A Skinhead opened fire at a Sikh Temple in a Milwaukee suburb this morning, killing six and shooting many others (included a first responder) before police took him down. They have classified this as an act of Domestic Terrorism.

Sikhs, for those that don't know, are practitioners of a peaceful religion that was founded in India over 500 years ago. They often get mistaken for Muslims because they have beards and turbans.

Seriously though, what the fuck is wrong with this country? Not only is shit like this becoming more common, but NO ONE is talking about it. If I didn't check the news feed on my phone, I would have never known about it. Perhaps because the cops and FBI are doing what they should do and NOT releasing the identity of the killer.

I heard about this on FB the other day as well. Completely pathetic... and as you said it's definitely annoying when the news never covers the real stuff like this. I don't get it.

Also not sure if this was brought up in the other thread, firearm death rate by country. Utterly disturbing that we are extremely high on the list.

My first thought when Brandon told me a Sikh temple had been shot up was that it must have been some lunatic who mistook them for Muslim (who should also never be attacked either!).

What a fucking shame all around.

My question is why is this getting tagged as an act of terrorism and the Aurora kid isn't?

It's true that crime rate is lower here, but it's not all that good, considering the current government is basically trying to make more things become criminal offenses (i.e: recently, they introduced a law that could give the same amount of prison time for the possession of drugs than sex offenders would get).

Aside from that, you have Quebec (where I live), a place where skin color doesn't matter as much a whether you speak French or not.

I want to visit Quebec... they wouldn't hate me too much for not speaking French if I did my best would they? It made more sense to take Spanish in high school, after all (you know, since Mexico is like right there)

But yeah, I have seen stuff in the papers about this but no major media circus. I'm just hoping that it's because they handled it right and not because the victims were minorities.

Apparently he went on this rant about Obama being a nazi while performing in Singapore.

"Back in my country, my president is trying to pass a gun ban," Mustaine said at a concert in Singapore last week. "So he's staging all of these murders, like the Fast and Furious thing down at the border and Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there. And now the beautiful people at the Sikh temple."
