The first thing Daniel felt as he awoke from a very deep sleep was a cool breeze fluttering gently over him. It was a strange sensation, far unlike any he had felt since moving to the city. It had the briskness of seaside wind, the pureness of a sky far from the civilized world. In fact, it was this very strangeness that compelled him to open his eyes.
As he rose, Daniel could see things had changed. He was not home. Instead of his apartment, he was floating on a piece of driftwood in a vast expanse of clear ocean, drifting slowly towards an island. He was wearing office clothes, though they were torn and frayed, though he felt no cuts or bruises on his body. While holding his balance on the driftwood, he tried hard to recall how he had gotten here. There was only glimpses. A woman screaming. A wall shattering. Black clouds. And finally, a momentous deep rumble, as though there was a thunderclap that roared across the universe.
Suddenly, he felt his feet drag on a bed of sand. Daniel looked down and saw the ground beneath the water. With a force of will, he raised his feet and forced himself to stand, with some difficulty. His feet firmly beneath him, now moving one after the other, he turned his sights back to the island before him. It was a strange island, defined by its great and massive forest. In the center of the forest, a mighty tree rose up like a mountain, marked by a halo of birds. The sight frightened Daniel, but with his driftwood, he had nowhere else to go.
When his feet finally reached dry sand, Daniel felt the sensation of eyes boring down upon him. When his eyes made over the island once more, he heard a human voice far to the left of him, muffled by distance. He walked over slowly, as though in a trance, until he found himself by a small group of people. They were ordinary people, like himself, tattered and cast about by their arrival here. They stared at him with dread and relief.
"Uhh...hello," Daniel said meekly. One of the others, an old woman, rose slowly and extended his hand.
"Welcome. Name's Victoria. Grab a seat, friend," the old man replied. Daniel did so, nodding.
"Name's Daniel..." Daniel started. He struggled for a moment, before babbling, "Wow, I'm sorry, this is embarrassing."
The old woman looked at him curiously, adjusting her thin glasses. "What's so embarassing?"
"This is going to sound ridiculous, but I can't remember my last name," Daniel said. He ran his hand through his blond hair, looking down upon the sand.
"Ahh. Well, no worries about that," Victoria answered. "None of us can. That's just about all we know for sure right now."
Daniel looked up at him, bewildered. He looked around at the group of people, who shared the grim look of defeat that marked the old man's eyes. Daniel closed his eyes and covered his face for a moment, rubbing furiously. This was beyond him.
"What happened?" Daniel asked quietly.
Victoria coughed, and spoke at large to the group. "I think it's best if everyone went around and told us a bit about yourselves. Maybe if we can find a common link, we can figure out what happened. Who wants to go first?"

OOC: This is a very experimental RP I'm trying out here. There are no character sheets, but you must have fully developed characters. Not times and places, but memories, personality, you know. When your character answer's Victor's question, keep in mind you are playing a complete, full person. Also, for fun, don't play yourselves. We should play unique characters for this unique RP. Trust me, the better characters you play, the more you'll get out of this. I'm very excited to see how it all turns out.

A teenage boy looked up as the newcomer exchanged words with Victoria, his green eyes flashing in the light. He had hoped that this man bore news, or some memory, of what had happened.

Chris looked back down at the sand realizing this man, 'Daniel' he called himself, didn't know anything different. The sand was the only thing that made sense right now. Not the unexplainable hole in his blue shirt over his chest, nor the one in the back. Not why his left arm had no feeling. Not why his sandy hair was shorter on the left side of his head. Not why everyone knew nothing. Nothing.

The sand, however, was the same. And the tree in the heart of the forest. Chris looked up once more to stare towards the large tree, a circle of birds flying endlessly around.

Birds...

Chris's thoughts were interrupted by a cough. "I think it's best if everyone went around and told us a bit about yourselves. Maybe if we can find a common link, we can figure out what happened. Who wants to go first?" Victoria asked.

