black. I like reds, purples and blues as well.

Emo of Today....1 band I only like that is considered Emo: My Chemical Romance.
1) Singer is hot
2) The song Helena reminds me of a freind
3) They arent all into the whiney music thing, good lyrics and a nice sound.
The Hated Part of the Band:
4) Their bass player is the zenith in which I hate all Emo things. He is trully EMO.

Emo is an overused term that has lost all meaning, as the incredible amount of followers have worn the lines between goth, punk, and indie so far down that it all has been watered down into one large confused culture. I don't really dislike or like it. It finally has all become the same. At least where I am.

I concure whole heartedly. All three stereotypes are beginning to merge. And it's becoming trendy. Which is against what the essence of punk/goth/ and indie are.

I'm peachy being unstereotypable.

Now that I think about it, a general "emo" kind of sounds like a mix between and goth and a punk.

I don't really lable goth's. To me, a goth is just someone who happens to dress in that kind of style, but I wouldn't call them a goth, since like I said, most of my friends who dress like a normal "goth" are actually really nice people, and smart, and most of you would probably think elsewise.

It's really hard to explain my stance on a "goth", so yeah.

In short I'd say emo's are mainly people mourning for attention, like it would help them or something.

I like some emo music, but I'm far from an 'emo' kid. Yeah I'm more emotional then more guys, but I don't do it for attention, that's just the way I am. (and showing your emotions or speaking them, can lead to some really hawt secks, but you didn't hear that from me) I don't dress as an emo kid as you guys describe. I don't have a emo haircut. My hair is long and shaggy, but I don't go about dieing it black, and stuff. My clothing usually consist of gym shorts and a tshirt, sometimes a nice polo and some khakis, and the only thing that might resemble emo like clothing are my plaid shorts.

I think that Emo music is as much of a disgrace as your generic Nu-metal band. As it requires no skill at all. Anyway, I won't go in that subject

Fully agreed.

To elaberate on my other post, I basically meant what others have already stated. I've seen a lot of people at school "try" to be a Goth, or Emo. They'll paint their nails black, put eye liner on, and do a bunch of stuff like that. I'm not saying that's bad, but it's not really them. They just seem to do it for the attention.

And people like that, annoy me.

"Goth's" don't really bother me though. It's funny, because most of them are incredibly nice people.

Emo is often used as a synonym for depressed/sad/ or down too.

"What's up with the emo convo?"

"Why do you look so emo?"

"That movie was sooooo emo!"

A little joke for you...that I made up.

Emo kids have the stereotypical skinnyness...

Again, this may be me, but I'm not emo, I don't even know two Emo bands!

And they cut themselves sometimes, which is not good.

Emo came from punk not goth. Thats probablly the main point i have to prove emo is a style of music that came from punk rock so therefore its punk. Basically its jsut another child of the punk genre. Exept this is the child you wanna kick out of the hosue and put up for adoption. Van had a good idea on teh bands Fall out boy however is pop punk *bops van* shame on you.

Most times that I've dealt with the term, "emo," it's been an insult. From what I've gathers they are just people who took the wrong side of goth and turned it into something totally different.

GAAA!!! POSERS MADE ME SO FREAKING ANGRY!!! AHH!!
*turns green, but soon returns to normal*

Most "Goths" are posers, as are "Emo" people.I know of this annoying kid no one likes that much, he's okay, but he always laughs and jokes about suicide (I try to help him), and he listens to emo music. His attidute is completly different from the stupid depressed people. HE scares me.

I also know some Gothic people. None real. All pose. All of them, so I despise.

Would be a nice thing to meet a real Goth in the real world. We have a few here. Anyhoo...

well we have two types of Emo people.

You have your emos who are emotional all the time. They actually do smile.

Then you have your demos who are emotional and depressed all the time. They NEVER smile.

Simple way of looking at it is like this.

Emo = Emotional

Demo = Depressed Emotional

Courtesy of Urban Dictionary...

1. Emo
Genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who dont smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5 ths of the face at an angle.
::sniff sniff:: "The Demise of the Siberian Traintracks of Our Rusty Forgotten Unblemished Love" sounds like it would make a great emo band name. ::cry::

2. Emo
Punk music on estrogen. Often acoustic guitar with soft, high male vocals that dwell exessively on the singer's feelings, especially melancholy remembrances of past relationships/mistakes in life. A form of music that diverged from punk in the '80s, the name "emo" is derived from the emotive style of the lyrics and music. This genre has lately been marketed heavily by the music industry to teenagers with bands such as Dashboard Confessional and Taking Back Sunday, and has seen much commercial and mainstream success. The music has also spawned a subculture which conforms to certain conventions in dress such as tight sweatshirts, tight band T-shirts and horn-rim glasses. Adherents profess to exessively melancholy temperments. Males that adhere to the emo subculture are sometimes confused with metrosexuals; indeed the line between the two is somwhat blurred, though both groups claim to be intouch with their emotional side. The ephemeral and hackneyed nature of emo songwriting suggests that its audience will be restricted largely to teenagers. the genre suffers from a lack of credibility outside the aforementioned demographic group, much like current Nu Metal bands.
girlfriend: C'mon, lets have sex.
boyfriend: I'm too sad to have sex.
girlfriend: I'm sad too; lets have sex and cry.
boyfriend: I'm already crying.

4. emo
An entire subculture of people (usually angsty teens) with a fake personality. The concept of Emo is actually a vicious cycle that never ends, to the utter failing of humanity, and it goes something like this:

1. Girls say they like "sensitive guys" (lie)
2. Guy finds out, so he listens to faggy emo music and dresses like a dork so chicks will see that he is sensitive and not afraid to express himself (lie). He dyes his hair black, wraps himself in a stupid looking scarf, develops an eating disorder, and rants about how "nobody understands".
3. Now an emo guy, he meets Emo chick and they start dating, talking about how their well-off suburban lifestyles are terrible and depressing (lie)
4. Emo guy is just too much of a pussy. His penis is too small, he's too depressed to bathe, and has more mood swings than emo chick, and he doesn't even have a menstrual cycle. Emo chick dumps him, saying "It's not you, it's me." (lie) as she drives off with Wayne, the school jock and captain of the football team.
5. Emo guy goes home and cries, proceeds to write a weak song and strum a single string on his acoustic guitar. Another emo chick sees how he is so in touch with his feelings, and the cycle continues.

This is the sad truth of the emo lifestyle/music, and now that I look at how pathetic it really is, maybe the emos DO have something to cry about!
When she sees how sensitive and emo I have become, she'll definately go out with me!

5. Emo
Like a Goth, only much less dark and much more Harry Potter.
My life sucks, I want to cry.

((3 was a joke about a flightless bird... so I didn't include it.))
