yes, I play Private servers, my question is, do you guys?

I'm currently happy with Aniwow servers, but I'm also playing Underworld. If you play, do tell, and whats your Screen names?

As usual, my name is Kaijin, and I play as Blood elf Rogues on both Aniwow and Underworld.

You know, I completely forgot those existed. You by any chance have the links to the instructions on how to get WoW setup for private servers?

I used to play on WoWGasm but private servers are too laggy its sometimes almost unplayable so I stopped. And to play on a private server you should go to the World of Warcraft folder and go to the Realmlist file and change it to whatever the private server you are joining has it set to.

I like playing on a reliable server with realistic drop rates and tons of people.
Ergo, I like the official servers, and I have no qualms with paying to play.

Thor, if you like quality, you'd love Aniwow's Konoha server. It's blizzard like, but with very minimal exp/drop boots. Lots (5000+) people on that server, and rather intertaining.

Anyway, to set up a Private Server, is really simple. Right now you ened WoW 2.30. Hit up google and look up WoW Private Servers, and just pick one. From there, Register your account (not your retail wow, but make a new account) on the website, and (typically) it will give you a server link. Copy that Link.

With the link copied, go to your WoW folder, and open up a file called realmlist.wtf with notepad. Then, in the "Set Realm" line, put in the server link. Save, Close, Play.

I seem to recall that you used to have to reinstall WoW and patch it to a certain point, then do a ton of shit and whatnot to ghetto rig it to work.

Basicially configuring system.ini into connecting into a different IP. However there are some freeware installers that do all that BS for you.

Edit- Oh wow, I diddnt know Blizzard uses WTF files too. I only thought ID does things like that. Interesting

99% of the Private Servers use Up-To-Date patches so you don't have to deal with the bullshit of downgrading and uninstalling. My friend plays retail wow, and the private servers. Whatever he feels like playing.

And it takes two seconds to copy and paste the IP address you want to play with accordingly. While granted there are IP launching programs, but I never did trust them.

I'll probably join you once I get the internet fixed on the Mac install of my computer, since I don't feel like re-installing and patching it on Windows.

Basic logic pretty much. Private WoW servers are also accustomed with their own patches correct?

They use Blizzard offical patches. Any editing they do in game goes directly into the already installed patch (howerever that works)

Hahah, I'm evil. Any retail WOW players will crap themselves at the damage I'm about to speak of:

I'm walking to a custom area called Seven Deadly Sins (crazy leveling place) with my level 85 Mage. 50,000 HP, and in two seconds, a PK Paladin (lv 75) jumps through me, and cuts me down.

Well, I run after her and blare her with a small spell that's an instant cast (Ice Lance) doing about 1,250 damage. She turns around, and cuts me down repeatedly, and sits ontop of my ressurecting spot. Known as Camping, which is illegal in this server (underworld.) I would have hit her with other spells like Frost Bolt, but my mage would do over 10,000 damage, and in the server, theres a damage cap of 10k. If you break it, the spell does nothing (which will get fixed soon) so I'm stuck with weak ass spells like Arcane Explosion (which does around 6k damage)

I tell her to stop camping me. She dosnt listen.

I then proceed to jump on my lv 85 Rogue.

I SLAUGHTER HER 7 times in a row, she couldn't touch me. She's a paladin with 60,000 HP, and it litturally takes me 2 seconds to kill her. (I love rogues)

Jade: "I'm reporting you for camping a low level" (she's lv 75)
Me: "Go ahead." I then submit my own report.
Jade: "Your reported" I then kill her again to proove my point, and yell:
Me: "All who listen, Jade had camped my Mage, and continued to do so with warnings to stop. She didnt listen. If any GM's are listening (and they where) Message me now with your problem of my seeking revenge"

After a moment of silence, I killed her again, and with a simple "And so you know, the GM's dont care that I just humiliated a camper" I log out ^^;

I was a GM for some Brazillian Private server. Lets just say I wasnt wearing shit and I can solo any boss you throw at me and slay them in one hit.

Hell, my Thorns, which was a modified Shaman skill, had a return hit percentage so high, it diddnt fit the screen. So guess what happens when a boss hits me once? yup.

2 months later, I was bored, and quit. Oh the memories of GM PVPing.

Oh yeah, and there does Exist an Admin Island. Nothing there though, google it for pics of it.

Edit- And the reason why I asked about custom patches earlier in my post was because while I was at Cast Connections at Disney, as well as my Office Job, all of my co-workers and I were GM's because of the connections we got from the Brazilians who worked with us, in fact, they were relatives of the people who owned the server, so I dont know a whole lot about customizing patches, but I do know more than 99% of the people here about system.ini being your best friend when it comes to online gaming. Especially on custom servers.

So if you guys ever go into any MMO custom server online. The System.ini file is your fucking friend, and your gateway to abuse your privileges. Think about it, and have fun.

Edit2- Thought I might show you an example for a mod im making.

//No longer used.
//$QuestHost = ""Voidname=admin2, admin3, admin4"";

//Amout of exp a player earns for winning a round.
$rewardExpPerRound = 1000;

//Amount of exp for overall winner.
$rewardExpForWinner = 5000;

//In seconds, how often do you want a doorCheck() to run.
$DoorCheckInterval = 10;

//Self explanitory
$AnnounceRulesDuringSetup = true;

Think about that code for a minute and tweak around with it. Im pretty sure you know what it does. Hopefully.