The woman seemed intelligent, but Chris wasn't one to speak first. He looked around the circle expectantly, waiting for another to start the conversation.

EDIT: For some reason, all of my post layouts change when I post again with my new layout. So I'm editing them so they are readable. Sorry.

"God just what we need," Frankie groaned. "Another person without a memory, and another mouth to feed." Frankie's own stomach growled. He was starting to get light headed, and he guessed that the rest of the troop was getting the same feelings. He looked down at his silk shirt. Torn and dirty, he felt disgusting. "Does anyone else think we should just leave him?" Frankie raised his eyebrow and turned his gaze on the rest of the group.

Victoria furrowed her eyebrows at the unkind man who just voiced his opinion. "Watch your mouth. We're all in this predicament together, and we will treat each other with the respect that every human being deserves."

She turned back to the group. "Are you sure there's no one who'd like to share first? Come now, this isn't a school room. We need to know each other if we want any sense of normalcy."

Ace washed onto the beach, barely conscious. His head was swimming, he couldn't make up how he got here. He felt like his life had flashed before his eyes, great memories, and awful ones, fresh in his memory. He thought of his girlfriend, how she used to make him so mad, but he loved her dearly. He thought of the last fight they had, he was going away again, off to the war, he was the best pilot the Air Force had, they needed him to continue his work, he couldn't just let the US lose the war. She thought it was dangerous, stupid, he'd get himself killed if he went back. Bullshit.

He began to try and observe his surrounding, he was on a beach, one he didn't recognize, there were others another. One woman asked people to introduce themselves. She mentioned something about names. A name defines a man, he mused, his name was...Ace? That's not right, his name was something else, Ace was his nickname in the military. People called him Ace because he could fly a plane like no other. No matter, what was a name anyway?

His green eyes scanned the beach, and his arms patted himself, dusting sand off. But something wasn't quite right, his flight suit was singed along the edges. That part didn't make sense, he didn't remember a crash, didn't remember burning his suit in any way. Either way, he was lost, probably about to be captured by hostiles.

"I am called Ace, it may not be my birth name, but it's as close as we're gonna get now, don't seem to remember my real name. I fly jets in the war, we might be in some sort of area with hostiles, it's important for us to get out of here."

Ace looked around at the confused people, hoping to urgently get somewhere safe, he feared for these peoples lives, they might have no military background, which makes him the best choice for a combat situation.

Ooc-- sorry for any punctuation fails of inaccuracies, I'm totally posting/writing this on my phone.

The pause was cut short by a scraping sound. Just outside of the circle sat a musclebound African man. He held a jagged stone in one hand, and was dragging it across a narrow branch, stripping flecks of wood away. He wore no shirt, revealing his tattoo-riddled form, with styles ranging from Japanese art and Chinese lettering, to block letters and western art. He sat in silence, as he had since he'd arrived, sharpening his stick.

"Why do we have the right?" Chris suddenly spoke up at Frankie's words. This guy irritated him already. He stood up in a rush, irritation from the endless amounts of questions finally getting to him. "Do you know what happened? The only people who have spoken with sense are Victoria and this guy..Ace! I say we listen to him. He has a decent head on his shoulders."

I'm sick of this place already.

"As for my name, it's Chris."

Frankie looked at the small boy before him, he had about three inches above the teenager.

"Well scamp, the big boys and girls just woke up barely able to remember their names. We have big man over there sharpening his damn stick, and I'm guessing some of us had better things to do, not that we'd even remember. Not to mention I'm fucking starving!" As if on cue, Frankie's stomach let out a long growl, he then turned and sat down on a small stone.

OOC: ...Vince, there is no small boy.

BIC: Victoria paid no mind to Frankie's rants. She'd met a lot of men like him: Talkative, negative bastards who found fault with everything but their own (often flawed) ideas. They weren't born like that, they were made. But she didn't have the time to find out just what that was.

