Rumor's are flying around my school right now of Advent Children being made into a game, instead of the FF7 being remade. I have no info on it, but I thought I'd post this question if anyone has heard anything:
Anything anyone knows about? |

Many would rather see the original be remade, but why? We've all played it, we all know the ending, none of us are struck when Aerith dies... I couldn't see any justification in making a sequel to the original one unless they do to it what Konami did to MGS: The Twin Snakes.
Personally, I think Squenix should stop what they're doing and make a Vagrant Story 2. |

I'd like a new Chrono game, to be honest. | |||

NO! No no no no no. This'd better stay a rumor, because Advent Children isn't game material.
Of course, if they someone pull it off like they did with Crisis Core, who knows. Then again, Crisis Core had quite a bit to work with and freedom too. |

Originally posted by Cairoi I'm going to be honest, I've been pretty set on not wanting a new Chrono game for awhile now actually. Why? Most of SE's franchises have taken a great dip in quality over the years. The worst is probably the Mana series, compared to the first two on the SNES that series was really horribly handled. Final Fantasy hasn't been up to par with the old ones since FFIX I'd say... and all these spinoffs and sequels just give me a headache, I honestly think I'd hate it if they went nuts with the Chrono-verse like that. I dunno, maybe a weird way to look at it but it's kind of like, just let those two games keep their glory for the years to come. No remakes or anything, just let them be! |

Xeo: FFIX was pretty dandy. It was the last one on the PS *Sniff*
But those peeps are just crazy Kaijin. Are you sure you don't go to school at an asylum? (Last edited by Seijika on 09-11-09 04:37 AM) |

Well, the Chrono series is made by a specific team. I remember hearing that they wouldn't make another game without the "Dream Team." If they did it, I'd be crazed. If not, I'd probably stand with you on that.

Didn't they make Advent Children into a movie because FFVII wasn't good movie material?
Personally, I think that a remake of FFVII is a bad idea. Instead, they need a rerelease. Right now, FFVII on the PC costs over $200 to get new, which is really not a nice price. http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-VII-Pc/dp/B00000DMAA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1252723871&sr=1-1 Besides that, it also takes a ton of work to get it to work properly. I had to apply several annoying patches which were very difficult to find. Hardly good for XP So, if they perhaps rereleased it on PC for a lower price and fixed a few of the translation errors they had, it would be perfect. Oh yeah, and making that horribly annoying snow place later on in the game less annoying would be awesome too. |

Advent Children was always planned as a sequel. I don't know if FFVII would really qualify as "movie material", but it'd be pretty hard to squeeze 60 some hours of gameplay into 2 hours or whatever, lol.
Also, they did release FFVII again on the Playstation Network. Which is stupid, because that just means my physical copy is worth less now! Black label edition and all ... bah! Anyways I think it's pretty weird FFVII and VIII got PC releases in the first place. All I know is that Eidos ported them and they must be really rare now or something. |

I'm really hoping that Final Fantasy will just die the death it seriously needs.
Although I would much rather see Advent Children made into a game than an FF7 remake, and not just because FF7, out of the entire FF series, was my least favourite, and I'm not a fan of it to begin with. Out of the 3D ones, it had the worst graphics, animation and special effects, the worst character design, the worst battle system and the most stupid weapons I've ever heard of. And FF8 had a 'Gunblade' which makes nearly as much non-sense as Cloud's fucker of a sword made. At least the Gunblade was concievably wieldable. The second reason is, only fans will buy a remake of a game. In FF7's case, I doubt it will be capable of receiving the upgrade MGS got with Twin Snakes, purely because the fans would not want to have their battle systems, storylines, set pieces etc. changed from the original. So catering to them, FF7 remake would be utterly pointless. And then there's the fact that nearly all games based on films are horrible, and mediocre at best, the problem being that the plot of the film gets stretched out to fill the 10+ hours a game should be, instead of receiving EXTRA plot to fill the time that a two hour movie simply can't hold up to. It may just be that personally I couldn't give a shit what Squaresoft is doing with their games and that recently I've been finding all their games more and more insipid but whether they make Advent Children a game or remake FF7 will likely have no influence on gaming as an industry. All it will do is make fanboys squeal in delight and anti-fanboys rage in disgust across every gaming forum on the face of the internet, much like what already happens with Lost, Bleach, Halo, Half Life, Big Brother, pop music, and anything else unfortunate enough to have received the same amount of publicity as God. |

All I can really agree on is that I don't think FFVII deserves any of the treatment it's gotten over the last few years. Just about any other big FF since IV had a richer world and a better "universe" they could've extended, though either way I don't want sequels to FF games in general. To me, starting with Advent Children, all the sequels and spinoffs FFVII has gotten has basically lowered my liking for the game, especially Advent Children, it did nothing extra with the characters and story and just made things worse.
If you want to blame someone, blame Tetsuya Nomura and well I guess Square in general for giving so much power to an ARTIST. He (tried) to direct Advent Children and has since then somehow had a lot of power over SE releases. He just doesn't have the multi-talent. And well just to be even more picky, his art is absolutely nothing compared to Amano's, not to mention Nomura has easily come up with some of the most effeminate male leads we've ever seen. I think you underestimate the fanbase though, I'm pretty sure a remake of FFVII would more than likely be a multi-million seller, whether you or anyone else likes it or not, lol. |

And despite my harsh remarks, I'd buy a remake.
Fun game (oddly the one FF I've finished several times), cool atmosphere at times (though mainly in Midgar, wish more of the game took place there). But it's certainly not my RPG love or anything and I seem to hate the characters more everytime I play it... |
