Genre: Mecha, drama. >Big post go!<
Started watching Bokurano (meaning "Ours" ) after finishing Lagann. After being intrigued by what seemed like an insane premise, Bokurano hasn't disappointed yet. It's really emotional and well-done. It's pretty sad. I have a feeling it could be one of my most favorites. It's technically a mecha, but from the (little) I've seen so far don't expect any super crazy action like you see in Gundam, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, or even Full Metal Panic! etc. Although there is plenty of destruction caused by the mechs, civilian casualties averaging in the thousands. It's about 15 middle school kids (though one is in Grade 4) that meet a mysterious scientist guy who offers them to test out his new 'game'. They sign a contract, except for the little girl, which they later find out they cannot get out of. What happens is they must take turns piloting a monstrous 500m-tall robot that they have named Zearth, and fight a different enemy each time. The rules of the 'game' are: -You have 48 hours to defeat the enemy robot. If you are defeated, or cannot defeat it in said time, the Earth and all of it's inhabitants are annihilated. -The next pilot is seemingly chosen at random. -After you have defeated the enemy, thus saving the Earth for another couple days, you die. The robot needs life force to live, so your life is taken after the battle. There are a couple more I'm probably forgetting, but yeah, you can see how this will cause problems. Especially since these kids are in friggin' middle school. I highly suggest you check it out. I've heard this is another case of the "manga being better", but it's still good. I may read the manga later to compare. Also, it has possibly the best OP ever. Not just like, a good song kind of deal. It's a fine song, but the whole thing just fits so perfectly, once you start watching it the OP captures the feeling just right. xP It's an eerie atmosphere. The rest of the music is quite good too, very melancholic. |

This looks and sounds pretty awesome, I could definitely use another sci-fi mecha series. Sounds a bit like Code Geass, the mech's are "there" but not the main focus and that's good I'd say.
I'll definitely keep an eye on this. |

I've just finished Ep. 14, it's staying good so far. I've compared some manga to the anime. The Kako & Chizu part of the series (you'll know when you watch it ) is 100x more harsher in the manga. I'll only describe how once somebody watches it so they can understand. Anyway, despite this, in the anime, they're episodes remain as some of the best episodes in the series. |