Meanwhile, the frightened young man had introduced himself, as well as a young man from the military.

"Dear, I appreciate the earnesty, but I don't believe we're under threat from any army. However, maybe searching for a better place to camp is a good idea. How about this, then? I'll stay here with a few others and wait in case others will wash ashore. Ace, why don't you, Chris, and Mr. Hungry there look for food and shelter?"

(OOC: K, so we CAN'T play ourselves? XD Fun. Also, trying to get my scanner working at the same time, so this post is bit rushed. My appologies in advance if I am confusing, or just plain dumb about this.)

"Wait."

From a shaded spot in the circle, just under the oddly lush green palm tree came a tiny voice. It was easy for small and demure Madelene to hide furthest away from being the center of attention. Her usually soft and fine blonde hair was now frayed, the ends split, and tangled tufts forming a mane about her round face. Bruises formed about her cheekbones, chin, and who knows where else they may be, in smoky blotches as they blended with the scrapes and dirt that came with her...fall? She could remember just as much as the others.

Under the rubble that was once her bright complexion and big blue eyes, her pink lips pursed together as though she wanted to say more. She didn't remember much before feeling her limp body being roughly drug across the sand. Her second memory was that of coughing up some sort of salty liquid, and some sort of green, slimy substance. It was after those events that her mind put together this beach, followed by the realization that the abrupt, rough treatment of her unconscious self was an effort to save her from drowning along the coast. Once she was ashore, seeing the gawking of more people she was unfamiliar with, Madelene's first instinct was to run a frantic wardrobe check, especially upon viewing the tattered clothes of the others. Modesty did always come first for Madelene, she had enough of her wits about her by that point to maintain that trait of her's. To her pleasure, despite the torn, tattered and soaked nature of her red pajama pants and black tank top, nothing that would truly mortify her was to be seen. Her undergarments were luckily intact, and the only disappointing part of it all was that she had no shoes.

Madeline was tiny yet built, being the perfect ballerina she was pressured to be, and her skin easily tanned. But she was quiet, shy, and in the very least, openly frightened.

She pointed to the man with the tattoos, sharpening what appeared to her from across the circle to be some sort of blade. "Um..." She paused, the thought of making any sound, doing anything to be noticed petrifying her to her core, and took in a deep breath. "As I'm sure food and shelter is of great importance..." She cleared her throat with a sound that would hardly be audiable to anyone, just like everything she did. Quietly. "But I think that gentleman over there may have the right idea." She blushed. She did not care to single out another just as much as being singled out herself terrified her. "We need to be able to defend ourselves. Otherwise, food and shelter is meaningless..."

And with another deep breath, Madelene leaned back on the rock in which she was perched, curling up her legs so her chin could rest on her knees, wishing she could be under her current perch, not on top of it.

ooc: Heh.

Chris listened to the girl after Victoria had finished speaking. She was shy, but got her point across just fine. Shelter and food were important, but not if faced with danger. Anything could be in the jungle.

Smiling inwardly, Chris looked down at his hands. He was more prepared than any of the others could guess. While his mother was busy with work and his sister, she had enrolled him into martial arts several years ago. For a large span of his life, martial arts was all Chris knew. And now he was stranded on an island.

"I think she's right," he said after a small pause. Chris looked up at the girl and offered a polite smile before looking back to the group, mainly Victoria. "We have no idea what's in the jungle. I'm not up to fighting any wild animals or savages without some sort of protection."

With that, Chris walked over to the edge of the trees to search for a dried out branch, long enough to suit his height and style. As he walked back to the small circle of people, he tossed another to the feet of the shy girl.

"What's your name?" he asked nicely, trying to ease the fear for her.

Frankie rolled his eyes and moved downward to the large man sharpening his spear. He realized his shoes were gone too, Damn it he thought. "Kids huh?" he said to the man next to him. "So...where can a guy find a nice stick like that?"

"Madelene." She says quietly, her eyes barely making contact with the boy. It was only when she reached down to investigate the item thrown her way did she look up at him. A meek smile was offered at best, along with a nod, grateful for some quick agreeance.

(OOC: Watch it Astronaut. I did not divulge any sort of age in my last post's description. Teehee.)

She looked over at the one named Frankie and frowns. However, she did tilt her head questioningly, awaiting the answer of the strange man beside Frankie.

"Great..." Wright said to herself as she walked across the beach sand. "Just great..." She was hoping she could get an explanation as to why she was here. She lived a good life and she felt she had nothing wrong... "Well... Time to make the best of this." She blinked when she looked up at the group. The skinny one of the rock looked to Wright like she was going to fall out due to heat sickness. Wright took off one of her shoes and searched herself for her knife. She always wore one, that was a trade rule to army wives and army brats all over the nations. Found it. She cut some brush shaped in fans. With the shoe that was removed, she pulled her shoe strings out. She began cutting the string and tieing the fanned plants together. After she was done, she Melissa walked up to the small lady and held the fan over her. "You okay?" Wright looked forward. She wore a pair of glasses. She was wearing what looked like a pair of ripped up ACUs. Her hair was in a short pixie cut. "People call me Specialist Wright." She looked at Madelene. "Do you need water? It might be a while. I don't have my assault pack."

A man dressed in black suit pants and a black button down shirt approached the group. Stubble upon his face, short dark hair graying, he looked as confused as the rest of them, but something about the way he carried himself appeared to show confidence, even in the face of the unknown. A white collar broke the drabness of his outfit, his almost gray blue eyes examined the group before him.

"Hi there, Father Donahue from Our Lady of Salvation, pleased to meet you all."

He smiled gently, but something darker was hidden behind his smile, fear.

(OOC: **UBER giggles** You were a priest when we first met too!!! )

Madelene looked up at Wright and smiled, in her usual meek way. "Thank you very much." she replied "But I'm alright. I'm just confused I guess." She took a look around at everyone else "Well, we all have that in common at least." She added.

However, her gaze moved over to the old woman, Victoria. She wanted to ask her some questions, such as how she was so calm. She DID seem to be there before everyone. At least settled in before them. But what to call her, Madelene wondered. She never did feel right calling those her senior simply by their first name. Despite being 20 years old, the disrespect in it seethed on out and quite frankly, disgusted her.

But before she could get a chance to do or say anything, another member joined the crowd.

A priest!! she thought to herself, releif overpowering her. Totally oblivious to the fear in his demeanor, her face lit up the moment the man introduced himself. Being born and raised by Catholics, as far as her cloudy memory can muster, she was taught to trust in the clergy. And being the good Catholic girl she thought she remembered herself to be, she had no reason to distrust them.

Wright looked over at the priest. Instinctively her face went to a serious look. She could hear and explosion and then a scream. Wright shook her head. Something just happened in her mind and she had no clue what it was. She knew one thing though... That priest triggered it. She still moved a bit further away from the priest.

"Excuse me, dear," Victoria said to Daniel, "Can you help me up? I've gotten too comfortable, and these old legs can't do as much as they used to." Daniel snapped out of his contemplations and nodded, lifting her up from her seat on the log. She eyed the group, new and (slightly more) familiar, young and old.

"Father is the final one of us. There will be no more to wait for."

Daniel looked at Victoria with fear. As she spoke, her voice took on a different tone; it was filled with the surety of an edict. Daniel questioned how she had spoken it, but not what she had said. His mind simply accepted it, as though it were a law of the universe.

After this strange statement, Victoria returned to normal, and smiled slightly.

"Let's not spend any more time here than we need to."

"And where exactly are we going, then? Do you expect us to walk through the jungle?" answered Chris. The young man had stood up, his stave hanging loosely by his side.

The teenager waited for a response from someone in the group. Surely they weren't going to waste time walking around the jungle when help might pass by.
